In summary, the whole evening was awkward. Quick Disclaimer: $8 parking fee not included with ticket (read the fine print) Call ahead for Jewel access Save Money! Get a Groupon!
Pros: Some of the performers were spectacular! Communal seating made for interesting interactions with other guests. Costumes were stunning (burlesque performers)
Unfortunately that's where the entertainment stopped.
Cons: Food left a lot to be desired. Overpriced Drinks. ($7 per beer bottle, $13 mixed drinks) No new silverware between courses. Uncoordinated table service. Entire audience was asked to interact. Seating was too closely spaced. Parking Fee (sometimes) Child level humor in an adult show Jewel staff was unhelpful to visibly confused patrons. No dueling pianos at the "dueling piano" speakeasy
Long Version: We had been to the pirates show twice, even got engaged there, and expected a lot for the "adults only" experience. It seems the Cirque Magique was re-branded as a burlesque show to Teatro Martini. Same performers, similar acts, different costumes. Our night was supposed to be a stress free escape from life but our evening became an awkward and confused mess with mediocre food and puzzling staff and performances.
First Impression: Initially our arrival was nice as our parking seemed to be covered by our ticket when checking in, but later the parking gates wouldn't read the cards provided. For a performance lounge we expected group seating but a lot of the seating was placed so that patrons needed to turn backwards to see the show. Also the seating was very closely spaced with arching high back chairs resulting into a lot of bumping into neighboring patrons.
Service: Upon arrival of our server he took our drink orders, then shortly after we were served salads when we had ordered bisque, minutes later another server tried giving us salad AGAIN, sending them back the earlier patrons said that made three total attempts to push a wrong order on the table. Having been in the service industry we stacked our bowls and silverware together to help the server, but when they came to pick them up we were told to keep our spoons for dinner. At the end of the main course we stacked our plates again and they took it all. Then dessert came, without forks. We had to use the spoons from unused seats at our table which were not enough to go around.
Food: The food itself was not hot, but lukewarm at best, clearly prepared in masse at least an hour before the show. Bisque was okay, Pork was dry with very bland gravy, mashed potatoes were just that, veggies were okay. Brownie was caked with powered sugar and filled with chocolate chunk, I liked it but many didn't.
Show: The show itself was a mix of acrobatics (great), swing renditions of modern pop songs (good but needs better choreography), trained dog act (surprising+cute), mime act (good but drawn out (time filler?)), and a slapstick side show geared more for kids with raunchy humor tossed in. Audience interaction was expected for a lot of the show but was poorly delivered leaving awkward pauses and drawn out acts. It appears the side show is a holdover from the Cirque performance that never really got written out so was shoehorned into the new theme. This resulted in a mix of childish bathroom humor in an adult show. The venue doesn't seem to know how to cater to an adult audience.
Jewel "Dueling Piano" speakeasy: The Jewel bar and lounge was an unexpected part of the evening after the show with access included in the show ticket price. The staff put on an act typical of a prohibition era speakeasy. When we tried entering (at the wrong entrance across from the restrooms) we were told to enter from the showroom. There we were asked for a password to enter (which we were not provided) and we were visibly confused. Staff kept asking for a password that clearly we had not been provided and allowed entry after a minute of asking and confusion. There were pianos but no players, and fake gambling for charity, but that was all. Disappointed we left very confused...
