I'm new to the area in a temporary assignment. Asking members of the community I was provided Carter House and the restaurant as a possible location for the holiday festivities. I'm disappointed as I've tried twice to book Thanksgiving reservations. I dropped in around Nov 1 inquiring about the restaurant being open. I was informed politely that the menu was not yet available and the menu would be posted on-line. I returned this past Saturday and patronized the bar for a glass of wine. Overhearing a conversation from the bartender, I understood that reservations were less than half in prior years.
Upon departing, I inquired about the Thanksgiving menu and the "server/ host" clearly directed me to the website. I may be blind, but I am unable to locate a holiday menu, much less the price. When attempting to book a reservation, I'm asked to provide payment. I don't know the cost, and I don't know the menu (hearsay states it is $85) I followed up sending an email with my inquiry. I've not heard back.
I'm not surprised by the bartender comments of how the Thanksgiving business reservations are down. Help me understand, as a potential client, I've now been rejected 3 times- would you continue to seek out a reservation at a perceived fine dining establishment. Very...
Read moreWife and I ate here twice on two different weekends. Loved the crab cakes and cheese platter the first time, but scallops and rock cod were over peppered, and we like pepper.
Came back next weekend on a comp, which was a very nice gesture, but crab cakes were different and not nearly as good. Cheese platter was different, but still good. Coconut and carrot soup was very spicy. Wife could not eat it. We asked if we could get a less spicy soup and we received a coconut curry soup with no carrot in it.
For entree, I had the short rib which was very, very fatty. Too much fat for me. Wife ordered scallops again but received the"special", which was not great and not what we ordered. They corrected this quickly, but scallops were over peppered to the point of ridiculousness.
On to dessert, chocolate torte... For me, the top layer was good, but the bottom layer texture was waxy and I did not care for it one bit. My wife thought it was good, though.
The breakfast pastries were some of the best I have ever had, so I am giving an extra star for that.
In summary, if you like inconsistent, overly black peppered, and spicy food, you may like this restaurant...I cannot recommend to anyone.
Very disappointed, and really wanted to like...
Read moreWent here for my first time for burger week. I ordered "to go" and had to wait for 30 minutes just to talk to someone. No one acknowledged me and I finally got the attention of a waiter. When I asked him if he can check to see if my burger's ready, he said he couldn't help me and the bartender has to check. I asked someone else if they could ring me up and again was told only the bartender can do that. The bar was full and she was busy. When I finally stood in the way of the bartender and asked her, she pulled a napkin off the counter and said she forgot to put my order in and asked me if I would like to wait another 30 minutes. I ended up leaving hungry and angry. The rudeness was appalling. The 2 people behind me were also complaining about the rude staff and the fact that there is only one person that is allowed to take orders and money. I ended up going to 511 and met a girl there that had the exact same experience I did earlier in the day. I also talked to 2 other people that went in there the same week and were ignored and spoken to rudely. They ended up leaving hungry after a 30 minute wait. The fact that I talked to 7 people and they all complained means I will not be returning here. They said...
