About a month ago, I booked a suite to spend quality time with my daughter. I had spent weeks away from her due to an illness. I was rather depressed and anxious about having not seen her in so long and had spent the night crying because I had been on alot of medications affecting my moods. Next morning I was fixing breakfast for my fiance, his brother, myself, and my child to take up to the hotel room as they were all sleeping and I wanted to enjoy the suite. I brought a bag to help me not drop the plates of food I was taking up to the room and a big tatted up guy in a chef's hat came out to yell at me for touching the tortillas with my hands as I was carefully counting them out, grabbing from the top without touching the one under it anyway, (besides the point) and he looked at me angrily and asked what room I was even staying in. I had been taking alot of medications and the man was frightening me honestly because his attitude was aggressive and he was already suggesting I didn't stay there and that I was there to steal from the breakfast area. I suffer from post traumatic stress. I've been attacked by an angry man so me coming off so many medications that were neurotoxic, this was really hurting my heart and making me feel so bad. I also have memory problems when I have anxiety attacks. He asked me what room I was staying in and I responded by flashing my room key which I brought without the jacket around it. I told him I didn't remember the room number which was true. He demanded I go to the front desk to see if I was even a guest, which I did, and this was all done in front of a few other clients. I was humiliated for no reason. He was informed that I was a guest there indeed. And you know, by now I am crying real tears as I walk back over to continue making breakfast for my family. And to top it all off he even comes back to where im making a waffle to say he was "sorry he didn't mean to make me feel bad" but that he (and he got a twisted face and an attitude again and said) he "couldn't have me touching the tortillas with my bare hands" just harping on it... So now I'm crying and this guy is continuing on and on about the same nonsense. And I literally had to put my hand up like a stop sign because he was all in my personal space and I had to say "stop I feel like you are just harassing me now" and he finally left me alone to make my breakfast. Ruined my morning. Other than that weird guy, I liked the room and the pool. But I am a local born in Daytona. I am a bartender/server for our local Mexican restaurants. I have training in hospitality and I use it. I get great reviews from my clients where I work and my job is also a difficult trade. It's many hours away from home. The menus I work from are intense. Our expectations of our daily responsibilitys are very high. I just feel as tho in a business setting assuming something to that far off of a point, that you are just certain someone must be stealing, then making false accusations against the clients... That is poor poor poor hospitality. That guy doesn't deserve his opportunity to make eggs in the morning for a living. Real men out there with less opportunity have to sweat in the sun all day for a living and still remain respectful in a work setting or going in and out of public places and dealing with people. This guy didnt really have grounds to assume anything about me. I actually stay in hotels as housing because I travel so much. Expensive lifestyle. Yep. So I could have been a repeat client. I would really appreciate word back from the hotel about their worker who claimed to be the boss when I asked to speak to his boss... Yeah. Not a good look. Get someone else in there. Anyone...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. When I first checked in I checked my room out and discovered a smell coming from the kitchen cabinet. Once I opened the cabinet I discovered a mold loaf of bread that was dated December 26,2021. The bread was 10 weeks old and no one had cleaned it out. I have no idea how it was missed with the smell and it being in plain site when you opened the cabinet. This clearly made me question the cleanliness of the hotel, especially after a global pandemic. To top that off, the front desk lady Francine took my credit card for incidentals but then accidentally charged me almost $2,700. She had no idea how she charged me, but told me it was her managers day off so she’d try and fix it in the morning. After I explained that it had to be canceled immediately because it maxed out my credit card and I was out financially. She proceeded to call me explaining she had no idea how to fix it, which honestly is not my fault. Which I informed her. She later called me to say to say it had been reversed, but even still I was out financially for 3 days as my bank put a hold on my card due to the max out. I asked to be upgraded to a new room after discovering the moldy bread. She told me they had no upgrades that night but the next morning when her manager was in they’d call me, figure out a solution and buy me in an upgraded room. Well the manager never called me that morning. I did receive an email from her that night. Where all she did was give a generic apology and said, “I hope your room meets Marriott standards”. Which sadly it did not. I replied and told Maryetta (the manager) that the room did not meet standards. There was broken furniture, mold on the pillowcases as well as black mold coming from the vents. I informed them again that I’m severely allergic to mold and needed to move. Maryetta never responded to me. I stayed at that hotel for 10 days. In which I contacted corporate and filed a complaint, they told me the manager had 3-5 days to contact me…well a week went by and nothing, no email, phone call..nothing. When I called corporate again to follow up they informed me that the manager Maryetta told them she spoke to me and I refused all forms of compensation that she offered me. That was a straight up lie. I sent corporate my email “chain” between myself and Maryetta, with pictures of the room. Informed them that the only thing I was offered was an upgrade the next day (which didn’t happen) or a $20 credit to the hotel mart (which I turned down due to I cannot eat anything in the mart due to health reasons. Corporate and the management at the hotel has been awful. I finally was given one night free stay, which after the 10 days of hell, does not match up to anything I went through. I will never stay at a...
Read moreThis is a nice hotel overall, very pleasant and friendly, very nice and hospitable staff, great location. However, we spent 5 nights in a 2-bedroom suite where they could not get the air conditioning to work properly. The first night was miserable. The next day they replaced the A/C unit, and initially the room was cool, but that night it heated up and was again sweltering. The next day they replaced the thermostat/sensor, and the room cooled off and we finally got a good night of sleep. The next day was horrible again. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk attendant, she told me that in June and July when it is really hot and humid outside, it is typical for some rooms in the hotel to be 90+ degrees at night, and that it would take several hours for the A/C to cool the room. It never got below 80 degrees, although hallways and common areas were cold. The last night we slept in a different room with functioning A/C, which we appreciated. So, in the end, we got two good nights of sleep over a 5-night stay, and were pleased that they only charged us for those two good nights. Through all of this, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and we did really appreciate their hospitality. Honestly, I think that our experience was highly unusual for this hotel and it was probably an unfortunate cascade of events, many of which were probably out of their control.
Also, in the 1- and 2-bedroom suites, the wall between the dining/living area and the bathroom/bedroom is open at the top, which I have not seen previously in a Residence Inn. Our entire reason for choosing a 2-bedroom suite was so that the adults can be up and awake in the living room talking while kids are asleep in the bedrooms. That is impossible here with a direct opening in the wall. Also odd is that the light switch right inside the main door controls the light over the island plus a light in the open wall area above the bathroom/dining room. If someone comes in and flips the switch, a bright light goes on in one of the bedrooms, which is highly disruptive if someone else is sleeping. The functionality is therefore more like a studio room, yet it has the higher price tag of a 1- or...
