My buddy and I stayed on a Saturday night and left Sunday morning. Angie helped me with reservations over the phone and she was super! Then I got SIX identical confirmation emails- don't know who's fault that was, but it was annoying. We checked in at around 4pm. I wanted to clean up before going out for the night so I went in to turn on the shower. The soap, shampoo and conditioner dispenser had leaked a lot of shampoo in to the tub leaving a sticky, slippery (dangerous) mess- and although the dispenser was full, it didn't work when I pressed the buttons. The water never got even close to hot- it was barely even warm. I went to the front desk after my cool shower and told them to turn up the water heater, which they apparently did (a tiny bit) , because my shower the next morning was, at least, warm-ish, but definitely nowhere near hot. BOOO! The towels were laughably tiny and rough- like big washcloths. I have a 33" waist and I could BARELY wrap the towel around my waist. Come on Canyon Inn, don't be so cheap! There was a clothes bar, but no hangers for my clothes. The motel is right on the main road so traffic was very loud, despite the A/C unit also being loud. The A/C unit went directly from 65 to 69 degrees- no in between. I had to tape the curtain to the wall to keep out the light from the parking lot. On the bright side, the beds were comfy and the bedding was new. The room was clean and looked like it had been painted and updated somewhat recently. The mini-fridge was appreciated and used but didn't have a tiny freezer which I thought all mini-fridges had. I put in earplugs (HIGHLY recommended!) and slept pretty well. I felt safe there, but I walked around the building in the morning and there had clearly been homeless people sleeping on cardboard and an old mattress in the back, and there were clothes hanging around. Behind the building smelled like urine. So I wouldn't walk around the area at night unarmed. Overall it wasn't terrible for the price, but a few upgrades like towels, hot water and no homeless urine would make a BIG difference. Just the owners being greedy! Some things you shouldn't penny-pinch on, like hot showers!! Shame. Another review mentioned breakfast included? There was no mention of breakfast whatsoever, and I didn't see anything out. I did make a cup of freeze-dried coffee in the lobby, but it was absolutely TERRIBLE and disgusting, and I dumped it in the trash before I got in my truck...
Read more0 STARS!!!! Place should be torn down!!!! This was by far the worst hotel/motel I have ever stayed at!! Although the owners were Middle Eastern and spoke limited broken English, there was no problems checking in.
My girlfriend and I walked into the room and we were highly disappointed in it! There was a whole in the door! You could see right through the hole and out into the parking lot! The deadbolt was missing! The door didn't latch properly! The hole in the door was big enough that anyone could walk right up and reach through the door and open it from the outside!
The bathroom door was missing so there is no privacy from the room to the bathroom. The sink was rusty. The toilet was missing the tank cover. The toilet constantly ran. The shower smelled like raw sewer was coming up through the drain hole. The mattress was very very very uncomfortable. The sheets, pillow cases, comforter, towels and wash clothes all had long black hairs stuck to them!
Then later that night our neighbors were throwing a loud party with lots of people and loud music. I knocked on the neighbor's door and they didn't answer. My girlfriend went to the front office but the office was closed for the night. I knocked on the neighbor's door again and again they didn't answer. So I then went to the front office and I ran the doorbell. I rang the doorbell 3 times and nobody came!
The party got louder and more and more people showed up for the party. Now it is 2am and we can't sleep! We had no other choice, so we called the police.
The police came and went and talked to the party neighbor's. The officer came to our room and explained that the party was actually the owners of the hotel and their college aged children and their friends.
I was confused. I asked the officer "The nice Middle Eastern middle aged couple who owns the hotel are the ones throwing the loud party?" And the police officer said "Yep. They said they will be winding down in about an hour."
I was in disbelief that the owners would be the ones we had to make a noise complaint about!! Finally around 3AM about 20 college aged Middle Eastern kids left and the loud music stopped. The next morning we checked out and we complained to the middle aged Middle Eastern couple who owned the hotel. The woman (wife) said there would...
Read moreI think it is very important that this review be made to warn travelers before they book at this motel. I made a reservation early April for 2 nights May 9 & 10 - to attend my daughter's graduation at NAU. I made the reservation using Canyon Inn's website, received confirmation, and all appeared set. Tonight, less than a week from my arrival, I received a voice mail message from "Laura" First, Laura was very critical about the contact number I left her - In her words she stated: "I guess you should have left your cell number or home number and you should not have left your work number (which is my cell phone number); and Second, she stated: "I am sorry to tell you, you do not have a reservation on the 9th here. Your credit card was invalid, and the price somebody has given you is absolutely a joke." " It s not $49.95 but $109.95 and the following night is $199.95 I am very sorry you chose to leave your work number". When I called back, she said her and her husband took over about six weeks ago, new managers/owners. I told her I had booked directly on line on their website and had a confirmation number, etc to prove it. She could careless. Luckily, I had the good fortune of telling her I had cancelled the reservation only moments earlier because I had double booked another hotel. Oh, did I mention my copy of the reservation on their website reflects my current and correct credit card number. Having lived in Flagstaff for many years, I know that price gouging goes on the week of NAU's graduation. The first call I make Monday morning is to the Flagstaff Better Business Bureau and look forward to playing the voice mail message for them and giving them a copy of the confirmation. The next call will be to the Attorney General's...
