We enjoyed the Friday Night Street Fair nearby and loved the live band in the ballroom. Cocktails and dancing made for a really fun evening. We originally booked through a third-party platform, and prior to arrival, my husband called to ask about the Moonraker room... the one Bill Murray had previously stayed in. The staff member told us we were all set and that she was holding it for us. At no point did she clarify that our reservation was actually for a different room type. So it came as a surprise when we checked in and were not placed in the Moonraker room but rather a queen room with no TV. This was not the room we had been led to believe was waiting for us. Our travel companions received both email and text confirmations, but we didn’t receive anything. I called the night before check in just to verify, fully expecting we were confirmed for the Moonraker room based on that conversation. After our stay, I spoke with the owner directly and truly appreciated how she listened and took the time to make things right. She kindly offered us a future stay in the Moonraker room at a discounted rate, which was incredibly generous and shows she values her guests. One thing I’ve since learned is that booking through third-party platforms can sometimes lead to miscommunications like this. It also takes a significant cut from small local businesses. If you’re considering staying at this historic boutique hotel in Eureka, I highly recommend booking directly with the property. It helps avoid confusion and better supports the people behind the stay. The staff was friendly and the location is fantastic, but a simple clarification during that first call would have gone a long way in managing expectations. That said, the owner’s follow-up left a lasting impression.

Eureka's Victorian soul shines through at the Inn at 2nd & C. This charming inn, a Eureka landmark, is steeped in history and offers a unique blend of comfort and quirky elegance. Sure, the floors might creak a bit and there's a bit of a subtle, musky quality to the air, a hint of the house's long and intriguing history, all part of its charm. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We were greeted with a genuine smile, and, throughout our stay, they were attentive and helpful. Our room was clean and spacious, and we imagined we were in a cozy Victorian sleep haven. The antique carved furniture was beautiful and sturdy, and all the details were genuine touches. The bathroom was spacious except for the shower, very tight and in need of an upgrade. The breakfast room, next to the check-in desk, was charming with plush blue sofas and antique furniture, featuring a giant painting of a majestic cat. The location is superb. We loved to walk to the waterfront nearby, and around the Old Town District to look at all the lovingly restored buildings housing charming stores, vintage boutiques, bookstores, and restaurants. The Inn also has two restaurants, but we ended up not trying them. My kids loved to explore the Inn and discovered a comfortable room to play card games on the top floor with delightful surrounding views of Eureka. Overall, the feeling of this Inn is one of comfort and a touch of history. Everything whispers of a slower pace, inviting you to relax, unwind after a day of adventure, and indulge in a night of restful sleep in a bygone era.

I chose this inn for its unique charm for my family vacation. We had a mixture of hotels, and airbnbs on our ten day Northern California tour, and I wanted to take advantage of the bed and breakfast feel. Unfortunately, my planning on our trip landed us at the inn during Thanksgiving and we didn’t get to enjoy the ambiance of the events, dining or many people around the inn during our stay. Nonetheless, Victoria at the desk, was exceptional upon our arrival and gave us phenomenal recommendations for the area in regards to dining and entertainment. We did not utilize housekeeping during our stay as it was the holiday, but the King suite was well stocked. I absolutely adored the hauntingly dark charm of this inn, and I feel the owners have mixed old and new very well. The only thing I would say as a few others have stated is the evening noise is loud outside the windows. We were on the third floor and had our windows cracked because the room was warmer than we like, and there were unhoused people shouting throughout the night. The second night, we put in ear plugs and background white noise and it helped. On another note, in the King suite, the bed, pullout couch, and pillows were very comfy. We would definitely recommend staying here for the unique flavor it offers.

Very rude reception staff (young woman at noon yesterday) who would not let me enter the (locked)building/lobby and called me a liar when I was attempting to give guest information in order to visit my grandmother who was staying at the building and expecting me to visit. This made my grandmother come down from her 3rd floor room to the street outside to see me after she had to leave a phone call we had been on prior due to the rude and physical interruption of the staff member to me. The staff member (without saying a thing) literally grabbed the door away from me and closed it and then stood in front of me to block the doorway right when I attempted to enter the lobby and then politely stated I was here to visit my grandma who was a guest after that staff member had gone out the locked front lobby door. After the staff member repeadtly denied my attempts to give my grandmother's room information I walked away and then waited on the street outside for my grandma after having having to call her back and inform her I was not going to be let in by the staff member who just went back inside the lobby as I called from the street. I don't know too many hotels that would lock the lobby at noon and then physically scare away local (Eureka) visitors that attempt to give guest information and visit.

