They have a wide selection of vinyls and the staff is really helpful, but do your research before coming here.
I bought 7 vinyls from this place, 6 out of the 7 of them were great, the only one that wasn't was a limited edition color vinyl for Cherry Bomb by Tyler the Creator (one of my my favorite albums from Tyler). The person working the counter confirmed that I would be buying all these records as BRAND NEW but when I got home to play it about 3 out of the 4 sides were constantly skipping. I went back to Spins to get a replacement as I thought it was just a bad LP which can happen and I understand that, so they gave me another "new" copy of the same color vinyl for Cherry Bomb. Once I play the second copy, it's skipping worse than the first one they gave me.
I went to 2 other record stores in San Diego and both confirmed that what I was sold was a bootleg. The easiest way you can tell is to check if the music label is printed on the sleeve or the vinyl itself. My copy of cherry bomb didn't have any information about the label, and instead had "promotional copy only, not for resale. Support the artist" on the inner vinyl for all 4 sides.
I'm probably not going to come back here, even though majority of what I bought was good. The fact that they are selling resealed bootlegs as "new", specifically limited edition copies of hard to find albums, is unacceptable to me. Once again, do your research before coming here and check to make sure the music label for the artist is printed somewhere on the...
Read moreAccessibility: there is a ramp to get up to the store but once you are there, it is not wheelchair accessible Inside at all. The store isles are so thin I barely fit through walking. I had to pass by another person at one point and my body literally touched theirs because we could not fit through without touching. No way a wheelchair would make it through here. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user so I know. It is also very loud inside with the music turned up high, so if you need a more quiet environment, bring ear plugs.
Masks: some of the employees wear masks and some don't. Most guests now are not wearing masks, but I have seen some wear them (as of 4-10-22).
Experience: one of the records I bought here skips on the two record players I have so I called the store and let them know. A really nice woman answered and told me I can come return it for store credit or they can order me a new one! Wow, fantastic service! This is what makes a record store great. When I came in to talk with them about this record, a woman named Sara was incredibly helpful and kind. Thanks so much! I really appreciate this. I will definitely be back to support a business that is nice to...
Read moreFantastic old school record store. Be prepared to gawk at musical treasures from floor to ceiling and your ears will titillate from the most likely unfamiliar but soothing sounds emanating throughout the store. Carlsbad Village has changed a lot from the time I was in high school (nearly 20 years ago) but this store has kept true to what makes it great. A huge selection of vinyl, cassette tapes, music VHS & DVD's (both official and bootlegs), band shirts, stickers, posters, vinyl box sets, CD's, and most importantly, one of the best record store staff you will encounter. Its not a huge space like Amoeba or Rasputin, but honestly, that is what makes this place all the more special. I have never been disappointed in over the 25 years of visiting this shop. The owner is super cool. When I have shopped here with my friend, who is wheelchair bound and has cerebral palsy, the owner does not flinch and offers to help with anything we may need while being very respectful. With that being said, the aisles are a little tight but can accommodate a single regular wheelchair. Just be prepared to back up slowly and definitely have someone around to help guide you...
