Allow me to preface this review by saying that the magical wonderment of this restaurant was made 10 times better by the fact that I had just been treated awfully at the nearby sushi restaurant Oh Yoko and was still shell-shocked. My girlfriend and my little sister, who were with me, were also still in horror at the treatment we received at Oh Yoko. Then we arrived at Mikado and it was like we had suffered through Sushi Restaurant Hell and thus been finally allowed to arrive in Sushi Restaurant Heaven.
The restaurant as a whole is very pretty. It has a nice atmosphere, beautiful plants outside, a nice outdoor sitting area, and most importantly, very very nice people working there. As soon as we walked in and asked to sit outside, the employees there were happy to help us and also concerned for our comfort, warning us that we might be cold. Once we were seated outside, our waitress Helen (ask for Helen if you go, she is lovely!) brought over rice noodles for the table and they were delicious. We ordered soon after and when I told Helen about all of our food allergy concerns (my sister and I both have serious food allergies, my girlfriend avoids them also for my safety), she was helpful, attentive, and patient. This is all in stark contrast to our experience at Oh Yoko where we were yelled at just for trying to find food that wouldn't send me to the hospital and told that we couldn't eat at Japanese restaurants!
Our food was served to us very quickly and we hardly had to wait at all. Mine was actually brought out with soy sauce on it (soy is one of my allergens) but Helen took one look at the plate and quickly apologized and took it away, bringing back a new soy-free order almost immediately. Everything was delicious and tasted extremely fresh, and it was all beautifully presented - and the prices here are extremely good for such a nice atmosphere along with such good food. When we had finished, Helen brought out hot towels for our hands and slices of pineapple for us. We all literally couldn't stop talking about how nice everything was.
We will definitely be visiting Mikado again in the future, and definitely asking for Helen again as well! I have no idea why this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating because it's the best sushi restaurant I have ever...
Read moreThe food only gets 2 stars because the seafood salad was decent enough.
The place was clean, a little too dim for me but the decor was also well put together not my style but it was done well.
I walked in and stood around aimlessly in an almost empty restaurant before I was addressed with “ordering for take out or here”by the manager
I was initially on the phone when the server asked what I wanted to drink, I clearly hadn’t even opened the menu. I wasnt greeted or welcomed by my server either. Just “would you like something to drink to start” I asked for a minute and got 15
I had the seafood salad and the shrimp shoyu ramen.
Now I’ve rated/reviewed quite a few ramen places and this place by far has THE MOST TASTELESS BROTH IVE EVER HAD
It was beyond bland! As I ate I remembered reading one of the reviews below saying “I can make better ramen with instant noods” which is probably because as other reviewers mentioned there’s broccoli and carrots in the ramen.
What they don’t tell you is there’s zucchini (poorly chopped) and onions in there also. Which lets an experienced chef like myself know that they simply just took their shrimp hibachi prep threw it in broth and called it ramen which is both lazy and cost cutting if you’re going to serve ramen get ramen specific ingredients at least have bamboo shoots an egg maybe.
Which then brings me to the noodles, also not good! And seeing as how I’ve previously deduced their “economically efficient” methods”- I’m pretty sure they’re buying cheap spaghetti noodles
10/10 DON’T RECOMMEND at least for ramen
Disclaimer sushi could be good, as I was impressed with the salads presentation (specifically the cut...
Read moreI wish I could leave 0 stars but that would be for service alone since I never got to taste the food. I am writing this review from La Cita which is down the street. I made a reservation for my boyfriend and I on a 4/17 at 8 pm. We got there at 7:50 and was not addressed by the staff right away even though we were the only ones there besides a group of 5 white people who were seated promptly after speaking with a worker there for about 5 minutes (they may have known him). After they were seated, we still waiting for our table until about 8:15 which defeated the purpose of a reservation even though there were plenty of seats. The workers there ( 3 we had spoken to) seemed very dismissive of us being there. As a black couple, our alarm started to go off but we wanted to give them a chance. We were seated and given menus. After 10 minutes, no one had been to our table and we hadn’t even received waters. When a server finally did come, she reached across us grab our bottle was on the table (it’s a BYOB) and turned it so she could see what it was. I felt that it completely unnecessary. She then asked if anyone had brought us glasses which clearly they hadn’t. And while I was saying that we weren’t brought anything, she walked away. After waiting another 5 minutes, we decided to leave. The entire time, I was looking for another place to go. We stumbled upon La Cita which so far has had very good food and very...