Local homeless population crowds around the hotel all day and makes a lot of loud activity on the nearby streets which could explain the extra security and hostile front staff.

Also as a person of color (the very rude staff was Caucasian) I feel the rudeness and hostility I was unpromptly and immediately treated with could possibly have been racially motivated, or not. If racism was not involved it is still sad that this brief experience with this business left me uncomfortable and feeling perseucuted for attempting to kindly visit my own grandmother who was made to go out of her way to see me by the unprofessional actions of the staff. I have never felt so offended or have been treated so rudely (not even let in the front door and then turned away) by a place of business...

If you’re looking for a quiet, safe location to stay avoid this hotel. We were booked for a 3 night stay and left after 1 night. Starting at midnight, a seemingly drugged out man started screaming. Our room was on the 2nd floor, but it was as if the guy was standing outside our windows. The same guy started up again at 1 or 1:30, then a couple were screaming at each other around 3. Impossible to sleep through all that noise. We asked for some relief on our already paid fees, but the manager said no. Too bad - could be a nice place to stay, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

The owner’s response to my review deserves further comments. Yes, other rooms were offered. We were told there are 2 “inside rooms” that are smaller with queen beds. We paid $250 per night for a larger room with a king bed. No price change was offered for a move to a smaller room. 1 king bed room on the same floor was offered. It was a corner room with “less” street exposure. No price change was offered. As for the owner’s somewhat condescending remarks regarding the homeless population, I think it says something about how they treat their guests. I am a very experienced traveler. I have stayed over 100 nights in Manhattan NY, Chicago in the Loop, San Francisco, DC, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, St. Louis, LA, and many more smaller cities - all with homelessness challenges. None of those stays included unchecked homeless people screaming outside my hotel room after midnight. My review wasn’t being judgmental of the people screaming outside my room. I was judging the lack of response to the screaming by the hotel operator and or the police. And to write these people are mostly harmless seems to ignore Eureka has one of the highest property crimes rates in the state, some of which have according to reviews occurred in the hotel parking lot. Finally, while I appreciate the owner’s offer for us to come back for 2 free nights, why would I? To be kept awake late at night by the same? We moved to an AirBnB up the road near Trinidad. Very quiet. Very comfortable. Same...

A truly lovely, somewhat ( in a great way) funky, delightful inn! Envision walking into your great grandmother’s Victorian parlor 150 years ago. The staff is attentive. The rooms clean, the beds wonderfully comfortable. The adjacent restaurant is simple superb. The decor, the candles, the waitstaff’s turn-of-century outfits ( think 1905)— so fun! And the food… Start with cocktails. Delicious—Authentic hand made creations that make you feel as if you’ve spun back in time to Paris in the Belle Epoch. Trust your server to recommend the perfect appetizer to go with your cocktail. Dietary restriction? No problem. They’ve got it covered. Our choice of entree? The duck confit. Every bit as delicious as one we had in a Michelin star restaurant in Manhattan. For dessert—the test. Crème Brûlée. Seriously? Seriously. Most any chef can whip up a decent Brûlée. This one knocked my socks off. It took three spoonfuls to figure out that subtle superb flavor. Citrus. But not quite… Citrus can curdle custards. And zest can be bitter. Stymied, the chef solved the mystery. Kumquat zest. Simply wow. A lovely aperitif, and off to the quiet comfort of our room. Sometimes the hotel offers live music and dancing. But tonight it was quiet. We slept the sleep of the dead. If you are looking for a fun place that is most definitely not a run-of-the-mill highway motel, this is it. Yes, it is old. Very. There is no central heating or air. But each room has a very modern quiet space heater ( worked like a charm on this 42F night), or fans for the summer. And it’s right by the homeless shelter. Our car was full of expensive camping gear, Thule box and cases of wine. We needn’t have worried. The staff has security covered, too. If you want a cookie-cutter motel off the interstate, this place is not for you. If you want something fun, funky, and delightfully different—this is it. The only nearby ( sort of) place I like better is the Benbow Inn. Now there is perfection! But this inn is right up there in ‘delightful’. Bon appetite,...
