As Hilton rewards members, we were disappointed by our stay at this location. On the most positive note, it was conveniently located to our primary destination. Plus the staff, for the most part, was friendly (not so much the staffer who checked us out, who effused indifference). To begin with, we were promised a corner room with a river view. And, while it was a corner, the river was only visible if one craned their neck. The room itself was on an unrenovated floor, the wall paper was peeling in places, the bathroom very dim, and the old bathtub unappealing. We requested a different room, and got one on a higher, renovated floor. It was definitely an improvement but was still lacking. The shower gel dispenser was missing from the shower; there was no bathmat; and the "lighted" magnifying make-up mirror didn't light. The phone did not work and we asked that it be fixed while we were at dinner. (We needed to use our cell phones to call a 1-800 number to reach the front desk!) When we returned, the phone hadn't been fixed and no explanation was left behind. However, they did leave a pile of fresh linens (comforter, sheets, pillow cases, and towels) piled up on the dresser. We did NOT ask for these. Needless to say, it made the room look messy. They did, thankfully, replace the shower gel dispenser. We realize that this is not the Four Seasons, but the lack of basic amenities (no robes, no mouthwash, no cotton swabs, no glasses in the bathroom, no honor bar, etc.) really made the place seem cheap. At best it was functional but not fun.

This is an updated review of the DoubleTree at Cherry Hill after staying for 4 nights in May 2025.

My previous 2 star review was posted last year after staying 3 nights in May 2024. I also stayed here for 3 nights in May 2022 as well.

For historical context, this property has changed names/brands over the years. The prior iteration was the Crowne Plaza and back in 2022, some of the online maps and GPS still had the name of the old hotel in their systems.

Since I last stayed here a year ago, the DoubleTree has renovated many of its rooms. It is a definite improvement with nicer and more modern furnishings. As a result, I've upgraded the Rooms and Overall rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. I've also included some photos of the newly renovated rooms.

In 2024, I complained about nasty couch stains, cracks in the bathroom and bottom of the door, a slight mildew-like smell, and another smell coming from the drainage hole of the sink. At the time, my colleagues complained about toilets that would not flush, broken closet doors, and staff turning off water so that running water was brown and you needed to let it run for a few minutes before it turned clear.

Most of these issues seem to be resolved with the 2025 renovations. However, while the bathroom and shower were newly furnished, I could still see old cracks along the bathroom door frame and at the bottom of the bathroom door.

In 2024, I had a noise problem with maintenance using power drills in an adjoining room. And then on later days there were noisy groups of people in the hallway and next door. I did not have any noise issues this year in 2025.

The one issue I did have was a dripping showerhead. In the attached pictures, you can see what looks like the cover of a water tank leaning against the shower wall. That is what it looked like when I first checked in. That cover goes over the drain. When the cover is over the drain, the dripping showerhead makes a loud continual noise. When you remove the cover, the noise is less noticeable. I guess the prior occupants also noticed the dripping showerhead and that was their brilliant workaround!

The staff was fine in 2025. They were friendly in 2024 and were generous with water bottles. But back in 2022 they were less nice and there were long waits. Internet worked fine.

IMHO, the biggest strength of this hotel is its location, very conveniently located along the Cooper River. Distance to the river is easily walkable. It also looks like there is a shopping area 1.5 miles along Route 70 W but it's a 30 minute walk.

This hotel also has free cookies and they are generous with them. The cookies are pretty good. There is chocolate in them as well as walnuts (so be aware if you have nut allergies). They do have nut-free cookies as well that you can specifically ask for. Keep in mind that they are 310 calories each.

Downstairs there is a restaurant, Embers. In 2025, I had a burger (which was just average) and I ordered a pizza to go which was not that good (reminded me of a soggy Totino's pizza). A colleague had a crispy pizza and we suspect that was because they ate it dine-in when there was a metal tin underneath compared to my paper to-go box. Several of my colleagues enjoyed the french onion soup though they were initially surprised by the appearance (it looked like creme brulee). In 2024 I didn't eat there but some of my colleagues spoke highly of salad with shrimp add-ins. I did eat at Embers in 2022 and remember the food as being okay but a bit pricey and there was...

