The short version: Dirty, Mediocre, Disappointing.
The long version: Let me start out with the room. Firstly, I walk in and the air quality has significantly decreased. A sudden smell of old furniture, wood, and stuffiness struck my nostrils. The room I booked was a double suite with 2 queen beds. The first queen bed, which was closest to the door, had a giant mysterious substance stain on the bed skirt, yikes. The nightstand next to the bed in question reeked of vinegar and overall was a very unpleasant smell, nothing was placed in that nightstand. The second bed was.. habitable but, there was a giant dent near the A/C that sunk the bed in? No clue. The closet was alright, 3 hangers. There was a single chair/couch placed next to the dresser, upon further inspection I discovered a mustard packet and other mysterious substances uncleaned under the cushion. Every single time we went to plug in one of our devices into the outlets, they fell out. There’s no reasons the outlets should be as loose as they were. The lights were yellow and weren’t very bright as well.
The Bathroom Firstly the positive, water pressure and water temperature were fantastic. No complaints there. The mirror has a steam-proof spot after a hot shower so your reflection is still visible, excellent. Onto the negative, no shower liner. The water sprayed all over the floor, insanely hazardous. There was only full body dry towels, no wash clothes. We had to ask the front desk for some. Not to mention that the toilet got clogged. We placed all dirty towels in a spot for housekeeping to come get them, they never came. We have no idea if housekeeping needed to be requested or not, website did not provide such information. The bathroom complementaries were extremely mediocre. They consisted of drying shampoo and conditioner, and around 3 bars of soap with the generic lotion. No toothbrushes, toothpaste, or wash-clothes(as mentioned previously).
The hallway The hallway leading up to my suite was very dirty and reeked of smoke as well.
The fitness room This “room” was more like a closet and was only able to be occupied by one person at a time. I have no idea how they expect more than one person to be in such a space.
The staircase Words cannot describe how putrid the smell of smoke was in this staircase. The carpet has heavy smoke stains, very unpleasant.
The Lobby/ Breakfast area. Here we go, upon entry we were met with a very appealing modern looking lobby. No complaints with decor but it is strange considering everything in the rooms are old and extremely out-dated. The breakfast area seems nice at first but, as I was making waffles (with the provided waffle mix and waffle maker) I noticed they were very dry, thick, and the “strawberry jam” was extremely unsanitary. It was provided for use in a giant tub for everyone to dunk their forearms into, great.. The standard breakfast was provided but lacked eggs, grits, any meat options, or anything lactose free. As soon as the breakfast ended at 10am, there was a woman taking the cereal station out the breakfast area. Everything was put up and the water was shut off?! They didn’t supply us with water bottles in the fridge or provide any water at the front desk. The waffles were hard to digest. We sat at the table to indulge in this breakfast, the table was shaking and creaking. The juice selection tasted extremely sugary, at that point we should’ve just drank the sugar packets. The muffins also tasted like they were baked with sugar and.. more sugar.
The website I’m guessing what was the previous address and the address they occupy now aren’t linked, My GPS sent me to the wrong hotel twice on google maps and apple maps. Another negative.
Overall for what it gave and what I came here for, Not a bad hotel but wouldn’t stay here long term. We only stayed here to sleep but more cleanliness and sanitation...
Read moreStayed with 2 of my friends and it was a good value for what we needed, however I would like to report things, mostly an in-depth review on the free continental breakfast as that's primarily the reason we chose this location! My 3 star review is primarily -1 Star for the disappointing breakfast selection options and -1 Star for issues with the bathroom in our 2 queen room.
Our room was okay, the bathroom could've been improved as literally the first night our bathroom light refused to work properly , constant flickering. We did report this to the front desk staff who notated it on the room itself but aside from that they didn't seem exactly surprised or eager to jump to make any possible accommodations. The tub tap also kept dripping unless we turned the dial impossibly tight.
+++ For the breakfast, waffle-makers were NOT present. I noticed several of the photos seem to be outdated even on the website, so I took the liberty of snapping photos of the selections so just incase if anyone has any specific dietary restrictions - I wouldn't recommend this hotel. The selections weren't as broad as say the Comfort Inn & Suites next door.
Here is a list of the items that were available during my 3 night stay, keep in mind we attended breakfast around 7AM when the hours are from 6AM - 9AM. Bread: white, cinnamon raisin, wheat (whenever they appear to want to stock it, it was only available the day of check out for us) Plain Bagels Mini Muffins: lemon poppy, blueberry, banana nut (also was a surprise guest on the day of check out) Cereal: off brand fruit loops & corn flakes Drinks: fresh brewed coffee, orange juice, apple juice, cranberry juice, milk Condiments: packaged peanut butter, butter, and cream cheese
Now for my breakdown on the quality of the food!
