We just got back from 2 weeks at the Rosen Inn at Pointe. So many people seem to speak glowingly of it, but that was far from our experience.
The rooms were not clean. The carpets are dirty, the edges of the rooms are disgusting, and we had clumps of other people's hair left under the bed. Mirrors were smeary. Marks all over the TV screen. Mould on the wall panels under the window by the door. Stains on the desk chair. Stains on the armchair. Dust all over surfaces.
All the furnishings are very old. This isn't a massive issue, but we struggled to get our drawers to close and stay closed.
The road noise from the I4 is astonishingly loud.
The air conditioning units are also astonishingly loud.
The cleaners do not change your sheets (or vacuum the carpet) the whole time unless you specifically ask (we found this out due to an incident later in this list). The sheets in our second room didn't even cover the mattress properly (left about 8 inches exposed at the foot of the bed).
The hotel was really noisy, with people playing music and talking on phones on the walkways into the early hours.
I wouldn't have believed it (it has been mentioned elsewhere and we found the truth of this out): if you annoy the housekeepers they set your alarm to 6am. This is despite leaving a $3 tip every day. The day we had our alarm set was a day the cleaner had to come back because we hadn't left yet.
Strong smells of weed from lots of the rooms as you pass. Not sure why this seems to be permitted.
We had a bedbug in my bed and the staff didn't seem to give two hoots. No apology. When I told reception the lady didn't even speak to me, just lifted the phone and spoke to someone else, and just seemed put out! Only the manager seemed to have any ability to interact properly. We got given another room but were offered no assistance in helping to move our stuff. As you can imagine this was massive aggro while we were away. Of course bed bug incidents can happen anywhere, and the bug could have even come in during housekeeping, but it's not so much the fact there was a bedbug, but more the totally blasé way it was dealt with. They did apparently conduct a search of our old room and couldn't find any others, which was a relief because it means they were less likely to be in our clothes, suitcases etc, but the bites all over my back sure show that one bug had a proper feast that night!
Customer service skills are nonexistent. Prepare to be treated brusquely and partially ignored at the check in desk. I can honestly say it was the worst degree of welcome or general friendliness I've experienced at a hotel ever. It's like your being checked in a prison. I can only assume they're all ex post office workers. One time (the bed big issue) I was just left standing there in front of the woman thinking she was still working on my problem, but she had just ended our conversation and was typing away doing something else while I stood there. After a while I asked if she was still working on my problem and she said no. Literally left standing there without even any acknowledgement the conversation was over. Incredible.
Reception has 6 terminals but only one (or two if you're lucky) is manned at any point resulting in long queues.
One day (some time after our room had already been done) a housekeeper burst into our room without knocking while I was in a partial state of undress and kept saying "kimmiko sway" over and over whilst looking around. I got her to repeat it about 10 times because I didn't understand what she was saying and what was happening. After a while looking around she left. I can only presume she had left something in our room, but it was extremely strange and we found it really unsettling.
I will admit that the location, mini fridge, microwave, and abundant and free parking are all plus points. The breakfast is also quite good. but unfortunately these plus points are drastically outweighed by the bad ones. You can kind of tell this was a pretty good place years ago, but it really does not seem...

We stayed here for two weeks, my partner and I in one room, my mother in another, with siblings. When we first arrived, the rooms were a little dated but comfortable, and we didn’t mind that at all.
Unfortunately, we had several issues during our stay. My mother had to change rooms early on and was moved right beside mine because flying ants and regular ants had taken over her original room and bed. Her new room seemed fine at first, but eventually, both her room and mine ended up with flying ants. In my case, I had to request a full clean and bed sheet change because there were ants in the bed when we pulled back the covers.
The room doors have a large gap at the bottom, which may explain why ants were able to get inside. It’s also possible the AC vents aren’t properly secured from the outside.
Cleaning service was inconsistent. My room were cleaned a good few times during the stay but missed a good couple times but my mother’s room was repeatedly missed which made no sense, as she was always out with us during cleaning times. Her room was right before mine in the hallway, yet cleaners would often go into my room and skip hers entirely. The cleaners came around twice a day, but even without the “Do Not Disturb” sign up, they sometimes didn’t go in at all. We often had to hand our rubbish directly to the cleaners or place it in the bins near the elevators. When we saw cleaners, we would ask for fresh towels and take toilet roll and tissues ourselves because they hadn’t been replenished. On some days, bins weren’t emptied, beds weren’t made, and no dusting or surface cleaning was done.
We spoke to reception in person and by phoning down about the ant problem several times. Each time, we were told someone would come to clean in the morning but often, no one came. The issue kept returning. One night, cleaners did come to change sheets, hoover, and deal with the ants because I couldn’t move rooms. I had to complain and ring twice before they arrived, but I did appreciate their help that evening. They also told me to put a towel down on the inside of the room to block the door as it might help stop ants coming in. Also the smell of weed was very overpowering in the room as there is numerous people openly smoking it in front of the hotel beside the front doors and in the sit down area by the lite bite shop staff are oblivious to it or ignoring it but my mum was not impressed nor were other parents having to get children to walk by it/them again staff do not care nor do security. With all this going on this is NOT a family friendly hotel when staff can’t stop this. Nor is it safe.
We also ate at the Zebra Bar inside the hotel. We had food there twice and drinks occasionally. At first, the food seemed fine, but on one visit I ordered chicken wings. I’m a picky eater, especially with chicken, and I always check it’s cooked through. The first two wings were fine, but the third was pink inside. I returned it and, as my appetite was gone, I just got two drinks instead. Another night, my aunt ordered a beef burger well done. It looked cooked on the outside, but when she bit into it, it was raw inside. When the bun was opened, the juices had turned the bread red. It was sent back and replaced with a properly cooked burger. The staff at the Zebra Bar were excellent, very apologetic, and helpful — but after two incidents, we decided not to eat there again, although we did return for drinks on other nights as the bar staff were great.
The location is convenient for theme parks etc but for price paid it is not enough to say when you do not feel comfortable or safe with everything that goes on when staff can’t listen to your concerns our first impression was good, but the ant infestations, door gaps, strange cleaning inconsistencies with my mother’s room, and food, safety & cleaning issues made our stay...
