The L Motel was a very disappointing visit. We are usually not picky about where we stay for Motels, so when we looked up the L Motel, it had a lot of good reviews, so we decided to go with it. However, once we arrived, it was very questionable.
The first thing we noticed was the A/C unit. It wasn't near the window like most other places. It was in the back of the room. This would not have been so bad, except that the one of the knobs was missing from the unit. When I initially turned it on, it didn’t work, only the fan did. I had to take off one of the knobs and slide it into the other knob slot to make the temperature cooler. This made it work. However, when I was sleeping, it would make a loud cracking noise whenever it turned on for about 30 seconds that periodically woke us up throughout the night.
When it was cold, we tried the heater. It did not work at all. We set it all the way to 80 degrees (It was 45 outside), and nothing turned on. So we just huddled under the blankets to keep warm.
When it became dark, we decided to turn on the lamps and noticed something. One of the lamp switches had broken off. The only way to turn on the lamp was to plug it in. The other lamp worked fine. However, the lamp shade looked damaged. This wasn't really that big a deal. A lamp is a lamp. Nonetheless though, in a motel, you expect all the electronics to work properly and look somewhat decent.
Speaking of electrical. The coax cable for the TV was exposed and was just simply hanging out of the wall. Not very aesthetically appealing, nor up to the code I would think. Also, the microwave was plugged into the same outlet the TV was. This isn't really a big deal. This was probably due to the lack of outlets in the room. It was hidden into the trim of the carpet on the wall, so at least they tried to hide that. The outlet in the bathroom was also interesting, it looked more industrial.
Speaking of the bathroom, let’s get started on that. The first noticeable thing about the bathroom was that the toilet paper roll wheel was broken from the wall. So you had to hold onto the roll to unroll it. Again, this was a minor inconvenience. But the way the bathroom was arranged; the most convenient place to put the toilet paper was on the floor. We later found the (broken) toilet paper holder in the bathroom cabinet.
When one of us decided to take a shower, we found something interesting. When we turned on the shower, my wife was sprayed in the face by water from the shower nozzle. One of the gaskets had popped out from the showerhead and sprayed water to the side. We rotated the showerhead to hit the shower wall so it wouldn’t make the bathroom floor all wet. Also, the part of the showerhead that was attached to the wall leaked too. We couldn’t rotate it of course, so we had to put a hand towel on top to prevent it from spraying on the bathroom floor.
The shower pressure and heat was somewhat random. Sometimes it’d be hot, then warm. The water pressure would be hard, then soft. The shower also got ice cold if the toilet was flushed, just like the movies!
The bathroom door was also broken. It wouldn’t latch and was stuck turned. You could lock the door, but all you’d have to do is push the door to open it.
Those were our main complaints about the place. We’re not sure if we got bad luck with getting a room (we had room 121 in case anyone was curious), or if they were all like that. For us though, this was our first and last experience at the L Motel.
Some good things about the L Motel had a fridge and microwave. The bed was comfortable, the TV was newish, and had cable. The place also had free “High Speed” Internet, a...
Read moreThe room was dirty with broken floor tiles, cracked sink, cracked windows & damaged walls. The website features images of rooms that are not at all at this establishment. The room was without a small table or desk. Nor did it have even one chair in the room. The room was miserably uncomfortable as the only alternative to standing was the beds. Uncool. The mini fridge was too small to accommodate even a soda can & it was missing the side rails intended to secure items on the door shelves. It was as useful as not having a fridge at all. Also, the owners are so cheap they don't even store extra bedding in the room the way a respectable establishment always does.. It was very cold the night I spent here, the heater does not warm the room efficiently & the bedclothes basically consist of a fitted sheet, two flat sheets & 4 pitiful excuses for pillows. The bedding is uncomfortable & offers no warmth whatsoever. On top of all this, the owner reserved us a room with one king bed despite being told we were two adults & a child. This made me aware he lacks any ability to listen to potential guests, let alone any desire to accommodate & see to the needs & comfort of his guests. There was, after all, a room available with 3 beds(would've been perfect for a family with a child. Right? ) However, he took it upon himself to decide a small room with one king sized bed would be the appropriate room for us without even asking if we would prefer the larger room. The next morning the staff attempted to rush us out two hours prior to check out time just because they saw me walk out to the car for something. The location of this establishment is very close to NAU. My assumption is the owners think the convenience of their hotel's close proximity to the university is so highly desirable that that, in itself, is enough. I feel like they think guests should be so beside themselves with gratitude for being so close to NAU that they don't need to offer adequate lodging or any semblance of quality customer service skills. Please, let me assure you, motels near the campus in downtown Flagstaff are in abundance. You can do so much better than the L Motel & you owe yourself better. Flagstaff is a beautiful city. Do yourself a favor & make sure your accommodations are comfortable & uphold an acceptable...
Read moreThe owner was prompt with greeting me at the front desk with a warm welcome and smile, a quality hard to find in travel. He gave me a great rate for the night and the transaction was very quick! Before I left the office, he gave me instructions for Wi-Fi and nearby amenities and I felt like my needs were completely met! The room was beyond my expectations! Taking me by surprise, it was more spacious than I had expected. The cleanliness was excellent and the environment was quiet. I did not hear the sounds of traffic throughout the night, the other quests were very quiet, and there weren’t any issues with people coming around to the property. The temperature in the room was fully adjustable to the guest’s liking with a FUNCTIONING thermostat (one of the biggest issues I’ve run into while traveling is a broken thermo or AC), the refrigerator provided a generous amount of storage space, and the microwave was spotless! In review, I was 150% satisfied with my stay and service at the L Motel. I felt safe, the price was VERY affordable for downtown Flagstaff, and it was a brisk walk from convenience stores, NAU, and a short trip to shopping options. The cleanliness and customer service is superb and reminded me of “the good ole days”.
A huge thank you and appreciation to the owner of the L Motel for the room, the rates, and the kindness, even at checkout, because after being out in the snow all day, it was warming to see there’s still great people willing to spread their kindness through their work and go the extra mile for their customers. A 10/10 experience, the L Motel is being recommended to my friends, family, and anyone else I know who may need accommodations in flagstaff, and I hope you will give them a try,...
