Sunday was my first time purchasing a new mattress from Bob's. We were being helped by a sales associate named Mercedes. After we tried out a few of the mattresses, we picked the one we wanted and went to go checkout. As we were checking out, Mercedes told us that there was an 18 year warranty on the mattress but we needed to purchase one of Bob's Furniture's mattress protector sets or else the warranty would be void. She told us "we have two options".
Option #1 - A full enclosure mattress protector that would cover all sides and had a zipper around the edge. This option was $150. Mercedes told us that she's had this style before and it's a pain to get on and off to wash (valid point).
Option #2 - A full enclosure mattress protector with a fitted cooling sheet on top. This option was $230. We were told that since we got a cooling mattress, we would want the cooling fitted sheet or else it defeats the purpose of a cooling mattress.
I asked Mercedes if I could just use my own mattress protector that I already had, and I was told that the warranty would not be valid if I did that. This didn't sit right with me, so I clarified by asking "So if my mattress starts to sink in 10 years, I can't get a replacement if I use my own mattress protector?" to which she replied "Correct". Again, still wasn't sitting right, but I figured paying ~$200 for an 18 year warranty wasn't crazy. I was going back and forth about buying the mattress protector at all when I then asked if I just bought the non-cooling full enclosure protector, would the benefits of the cooling mattress still be felt. I was told that the cooling mattress would work just fine with only the full enclosure protector. I should have known something was off when she said this because it contradicted her previous statement that I needed the more expensive cooling sheet version of the mattress protector. I finally decided to purchase the lower cost option with only the full enclosure protector, and she walked over to a display and grabbed a protector kit for me. As I was walking out, I realized the kit she gave me had 2 pillow protectors and a fitted cooling sheet...no full enclosure protector. This wasn't even one of the two options she said I had.
So when I got out to my car, I called customer support and asked if all of that information was accurate and the lady on the phone apologized and said most of that was completely made up. The only warranty voided if you don't use Bob's protector kit is if you get a spill or a stain on the mattress and want a replacement. This made a lot more sense. She also told me there were a lot of other mattress protector options that they offered that did not come in a kit with useless $60 pillow protectors, but we were told "We have 2 options". She even told me the warranty is still valid for manufacturer defects if I use my own mattress protector. She said she felt awful that the sales person misled me like that and recommended I go back and return it, which I did.
I don't know if the sales people get a bonus for selling mattress protection kits instead of the more logical, cheaper options...but if you're working with Mercedes, i'd recommend bringing a manager over to validate her claims.
Delivery of the mattress was prompt and the actually mattress is very nice though...just a bad experience with a...
Read moreI bought the twin bed/box spring and bed frame for a guest room for the holidays. This was NOT a smart purchase nor would I recommend to anyone. I didn’t bother trying to return since I needed it asap and because I bought this particular one knowing it was inexpensive but truthfully, it isn’t inexpensive, it is just cheap. The stitching is undone and falling apart all around the edges. Mattress and box spring are not the same size and no matter how many ways you try to line them up, they won’t because they are neither the same size nor actual rectangular shape. When you sit on the mattress, it completely depresses, the sides will sink all the way, and the cheap springs will be visible through the mattress. The springs also hurt terribly and VERY uncomfortable. I bought 6 inches worth of extra mattress padding (which gets very pricey) to compensate for my guest using the bed. The bed frame does not lock into position for twin size nor even in the small position, does the twin bed actually fit. There’s a gap. For all these reasons, the bed frame and bed never stay in place or is falling off. I jammed the bed between other furniture pieces so that its not annoying for my guest to constantly try to figure out the puzzle of making the bed in the morning, distorted products that do not line up and the frame that keeps pulling apart and the bed that does not sit in the frame properly. Lastly, the leg/feet of bed frame are not finished edges on all sides. It’s jagged and dangerous and I strongly recommend you do not purchase this as it will cause injury unknowingly. I was wiping the floor around the bed from all the dust and loose threads after I made the bed and the jagged edge of the leg scraped a layer off my forearm. It was really bad and bleeding badly. I still have the scar on my arm 4 months later and this was December 2019 that I purchased the bed and this occurred. I wrapped cardboard around the legs so my guest doesn’t hurt herself. Needing something inexpensive was the reason for purchase however you can find much higher quality products at Amazon, IKEA, Costco for same or better price. In fact, because you need to purchase extra padding because of the cheap mattress/springs, it is most definitely NOT worth buying products from Bob’s. You can easily find very good, solid, functional twin bed frames at almost anywhere else for the price Bob’s is asking. I only purchased through Bob’s for convenience of making one purchase of all items together. Shop around, you will find that Bob’s is not the best deal for inexpensive purchases. The only plus on the shopping experience is that that they had a very good automated delivery system in place that you can track as you begrudgingly wait for your furniture arrival and the delivery men were very...
Read moreWhere to start with this ongoing debacle? Purchased the Fusion bedset on 9/2/2022 and was told 6-8 weeks delivery window. Received a delivery date of 10/6 for the mattress, bed and tall dresser. Pretty reasonable, right? Keep in mind, Bob's doesn't dispose of the actual furniture, only the mattresses, so any actual old furniture that will be in the way has to be disposed of or relocated. Received a phone call just before delivery and after our old furniture was disposed of, that delivery will be rescheduled for 10/20 for complete delivery because only the mattress and tall dresser were available. Then received a call that only the mattress, bed and tall dresser were coming on the 20th, but the chesser and night stand would have to be delivered on 10/26. Guess what? 10/26 rolls around and the delivery shows up without the night stand, which had been scheduled for a separate delivery date without out knowledge. We decided to completed cancel the nightstand at this point, and getting a refund for this was troublesome, but eventually accomplished. Sounds like the end.....nope. After removing the mattress to center the bed in the room myself, I noticed that 3 support legs had been slid out when delivery slid the bed and it was missing a completely separate leg with the hardware. Bob's customer care was contacted on 11/8 and the part verified, ordered and the website indicated a 3/2023 delivery date! We chose to have Bob's send someone out, which was today, 11/25, and apparantly with the actual part. The technician came out, attempted to rectify the situation with what I assume were extra parts from other sets, none of which fit. While this was being determined, the gentleman indicated that the bed was not properly assembled. He choose to put us into contact with customer care, who determined it was quicker to order a new headboard, footboard and legs which at this point, is slated to be delivered on 12/20. We didn't get to address the fact that the headboard lighting switches only work some of the time. Hopefully that will be remedied with the new headboard. Don't try to use the website, as it's never accurate or updated appropriately. Every date listed was necessary for my fiancé to leave or schedule off of work. This, so far, is a lot of nonsense for a $3,900 purchase. I'm sure this is to be...