Read moreMy husband decided to take me here for my birthday. When he made the reservations one customer service rep told him to be there at 6 PM if you want to see the preshow if not be there at 8:30. When he called back in to ask a question the customer service rep said be there at 8:30. Didn’t say anything about a preshow so he was confused so we showed up at 6:30. Once we arrived, we were greeted by a customer service rep. She gave us our ticket and told us what to say to be able to get through the speakeasy door. Once we enter the speakeasy, there were many staff members willing to help. We ordered our drinks.( which were the same price anywhere you go in Orlando) which I had a martini and my husband got a beer. While we’re sitting in the speakeasy, they were poker table that you could play for find in the money goes to charity which I thought was Awesome! I’m out after 15 minutes we were there two gentlemen did a Dooley off the pianos, which was amazing. They took request and they played while we waited for the night show to start taking guest when it was time for the burlesque show to start one of the staff members told me how to get through the bookshelf, which I thought was cool. Once we entered the burlesque room the lady showed us to our table, which we were very disappointed because we were sharing a table with somebody else, and was not informed of this. Once seated, we waited about 35 minutes before any staff member came and asked us if you’d like anything to drink, but they brought us a salad which was just ok. We asked the people sitting at our table if they had a certain weight or a waiter and I said no but it’s taking a little bit of time for them to get a drink or their meal. The show has started so we were trying to focus on the show because that’s what we paid for. Finally after 45 minutes past my husband said something to staff member that we have not received a drink or a meal. The manager came over and stated that she was sorry and she would give us half off on our drinks. I really didn’t want to drink. I just wanted my meal and I wanted to leave. A few minutes later we saw Benji, which was a lady we saw the night before at Universal Studios Halloween horror nights and she did amazing job at Universal, and at this burlesque show. So we decided to stay. I thought the show was amazing. I don’t recommend seeing the show unless she is in it because you don’t get your moneys worth but I will tell you the piano men wear amazing so if you just want to get drinks and go to a speakeasy that’s the place to go, but I would not recommend the burlesque show and less Bengi in it. I understand the wait staff does preform a few minutes here and there but others should be assisting their guest. It felt like no one wanted to work last with wait staff. If I were to rate bengi and the piano men it would be 10 stars! Everyone...
Read moreI was so excited to see this show and have a great date night. I bought a groupon to come here as we live in Melbourne and thought this would be fun. Between the groupon, parking, and service charge, we had already spent $95 before walking in the door. I read so many great reviews and had very high hopes. As we checked in, I made reservations a week in advance, as instructed. They could not find my reservation. We were seated in the back, with a great view of the bar and one of the waiter's girlfriends at a table next to us. As we watched others getting sat and drinks steadily flowing from the bar, we still sat with no drink order taken. Thankfully, the bartender, Nicholas, noticed we did not have drinks and sent 'Sapphire' over to get us some drinks. We watched as Nicholas hurriedly went to the hostess stand to try and get us a server. That was his first trip there. That was the first and last time a server approached our table. My boyfriend, who had just had knee surgery, hobbled up to the bar to get refills. As soups start coming out, Nicholas noticed we STILL had no server. He once again, came out from behind the bar to serve us. Trip #2 to the hostess stand. Still no server. Salads came out. Once again, Nicholas, came from behind the bar to serve us. Trip #3 to the hostess stand went Nicholas. We watched as all the waitresses made eye contact with us, yet not one of them stopped to help. Especially the girl in the green costume with long blonde hair who was serving the tables all around us. From our excellent view of the bar, we watched as Nicholas asked her to help us and she looked at us and mouthed the words NOT MY TABLE. So after salads had been served, our entree order was NEVER taken. Nicholas, once again, reacted swiftly and got our orders and promptly brought them to our table. After he alerted the manager to our situation, the manager told Nicholas to offer us a drink on the house. I declined and would rather pay as I was livid at this point that the manager was busy handing out entrees rather than even visit our table. I was so angry I couldn't eat. I worked in a restaurant for 16 years, held every position, including a service manager! Appalled he hadn't come to us, Nicholas got him to come to our table finally. I was almost in tears from anger explaining to the manager the situation where NONE of your waitstaff wanted to serve us! He apologized and offered a return trip on him to sit in VIP. If it weren't for Nicholas, we would have walked out. We most definitely will not take the manager up on his offer after being ignored by his waitstaff repeatedly after being brought to their attention! We didn't see most of the show as we were too busy looking to see if our situation would ever be rectified. So disappointed in the waitstaff. The waiter's girlfriend sitting beside us got better service and she was...