As I mentioned earlier, NO waffle makers, which was very disappointing since in the older photos they were present.. this was mostly our reason for choosing this hotel.
The juices provided were definitely made with using concentrated pouches from Walmart that you get for dirt cheap and dilute with water. Drinkable but not the most enjoyable, my choice out of all of them was the apple juice as it seemed the most normal. Kept cold though! The milk although it seems to be whole milk as thinner then normal milk, maybe from those room temperature cartons of milk to be shelf stable? My lactose intolerance didn't trigger as it does with whole milk so I'm convinced it was skim milk. I'm allergic to coffee, but my friends seemed to enjoy the selection and acknowledged it was brewed fresh!
Bagels were delicious with cream cheese and toasted (or cold), toast options were really only white or cinnamon raisin, friends said it was pretty standard, hard to hate standard bread..! The muffins were very soft, I would say the lemon poppy ones were my favorite, and notably the other guests favorites too as those were always the first to go, while the blueberry ones in my opinion weren't the tastiest and always left behind. Banana nut was a surprise guest on check out day so during the 3 nights we stayed they were absentee. The cereals I didn't bother touching as in their dispensers they seemed stale, as if they were there for quite some time.
... So the breakfast was essentially either bread or toast, bagels and mini muffins. No proteins. Meanwhile nextdoor at Comfort Inn & Suites, there's eggs, sausages, waffles, cereals, bagels, toast, granola, and mini muffins. Very disappointed in the false advertising on the breakfast selections, especially since if I knew they were lacking so much I would've stayed next...
Read moreBreakfast area Seating area was small and cozy. Tables were not wiped down by staff. You had to wipe down your area prior to sitting and throw away trash and debris left by previous guest. Minimal breakfast selection options available were coffee, tea, juice (cranberry, apple, orange), cereal (cheap off brand Walmart cereal), (no other milk options but whole milk), waffles, toast, bagels, muffins (bananas nut, poppy seed, and blueberry all tasted like baked sugar) there were no eggs or meat options. Strawberry jam topping for waffles was in a giant tub that everyone got to stick their entire hand in to get a small portion to spread on their waffle (very unsanitary and gross). No water bottle available at front desk. Water station in breakfast area was shut down by 10am so no 24-hour access to water available.
Staircase/Hallway Staircase leading to the suite on second floor reeked of cigarette smoke and odors of all past guest within the past twenty years. The Hallway leading to my suite also reeked of cigarette smoke, dingy carpet, and possible mold.
Second floor suite Upon entering my suite, I immediately noticed the poor ventilation and air quality in the room. The room did not have a pleasant odor. It smelled like old dusty vintage furniture that had been in storage for too long. The room was very stuffy, the floors in the room looked like they needed to be swept and mopped. The dust found on the old chipping furniture and debris found between crevices and underneath the seat cushions looked like they have been there for a while. Dresser cabinets were all full of dust. The bed sheets looked very old and disheveled. I found a huge stain on the bed skirt. Although the sheets were not the best quality the bed was comfortable and the blackout curtains in the room were thick enough to limit the amount of light coming into the room. The outlets in the room were very loose which made it difficult to charge our devices. The closet in the room was a nice size and accommodated all of my luggage however, they only provided 4 pathetic hangers to hang your clothes.
Bathroom The bathroom in the suite was clean and the tub was clean as well. The hot water from the shower was phenomenal (the water pressure was perfect). However, the shower was missing a plastic liner which led to excess water falling outside of the tub making it dangerous to shower.
Housekeeping Housekeeping does the bare minimum. I was not provided with adequate towels. I had to request for small facial towels and extra towels the next day. Housekeeping did not come clean our suite our entire stay. There was no mention about the situation with housekeeping. Apparently, you needed to request your room to be cleaned and ask for fresh towels daily. When our toilet overflowed the maintenance staff was very responsive and came right away. Overall, the staff was very nice and spoke English which was a plus. Although the hotel was not a five-star hotel, for planning my trip last minute to Universal the accommodations were descent. It could have been much worse, I could have found multiple critters in my suite according to the other reviews I have read on google. Speaking of google, in order to find the hotel you need to put in the physical address (7531 Canada Ave, Orlando FL 32819) instead of typing the name of the hotel in google maps. If this is not done google maps will send you to an old Wyndham location. Also, the reviews on the hotel website are very misleading ( on hotel website it shows a 4.1/5 star rating). For future hotels stay it is best to review past experiences of guest on...
