Rob at Carlsbad Jewelers is a dishonest jeweler. He outright lied to me about the type of stone he used in a custom ring I commissioned. In February 2023 I went to Carlsbad Jeweler and requested a pink tourmaline ring to commemorate the recent birth of my first child in October. Pink Tourmaline and Opal are the birthstones for October. Rob confidently showed me settings to choose from. I chose my favorite setting and he told me he would add a 1.25 carat pink birthstone and I would be very happy. I confirmed again I wanted pink tourmaline and I heard him say under his breath as we were leaving "yes, pink zircon". I left confused about what stone we were actually getting. I thoroughly researched pink Zircon, and although not the birthstone for October (which was the whole point of the ring), I thought maybe Zircon was a more beautiful gemstone and although it wasn't what I had asked for, it was still a natural and rare gemstone. For some reason I believed I could trust the jeweler as a professional. After the date passed when the ring was supposed to be finished I called Rob to ask about the status of my pink tourmaline ring. He said he had found the stone the night before and would ship it shortly. He said again, "it's pink birthstone, you will love it". He texted me a video of the ring and it was beautiful. We began texting, and again I questioned him about the type of stone. I asked him if it was pink zircon. He said yes. I asked him if it is a natural stone. He said yes, it's a real zircon, which is zircon. I knew from my research that there is no synthetic version of zircon. So I tried to trust that he wouldn't outright lie about the stone, especially in written text. But I still couldn't shake the feeling so I told him I just wanted to make sure it wasn't cubic zirconia. At which point he never wrote back. The ring arrived and while beautiful, the setting was done very poorly. Two prongs were sharp and jagged and ripped every shirt, jacket, and blanket I touched. This was the final straw when I began to question everything about the authenticity of the ring and I knew I needed to bring it to another jeweler. My local jeweler instantly recognized it as cubic zirconia, which is a cheap synthetic stone that he compared to glass. He even gave me a loupe and showed me how to check for double refraction inside the stone which is a characteristic of real zircon. I saw that indeed there was no double refraction. He also said that the CZ was really scratched and looked like it had been quickly and haphazardly set onto the ring likely because the jeweler knew the stone was worthless so he didn't care. Luckily this second jeweler did say that the gold and diamonds were real, because by that point I questioned everything about the ring. The new jeweler finally ordered me that pink tourmaline stone that I wanted from the very beginning. I do not understand why Rob refused to give me the stone I asked for. In summary, I asked for pink tourmaline, I was told it was real zircon, and then I found out it was actually cubic zirconia. Thank goodness I trusted my gut and had the ring inspected by another jeweler. One thing I would like to note, although the stone was not what I requested or what I was told it was, Rob did not charge me a higher rate than what the ring was worth. I thought I paid $700 for the setting and a real stone. In actuality, I paid $700 just for the setting, which my jeweler said was about the right cost. My pink tourmaline stone was an additional $700. I have debated whether or not to post this review for months. At this point I finally feel ready to post. After having the ring for just a few weeks, a diamond fell out of the setting. I got it fixed by my local jeweler. Now another diamond has fallen out and I'm at a point where I hate everything about this ring. I will be buying another ring from a different jeweler and selling this one, I'm sure at a very small fraction of the...

Read moreIt was meant to be to find this gem of a jeweler (haha)! My hubby proposed to me 25 years prior on Valentines Day and as a gift he wanted to upgrade my ring. After lunch we planned to go to another local jeweler but they were closed on Valentines (what jewelry store is closed on Valentines?). Lucky for us, we stumbled across Carlsbad Jewelry and Rob helped design the perfect upgrade. (I see that it's featured in the thumbnail photo) He really took his time asking me what I was looking for. I told him my original ring had sentimental value and that I wanted to consolidate my engagement and wedding band into one ring. I also really wanted it to represent the classic style of my original ring but a bit more modern and also two-toned. Voila, he nailed it! I get so many compliments. We kept all my original diamonds for the creation and I even had one left over that we made a necklace with. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and the customer service we received from Rob was superb. I would refer him in a heart beat and plan to use his services in the...
