We had a king room and the room itself was spacious with a nice sitting area and desk. The decor is nice. The bathroom is very small and crowded but had good hot water. The bed and bedding was average, but clean. The night time staff was polite but the morning desk clerk was rude when I called to ask a question. The biggest complaint we had was that there was no sound insulation. It sounded like the people in the halls were in our room talking. There was non stop noise and light streaming in under the door, it needs to be sealed with a weather strip or something. The highway noise was also very loud all night, so just be prepared for that. The worst part was that there was a large dog across the hall that barked and barked and barked. I'm a dog lover and often travel with my own dog, but this was unacceptable travel etiquette. It woke us VERY EARLY in the morning and continued barking off and on throughout the morning until we left. It was obnoxious and should not have been allowed to continue. If the rooms had more sound proofing maybe it would have helped the dog settle and maybe we wouldn't have been so disturbed by the barking. In general, the room was nice but the sounds were horrible and the general cleanliness of the common areas need to be improved. There's was a bad smell in the lobby area, just like old smoke and mildew. None of the staff that we encountered were wearing masks.

I have stayed at other locations in the past and enjoyed my stay but this one was disappointing. Construction had been started on the second floor where I was but nothing was done in the 3 nights i was there. Housekeeping didn't show up till after 3:30 - 4 PM both days. First day they were next door when I left and asked for extra towels, of which I got no face cloths and an extra floor mat. The ac is about 6 inches from the bed and had to be run all the time to try and cool the room. There were stains on multiple walls. The shower door was not properly aligned and leaked out to the floor. I would update the rooms before the hallways. When I go see my daughter again I will probably stay somewhere else.

Overall not the worst hotel but definitely not a great one either. Pros: room and bathroom good size Over clean Cons: The AC in our room didn't work. They fixed it. The shower water does not get hot, just a little warm and then back to cold. Lounge area/ breakfast area chairs are all torn and peeling. Not very pretty. Update: we told the front desk and they were just apathetic. Person at front was like meh maybe to many people were showering. I was up at 6:20 am showering in cold water. Update 2: went to go get ice. Ice maker on the 3rd floor is leaking and by the looks of the wall it has been for a while. There is a huge puddle on the floor and damage to baseboards.

Despite some unflattering reviews rendered a few months before mine, I have found on my first stay, that this hotel aquits the brand well.

Pros

  1. Spacious rooms
  2. Good countertop space in King Suite. I put my multifunction toaster oven on top of microwave for cooking during weeklong stay. My electric skillet found its place on the counter on one side of the bed nearest the kitchenette area, which was okay as I could use the desk on the other side with a long charging cable to keep phone powered.
  3. Working desk large enough to double as eating surface, but the Deluxe King Suite adds a table.
  4. Couch was handy for relaxing moments during this study retreat (as I am a College Professor). There was also a parlor chair as well.
  5. Ample lighting and electrical lighting throughout.
  6. Artistry on the walls and on the room darkening shade-makes you go humm! Lol!
  7. High toilet in bathroom that makes a "throne" speaking from a man's perspective.
  8. Refrigerator has a freezer cabinet, which many hotels with a microfridge don't. This allowed me to bring my box of Laughing Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches. It can hold a couple of boxes of a frozen item of that size. If you want more room for, say, a box of leftovers from one of the nearby restaurants, one of the 3 shelves in the fridge could be removed.

Cons

  1. Wifi can be spotty, but if you have an ethernet port, a cable can be found on the desk to connect that way. If you want to connect a Roku, for example, the signal goes out periodically. At that point, I had to use precious data via my mobile hotspot. Also when you connect your device by HDMI on the side of the LG TV, there is a knob at the bottom center that you press and move to the right to change your input source. Hotel staff did not know this, but as a techie, I figured it out!
  2. They don't have a pantry but the age old vending machines on the floors. Unfortunately, water was out on every floor. They probably need servicing more often. There is a Publix nearby on Weddington Road. Get your own beverages and snacks!
  3. Fitness room is sufficient but I would have like to have seen a cable machine as the best hotels are equipped with
  4. No meats such as sausage or bacon and no eggs, so get your own at Publix nearby that are microwavable to augment your breakfast. I do appreciate the mini waffle, pancake, and beverage machines though!
  5. Pool was closed, but I don't think I would use it if it were open. The setup doesn't look inviting.

