We booked the entire house for a family getaway and Jacqueline and her team could not have been kinder or more on top of things for us.
They work very hard to create a historically accurate, gorgeous Victorian retreat for their guests and it shows. The ongoing house restoration and installation choices are pretty much flawless, with a few works in progress to be expected; the backyard was under construction during our weekend stay but we didn't really notice. Everything is well put together, clean and works perfectly (wifi all good). The lovely hospitality touches like stocked bathrooms, snacks and fridge goodies were so appreciated and made everyone feel right at home.
Couple of notes: this is not your average airbnb or hotel stay. The house and much of the furnishings are architecturally significant so they ask for no food outside the kitchen, it's a big kitchen but in a Victorian, it's in the back of the house. Understandable that they need to preserve the high quality of the interiors but in a big group setting this turned out to be harder than expected as we normally lounge around with snacks, pizza with movies etc. Also, none of the rooms have en suite baths. We had grown adults, no kids along and no other guests so we had no issues, but noting for others because these are good to know in advance and I would only bring well behaved people (of any age) who can enjoy/respect the historic quirks and still have a great time.
Eureka was the perfect home base for our Redwoods adventure and we can't wait to stay at the...
Read moreWhen leaving a review, I like to take into consideration what I hold valuable. I value unique lodging versus typical hotel motel with such a white pallet and magazine feel. The Pinc lady mansion is worth a visit, it’s extraordinary. Victorian era built mansion from 1889. It’s in the heart of Eureka, California. I had the opportunity to stay in the room which faces the Carlson mansion, and basic terms the inspiration for Walt Disney‘s haunted mansion. The lodging was in walking distance of multiple dining and bar options, near the water and public transportation was available to seek more adventures further than one wanting to walk. We booked this lodging last moment, within less than two hours of arrival. Jacqueline greeted us at check-in at 4 PM and even offered us a historic tour of the beautiful mansion. We were offered views of the living quarters available, the dining room, the kitchen and she shared about the Carlson mansion “Ingomar Club” across the street too. Currently the backyard was under renovations, but we sneaked a peek through the fence and once it’s completed, it will be breathtakingly beautiful for any scheduled events at this location. Our lodging included parking spot out front of the mansion, and it was reasonably priced. I would book this location again or I would recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in Eureka, California or just...
Read moreThe Pink Lady is one of our finest Victorian Homes ever built in Eureka. Inside and out it is Beautiful, Elegant, Stunning and Classic. Built by William Carson as a wedding gift for his son and daughter in law. The Pink Lady sits across the street, facing The Carson Mansion built for William Carson, successful lumber baron of Eureka in the late 1800s and his wife.
The Pink Lady has been restored to its original elegance. It has beautiful original stained glass windows. There is original hand crafted and carved wood work throughout the house. This home has several fireplaces and crystal chandlers. A stunning staircase leads you upstairs to 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The downstairs has a foyer, parlor, formal sitting/living room, formal dining room, butlers pantry, kitchen, breakfast nook, covered sunroom and back porch with stairs leading down to a lower level of semi finished rooms. The house is nicely decorated and furnished with period furniture and decor. Many rooms have wall paper that was replicated from original samples. It has a well maintained side yard boasting with trees, ferns, plants and many flowers. There is also a back courtyard and garage that I was not able to tour.
This home has been a bed and breakfast but was just recently sold to a private owner. I'm thankful I had a chance to tour this historic home before it becomes a private...
