The venue is assituated nicely in the heart of uptown (downtown Charlotte. They call it Uptown.). If you like the night life, it's a great place to go if you want a mix of options with your movie night. They have a bar and pool tables in the venue as well.
As for the movie, I liked the auditorium and the screen ok for a dinner theater, it's pretty routine. I thought the volume was too loud though and it seemed like it was not really surround sound. Felt like it was all coming from the screen, or from the front. The seats were ok but a little awkward with the tray table that is kind of small and doesn't swivel very far. Get an aisle seat if you need room. There is only one drink holder, it's on the arm rest and is lower, offset down and right of the tray.
The best way to enjoy your movie here is to get there early so you can be placing your oder before the previews start. Once the movie starts, you can imagine how tedius it can be. The service was a let down though. Many of the staff taking orders were friendly but all of the young people I saw bringing in the food seemed indifferent or like they lacked confidence and were not connecting with their hosts at all. I ordered the flat bread buffalo chicken pizza and jalepeno hush puppies. Both were good but the hush puppies pretty much didn't have any jalepeno's in them, not even a smidge of heat. NONE. I asked for jalepenos on my pizza and did not get them. The food was barely warm on arrival and was cold within minutes. I asked for a side of ranch and did not get it for 30+ minutes after asking multiple times. My drink came even later, again after asking at least 4+ times.
Someone compared the cost of the food to other movie theaters. The food may be a little fancier but if you get an appetizer, an entree and an alcoholic drink, your looking at about $30 or more easy. I could get chicken fingers and popcorn and be totally happy with that, movie ticket included for $20.
One young server showed moral integrity and character as he was the last to respond to my request for a side of ranch and my drink. He returned within minutes of my request and at the end of the night made it a point to look me in the eyes and apologize for the poor service. If SMG would hire more people like him, the entire experience would be much more worth the expense.
Another bonus to coming here is the verified parking. If your going to see a movie you can drive and park in the epicenter, for free (up to 4...

Read moreIve never been harassed by security so much. I walked in carrying a camera that was off and a camera bag. A guard told me I couldn't take pics or video. I said ok. The camera remained off the entire time. I walked around just looking around seeing what places were there. Some security guard starts screaming at me and telling me I cant have the camera and I have to leave immediately. I ignored him and walked away because the first guard already told me. The camera was at my side and never was raised or aimed or anything to indicate usage. Once again it was not turned on. The guard starts following me and runs up on me and starts getting in my way saying the police have been called. He called the police because I was dangling a camera by my side. The cops are always near by. They arrived along with his supervisor. The supervisor told me i couldn't have a bag with me and that was why I had to leave. I pointed out 3 random women walking by with various sized bags and asked if they were special or if they were going to be escorted out as well. The cop was there trying to hold back chuckles at the absurdity of these try hards. I asked the cop if the nonsense was legit. He told me that it was private property and they could throw me out for any or no reason. So I left. I haven't been back and never...