A concluding note, I found the desk staff to be professional and helpful, Michelle on 1st, Dawn on 2nd, and Peter (I think)...

Where do I begin?

We were invited to book a room with this hotel for the very first time ever (this chain) for the Marine Corps Ball under Group Pricing. My wife booked a room for ourselves as well as a room for my Mother and her Husband that we invited to the ball. The group rate was for 89 dollars which seemed reasonable to us because we normally stay at Mariott Hotels.

I checked in early to the hotel and received the room. The appearance of the hotel was ok, the lobby was updated and seemed to have a new appealing display of their new spokesperson (the guy from game of thrones). Getting into the elevators it smelt like mildew, to the extent where it was extremely noticeable and rancid. The room was nice, but nothing special. I will give the hotel this, the room seemed clean and well kept.

OVERALL the hotel physically was not bad, other than the elevator.

Checking out was another story. When I checked out of my room I was given a receipt that said 157 dollars. I quickly asked about the 89 dollar group rate and the receptionist was extremely nice and tried to fix the issue. She was unable to fix the issue and told me to leave my receipt with contact info and they would fix it and send me a new receipt.

Upon returning home there were two charges on our card, one for 157 dollars and one for 101 dollars.

Two weeks later I still had heard nothing about this being fixed so we began calling the hotel. All said and done they told us that they could not change the rate to the group rate because it was never available when we booked in the first place. Then they told me that when I checked in I signed an agreement that had the 157 price and I agreed to the new rate. I asked about the 101 charge and they told me it was a cancel charge because we did not call and cancel our room for my mother. We had called and canceled but they double booked my moms room so only one room was canceled and one remained (the 101 charge).

Basically for my nights stay for the Marine Corps Ball I ended up paying 257 dollars for a one nights stay at a hotel that was sub par or equal to what I would rate a motel 6. I am extremely disappointed in this hotel chain, and being our first time and this is our experience we have learned from our mistake and will continue to stay with Mariott just as we always have.

I do not recommend this hotel chain to anyone staying in the...

Checked in on Sunday the 18th. The lady who checked me in was very pleasant and that would be the only reason I didn't give it a 1 or less star not that I could. As of Tuesday no one came to clean room and give me fresh towels. Seen the same lady and requested to be cleaned that day and she put me on the list, and no I didn't have the do not disturb thing on the door but the cleaning people never came. That night I was awakened by what sounded like a full on brawl above me. As soon as I fell asleep I was woken up again by 204 some lady screaming at what sounded like a young girl this woman had told the girl that she was not the mother. I tried to call the front desk but the room phone doesn't give you the option to call front desk. So I went and knocked on the door the woman cussed me out asking who the f..ck I thought I was. I went back to my room being a truck driver and having to be up at 1a.m just to be woke up by Greg telling me that the lady was going to call the cops on me and I advised him to let her. Greg is a poor night time manager went back to desk twice on Wednesday morning to inquire about my room not being cleaned after the second time of trying to get a hold of him I finally screamed his name and he finally came to desk it looked like I woke him up. Today Friday I decided to start packing car. Early just in case Greg was sleeping again. When I went down there was a couple there waiting to check in they said they were there for 30 minutes pounding on the desk and door to check in. That's when Greg walked in about 5 minutes later after they said there peace he asked him what nobody checked you in. I asked him if I could check out and still keep access to my room since I didn't want to play the sleeping game he said I needed my driver's license to do that I told him my wallet was up in the room and that I would be back at 4. Went back at 4 waited at front desk for Greg imagine that!! Yelled his name no response. Then he walked in from the back outside and went in the office where I waited again still no Greg yelled his name again and he came out saying he needed to find the phone before it got turned off. I don't know what that has to do with you putting yourself in front of me. Everywhere you walked in the parking lot smelt like skunk weed. All in all not a pleasant stay nor...
