My experience here was almost perfect. One staff member was horrible, but everything else was amazing. We had never been here for some reason and we picked the hottest day of the summer to do this so that's our fault. But it was still packed with others doing the same thing. When we checked in with the hostess downstairs she was very nice and sent us to the 8th floor. We arrived and there was no hostess at the host stand. We waited a bit and no one showed so we wondered into the bar where the bartender immediately knew we were looking for the hostess and told us she would send her. We waited again and others arrived after us. She finally walked out, I didn't get her name, she was very young and Asian. We gave her our name and she told us NO she did not have our name and there was no room for us. ???? My husband said we had JUST checked in and was sent straight up and again she told us no, no room for us. My husband asked her if there was no room why were we allowed up ( valid question right?) SHE ROLLED HER EYES AT HIM then said, " FINE" and walks us outside. She tried to sit us in the middle where there is NO VIEW and acted aggravated when we asked to sit at one of the tables on the perimeter so we could enjoy the view.
At that point I wanted to just leave but we decided to at least have a drink.
We did not have an umbrella because all were taken and it was our fault for coming in the middle of the hottest day ever but luckily our bartender Merideth was very friendly and brought waters quickly while we looked at the menu. And she was working in that heat so who am I to complain about sitting in it? I was going to order the popsicle champaign drink because it came with glitter and what girl doesn't like glitter? But when she explained it's an actually popsicle in the drink I pictured a melty mess in the heat so quickly ordered something else. Not sure what I ordered but it had a fresh flower on top which I thought was cute and it was a great drink so I had a second while my husband had his standard drinks. Merideth did move us to a table with an umbrella before our second drinks so we were able to really enjoy the view. We will be back when it cools down and hope the rude hostess is not working the day...
Read moreVentured out to The Citrus Club the night before new years eve for a few drinks on a whim. On entering the citrus club, we were promptly greeted by the hostess who was preparing to take another party to their table. In her absence, the manager, Ross, immediately greeted us by name and promptly found us a table. On this chilly December evening, we were taken to a table for two, which unfortunately did not have a heater nearby. We requested a table with a heater and Ross, quickly jumped into action. He circled the restaurant for considerations for another table, and when that wasn't possible, he moved a heater over to our table to make sure we had an outstanding evening.
We ordered our first round of drinks which unfortunately weren't to our liking; likely a reflection of preference and not quality. Ross, showing signs of an outstanding manager, and on making his rounds, swung by the table and immediately noticed something was amiss. He inquired about the drinks and on noticing my girlfriend make nice of the situation, immediately rectified it with the grace and elegance of that to be expected from a 5 star restaurant and bar.
Ross was a pleasant reminder of the dying art of management in an incredibly tough food and beverage industry. His attention to detail throughout the night in making sure his restaurant/bar was run as smoothly as possible became somewhat of a dinner show for us as we were so blown away by his charm, demeanor and professionalism that we made it a point to watch him work his art form.
He never once forgot to greet you by name, and moreover, the fact that he remembered it was clear sign that he makes it a point to be a standout in his career-likely a page taken from Dale Carnegie and one that will certainly serve him well in his craft
Ross is an incredible asset to the Citrus Club and to the Charleston food and beverage scene. There is little doubt that he will elevate his career to exceeding heights with his drive to be the best at...
Read moreLiving downtown has its perks, and I finally got to check out the rooftop with its stunning view. But honestly, I was pretty let down. The cocktails were beyond disappointing for a place like this. They tasted like watered-down versions of themselves since they were so loaded with crushed ice! There was no class or decor—no cute glassware or any final touch to make them special. And at $20 a pop, that’s really frustrating!
Also, I don’t understand the patio seating situation. They don’t take reservations but have a waiting list?! We waited over an hour, and the whole time, there were plenty of empty tables while people kept arriving and getting seated outside!
The waitress was ok, but there was no general manager present, and the hostess didn’t make us feel very welcome. In fact, there was no goodbye or thank you for coming when we left!
I suppose they probably thought we were tourists and didn’t care about us. I really wanted to like this place since we are locals, but it feels like it’s more geared toward tourists than residents! The atmosphere was below average and very basic, with no ambiance whatsoever. It was quite limited and boring. My recommendation would be to not waste your time here. It’s a tourist trap. There are plenty of other businesses downtown with insanely good cocktails and a killer atmosphere! But no view,...
