Welcome to the Drury Plaza Hotel Cleveland Downtown, where history meets modern comfort! ✨ Built in 1931 as the Cleveland Board of Education, this Beaux-Arts beauty still wows with marble floors, soaring arches, and murals painted during the Great Depression. 💛 Don’t miss the Lincoln statue, paid for with pennies from Cleveland schoolchildren! 🥂 Today, after a stunning restoration, you’ll enjoy free hot breakfast, evening drinks and snacks, and rooms full of character right in the heart of downtown. 📍 Book your stay and sleep inside a true Cleveland landmark! #tiktokgostay #staycation #traveltiktok #hotelreview #cleveland

This is a grand old dame of a hotel and with a little TLC, she could shine again.

Let's begin with the good stuff. I booked 2 queens but was upgraded to to King Suite. The room was spacious and had amazing views of the city, especially in the evening. The bed was comfy and the linens were soft and fesh. Every staff member I encountered was friendly, approachable, and professional. From the front desk, to the valet, to the staff who served the included meals, all were wonderful! Dinner, 3 drinks, and breakfast were all included with my stay.

I didn't know about dinner, so I made a reservation at Chop House. Still, I went down to check out what they were serving and to have a pre-dinner drink. Even though dinner was served a few minutes early and guests were invited to partake, the bartender refused to make a drink until the clock showed 5:30. She won that battle, but she lost the war. The rumor of her off-putting behavior was passed on to guests as they entered the dinning hall.

The hotel was once glorious. Marble floors and walls. Brass elevators and chandeliers. Sadly, it is not being maintained. The floors have lost their sheen. The brass is no longer wiped clean let alone polished. When was the last time the exterior windows were washed? Every single door had luggage scuff marks that need buffed. Our room was clean-ish. Basic house keeping is being done, but not deep cleaning. There was toothpaste on the wall by the sink and something spilled and ran down a wall behind a table. There is one hard to reach corner in the bathroom where stuff has accumulated. (See my pix.) Staff is either rushed or not trained to look through the lens of guests that shelled our more than a half a thousand dollars to spend one night here. If they did, they'd scrub that stuff off the walls and get thar corner clean.

Another suggestion I have is to unlock the number of rooms that can be booked for just one night on big game weekends. When I tried to boom the room for one night it was sold out. I noticed that if I booked for 2 nights, it was not sold out, so I called and booked through AAA. They booked me for 2 nights and then cancelled the second night. I bet there were lots of empty rooms last night as a result of this setting. This hotel should have been sold out. It's across the street from the stadium!

If this hotel were anywhere else, I'd be back in a heartbeat, but I have no desire to return to Cleveland ever again. There was a lot of visible police presence and despite being snarled at by a seemingly homeless woman resting on the bench behind the hotel, I felt very safe downtown.

What I do not understand and did not enjoy were the people on motorcycles and in cars that had been modified to to make them rev extra loud who drove around downtown blasting their music and revving their engines past every restaurant with outdoor dining. Spending 100$ on dinner and having it interrupted with the monotonous engine revving or what one manchild on a motorcycle thinks is good music is not cool. The revving and music blasting lasted until 2 am, so no, I did not sleep well at The Druary.

This childish attention seeking behavior is ruining the vibe of what otherwise is an amazing city. These service industries employ hundreds of locals. Why would other locals want to destroy their businesses and put fellow Clevelandites out of work? I don't get it.

I do not understand why these service industries do not unite and go to city counsel to resolve this problem. The city needs a noise ordinance so the police can enforce it.

Cleveland has amazing architecture and beautiful murals. Great food at places with great views, but next time I save up a grand and want to go somewhere to celebrate, I'm picking...

There are pros and cons about this place. Pros - front desk ladies were very nice and helpful. My husband and I didn't know the area very well, but the ladies at the front desk helped us out-where to park, how to get to certain places.

The hotel had a happy hour. It was pretty good food! There were nachos with cheese sauce, mixed veggies, meatballs, mashed potatoes, and hot dogs. Each person gets 3 free drinks when you stay there- alcoholic or non. I'm not sure if that food we ate is the norm every night, but the food was good. There is a very small restaurant down the hallway, but there were a lot more people at the happy hour.

Later on, we did order pizza. It was a decent price for a hotel pizza, $15. It was really good! We got tomatoes and sausage on it.

The room was small. We had a fairly nice view of a building and the street. The bathroom was small, but the shower was really pretty! Very big! The bed was ok. Fairly bouncy. I felt every move my husband made while we were sleeping. Our room was right by the ice maker, but I never heard it, so that was nice. It was also nice that our floor was very quiet.

The building is beautiful inside and out! The buildings around the area are also beautiful. I highly recommend going to the Cleveland public library! It's right next to the Drury. They have a room filled with hanging dried flowers. So very beautiful!!

The Drury is also very close to Playhouse Square. That is why my husband and I stayed at the Drury.

Now for the cons. There aren't many. The biggest for me was that there were no trash bags in the trash cans in the room. I think that's very unsanitary. The rooms are fairly small. The higher up your room is, the more money you pay, which doesn't make sense at all because there's really nothing to see, other than other buildings. The hotel has only 6 floors. The rooms do need an update. I saw blotches of paint throughout the room where they repaired the wall.

The biggest money maker there, and everywhere in downtown Cleveland, is the parking, either valet or the parking deck! You spend a lot to park, and they even charge you an extra $10 when you take your car out and come back. Every place I saw when we walked around, was the same way. We did park in a parking garage. It was $25 for all night. Some places were more around the area! We never took our car out of the garage until the next day when we were leaving the hotel. I think paying that much money to park is a little crazy!

There is a pool and hot tub, but we never went to see it.

The Drury is not a bad place to stay at all. It's close to a lot of places...

I have stayed at the Cleveland location 4 times now since last December (2024). The first and second stay were great. The third stay was on December 1st and I stayed and checked out without issue. After about a week I realized I had left my apple watch in the room, no problem. I checked find my phone and seen with my eyes that it was still at the hotel. I called to let them know I had left it and would be returning to pick it up in a few days when I was back out that way. The receptionist answered and told me that my watch was in the safe and described the band to me. Once I arrived to pick it up, the hotel manager told me that they had no record of my watch and that it was not ever there. I left my information and chalked it up to my fault for leaving it there, must have been a fluke somewhere. The hotel was great, so no harm no foul. My fourth stay was January 23rd 2025. ( I forget things everywhere) I checked out again, no issues, great stay. Once I got home, I realized I had left my business cell in the room. Once again, I check find my phone and the phone was located in the hotel. This time I drove the 45 minutes back to get it. While I was traveling to the hotel, my phone was traveling to 788 East 90th street. When I went into the hotel I asked to speak to the manager and let them know I had left my phone and watched it travel from here to an apartment building. The manager told me that it was not his problem. I asked for them to please see who cleaned my room and explained that this is the second time something like this has happened. Again, he told me its not his problem.....Call the cops then. I did in fact make a police report and there is a current investigation going on. Apparently, this has been an ongoing issue. Bottom line is someone from the hotel is stealing electronics from the rooms after people check out. They were just unlucky enough to steal from the same person twice. I now have $2000 worth of my belongings stolen from their property from a locked room. UPDATE: 3/17 absolutely no compensation whatsoever. Not even an apology. The hotel kept the employee, the employee that cleaned my room did not leave the premises with my phone, they handed it off a half hour after I checked out. Since she did not leave, they “can’t prove” anything. Make sure you have EVERYTHING...
