Hualapi River Runners were the guides for my 2 day 1 night trip white water rafting in the Grand Canyon. Randy, Amber, Leonard, & Louis were the team of incredible guides that were able to take 2 raft loads of people of varying skill levels, down a 2 day river adventure of a lifetime! They were such a great team together! They were kind, caring, humorous, interesting, informative, experienced leaders! They were able to turn all of us into a part of "THE" team & that's what we were the entire trip, one big team! The rapids part of the trip was challenging but not in a frightening way, I knew I was in safe & capable hands with our guides. All of our stops for hiking/munching & lunching & cooling off in the water were very well organized. They worked together to get our lunch of cold-cuts with condiments, fruit, chips, & plenty of liquids set up in short time. During a couple "float" moments we were able to see some Big Horn Sheep & the "centennial plant" was in bloom (only happens 1 time in 100 years). When we reached our overnight camping stop the crew organized all of us into a "fire line" to unload everyone's supplies easily & efficiently, & while we all put our tents up & readied our camping spot for the night the guides were setting up, preparing, & cooking our wonderful meal of charcoal grilled steaks, homemade mashed potatoes, salad, grilled corn on the cob, & lemon bars for dessert! There was a large assortment of liquids to choose from as well & the food & drinks provided were in over abundance, nobody went hungry or thirsty!! We had a wonderful social circle that evening & watched the stars make their bright appearance after dark. Our breakfast was as delicious as the dinner the night before! Our second day on the river was extremely relaxing & the stops were again planned & executed wonderfully. There was a wonderful walk into Surprise Canyon where we quizzed Leonard on his rock identifying experience.....he impressed us with his knowledge of the Canyon, it's geological elements, political issues, the history of the first explorers, etc. watching the Canyon walls slowly changing shape & looking at the Canyon from that whole new perspective on bottom looking up. When we docked at the end of our trip, there were plenty of hugs & well wishes from everyone there! The last leg of the trip was the helicopter ride. The crew that checked us in for that & the pilot were the last people that we encountered & they were all just as wonderful. this is one of those epic once in a lifetime experiences, & this company excelled at providing top notch...
Read moreI would give this trip a 10 star rating!!! Dave was the team leader and I cannot say enough about him and the team. Their first priority is your safety, followed by your comfort. The team was extremely well organized and prepared for anything. Dave was incredibly informative about history, geology, folklore. There was more than plenty of food and beverages throughout the entire trip. We went the first weekend in May, two boats, 9 vacationers in the group and we had the entire canyon to ourselves!!! We saw one day boat pass us on the first day and only one other day boat pass us the second day. We were told that in July they are very busy and the boats are lined up at some of the stopping places and so our experience was much more intimate and almost religious. This was our first time (we are city slickers) and we followed the tips provided by Rivers and Oceans which were very helpful. OUR TIP: You will not be able to access your belongings from the time they are first loaded onto the boats until you get to camp at the end of the first day and again from the morning of the next day until the trip is over. We recommend a small dry bag with a carabiner clip that you can clip on the inside of the boat. This bag should contain what you might need during the day when you won't have access to your stuff (sunscreen, lip balm, small towel, tissues, medications, rain gear). Also, on the last leg of the return trip 9after lunch) you will get sprayed quite a bit (ride is about 30 minutes, water was cold!) and we suggest a warm sweatshirt or long sleeve shirt with a waterproof hooded rain...
Read moreWe took the Grand Canyon - 3 days rafting trip on June 14th. It was amazing. I usually almost always find some things that bother me when I travel or go to a restaurant etc. it's just who I am. BUT....there's always first. and this trip was my first perfect experience. I cant even find one thing that was not ok on this trip. really. This is the first time I actually go on yelp to write a good review:) This trip was so well organized. Beyond my expectations...I must say. From the pick up at the hotel in vegas...thru the flight and the night we spent on Bar Ranch 10 and the helicopter down to the Canyon...Everything was just on point. Equipment was in excellent shape. Sleeping bag, sheets, pillow were clean and fresh. Our guide was very resourcful and used every minute to engage with information and story telling. Although he's doing it for 32 years, his enthusiasm felt like it was his first time. The food was great. During rafting....we had access to lots of water, sodas, snacks. And the jewel of this trip was the scenery. So beautiful. So relaxing. The night on the canyon was breathtaking. Living in LA doesn't often, if at all, let you see a clear sky. It was pitch dark at 9 pm and we got to see the most beautiful sky I've ever seen. so many stars. amazing. I just realized that I actually do have one complaint - The water were freezing. So frickin cold:))) This trip has been on my bucket list for a long time. I'm really happy I did it. Thank you Arizona River...
