Charleston Farmers Market — Local services in Charleston

The farmers market is FABULOUS, but this review is for a specific vendor, Kate Rothra Fleming and her glass jewelry. My mom and I were intrigued by her jewelry and being two grown adults with money able to pay for everything we want to touch, picked up her pieces to get a better look at something we wanted to purchase. My mom, a grown woman, was scolded by Kate to use two hands. I would understand this domineering dialogue directed at a child, but as a grown adult we should be considered capable of carefully picking something up with one hand and (God forbid) if we did happen to drop it, we DO have the money to pay for it. We did not dress up to go walk around the farmers market in late June in order to impress vendors, nor should we have to, but we were treated despicably by Kate Rothra Fleming. The piece my mom picked up was around $250, and my mom was willing to spend MUCH more than that on a beautiful piece of local Charleston jewelry. I myself could have bought Kate’s entire booth with a portion of my bank account alone. She lost our business which is unfortunate for her because her Etsy shop and Facebook page don’t seem to be doing too well. I would think that the city of charleston would not want their vendors to have such a rude and unwelcome presence in such a historically...

This was a great farmers market. They had beautiful produce, where if I lived nearby, I would definitely visit the market to get my produce every week. They also had a really nice variety of vendors. We ate at breakfast here from a vendor that sold breakfast burritos - they were delicious and HUGE. Unless you are really hungry, split one with someone. My daughter and I didn't realize how big they were and both got our own and could both only eat half. I love the Charleston farmers market, lots to see, tons of samples, friendly people. We bought some olive oil from Olinda farms, it is so delicious!! You pay 11.00 for 8oz bottle, bring it back and they will refill it for 8.00! Definitely better tasting than anything you can buy in the store. Then the delicious ice cold fresh lemonade...mmmm.