I want to say that I have never left a review ever but I have also never had an experience at a hotel like I did. The staff at the front desk were very nice and accommodating. That was the highlight. I know the hotel is under renovations but geez. Our issues did not seem to be renovation issues. I’m not complaining about the carpet looking old or the dated wallpaper or patchwork on the water stains. Our first room was a regular room with two queen beds. It was okay until we took a shower with a tub that would not drain and we were each standing in a foot and a half of water. Between that and not figuring out the hVAC so it didn’t kick on and off every 10 minutes, I went to speak with the front desk. They were very kind and tried to fix things. They gave us a junior suite on another floor. So we went to that room and it was okay except the light fixture in one of the bathrooms was filled with water and dripping on the floor. Not really safe. So back down to the desk we went. They then gave us the keys to another junior suite. This suite had no potential electrical fires but we had to let the water in one bathrooms run for over 10 minutes because it was brown. The A/C in the living area did not work and the phone did not work either. Back down to the desk and they said they would have someone go look at it and gave us $60 off one night. We headed to the pool/dinner and when we came back to the room those two things were not fixed. Since the windows in the room open (which was crazy to me), we cracked them to get more air in that area. It was our last night, we were not moving again. I hope when they are done the renovations this hotel reaches it potential but it was nowhere worth what I paid for our visit. In my 40 plus years on this planet, I have never had so many problems with a hotel room. I’m an extremely patient and understanding person but damn, I might be getting old and crotchety because it was not something I could live with for the price I had paid. If we are ever in the area again, I will definitely check reviews to see if things have improved. Another side note was the bar/food area, if they ever do Bar Rescue-Hotel edition, that place would be a good candidate. They only had two people working and maybe about a dozen people in the bar area. It took over 20 minutes to try and get a drink. It was almost like they didn’t know how to divide the work between the two of them. Many of the kegs were kicked and all I was told was someone was suppose to replace them but that never happened. I know they are not perfect either but I usually stay at Marriotts and I think I need to keep with...

DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!! This hotel is infested with mice and the staff are aware and do nothing. We had two conjoining rooms, 4 adults and 2 children. Upon seeing the first mouse in our first room, we were offered a new set of rooms three floors down. After switching rooms at 10pm at night, within 15 mins we saw another mouse. The mice are all over the hotel, not in specific areas. We were offered free breakfast for the "Inconvenience" which we politely declined. We spoke to the manager on duty the morning after seeing multiple mice and having to switch rooms. She spoke with her supervisor who stated the best they could do was to check us out (a day early) and refund us for that one night's stay on both rooms. This was not an option as we didn't have any alternative accommodations and we would have had to end our trip a day early. The shower/tubs were disgusting and not clean. There was hair in both shower stalls and both drains were so clogged the tub filled up within minutes of turning the water on. We couldn't shower on our last day since it was so dirty from everyone showering the day before and the water pooling so high. One of the nights, we stopped at the desk to ask for more towels as we only had two in one room which had 4 people in it. They stated somebody would bring them right up to the room. About 20 minutes later, a very annoyed, disgruntled security guard showed up pretty pissed HE had to bring us towels. He was mumbling that everyone went home and the laundry service is over and why do we need towels now (it was around 9:30pm at night). I couldn't believe the attitude on him. The size of the pool and the quality of the water was good and honestly the best part of our stay. However, there was broken glass and trash (cigarette butts, RAW blunt wraps) everywhere from people hanging out the night before. My daughter's friend also stabbed her toe on an earring found at the bottom of the pool causing her to bleed. Not sure the pool is ever vacuumed. Also, one of the underwater lights in the wall of the pool was hanging out of it's hole and could easily cause an injury. Overall, this hotel definitely put a damper on our birthday celebration for my daughter's 10th bday. Her and her friend were so uncomfortable sleeping after the mice incident that honestly none of us slept. We couldn't enjoy any snacks or food in our rooms as we didn't want to attract any more mice than we already had to deal with. We were happier away from the hotel and annoyed that we had to go back. We had nowhere else to go. Stay far away from this hotel. The department of health should be called...
