We stayed on a Saturday and Sunday night in late December 2024. We used this as our homebase for exploring Biscayne National Park and then off to the Keys.
Check-in was uneventful and staff was fine and not very talkative. The atrium area was huge and modestly decorated for the holiday season. There was a corner market with snacks and food if you needed it. We had brought our own. Not sure about restaurants in the area as we didn't look. Be aware that there is a parking fee for the hotel. There were plenty of spots everywhere so not sure why they were charge extra for parking as we are only used to this is crowded big cities.
We stayed in room 609. 2 Queen Suite with Sofabed. They had the room listed as 5-person but only provided 2 towels. We went to ask for 3 more towels and were told they only had 2 left. However when another family walked by not 15 mins later, she said she saw the same staff member hand them 2 towels. This could've been coincidence that the towels were replenished in those 15 mins but we will never know. We asked for 2 more towels the next evening of our stay.
The room was larger than we expected. It had 2 TVs which is nice so the kids don't fight. The mini fridge was the smaller models which was unfortunate as we had to store some stuff in our cooler. The water pressure in the shower was decent. The provided shampoos, conditioner and body wash were nice. The beds were okay but not as nice as the ones we normally get at Holiday Inn Expresses where we normally stay. We needed a larger room and the local one didn't have suites available to accommodate more than 4 people.
The gym was nice and big but had a large bank of windows right in front of the elevators. So it was awkward if you were in there as everyone would just stare at your when waiting for elevators. The gym was deserted night one but next morning, every machine was being used. The gym did have a nice water bottle filler which is a plus.
The pool was heated and my youngest and I tried it out and loved it. The problem was the air temp was very chilly. So once we got in, we didn't want to get out. The pool is oddly located on the side of the hotel and not easy to get to but we enjoyed it for a hour or so. No one else joined us the entire time.
Breakfasts was great on Sunday morning with waffle maker but we didn't know that wasn't an everyday thing. Monday morning was more of a letdown. The selection and variety of hot items was just less. The one thing that was super cool was the oatmeal station. They had a variety of cool toppings like walnuts and sunflower and pumpkin seeds. We made a nice trail mix to go with the toppings.
Overall the price was comparatively reasonable for location and time of year. We would probably stay again if we were in the area and needed the...
Read moreChose this hotel based on its Marriott affiliation and proximity to the Keys. Big mistake. Driving in, we realized how run down the area was all around. The hotels here are all new and placed in the middle of a very bad area. So much so that while in line waiting to check in, the front desk lady told the older couple in front of us that it really isn't safe for them to go outside at night, but there is a security guard to walk them to their car if needed. Seeing as how i was traveling alone with my two kids, this was concerning. Especially since I planned to leave early and arrive late from the Keys each day of our stay. Upon check in, we got to our room and find the absolute smallest queen room we have ever seen in any Marriott (we were Platinum members upon checking in and Titanium upon checking out.... so we stay at A LOT of Marriotts). Not enough hall space for 3 suitcases to stand up, let alone somewhere to put them) and only enough room for the two beds. It was TINY. I asked if any other rooms were available that were bigger and they told me that my room was booked via Expedia and could not be linked to our account. We have stayed at countless Marriotts booked through Expedia and they just link our account. Never ever heard it was an issue. So not only were we not eligible for any upgrades (for a bigger room), but after a VERY long talk, we had to pay for one night of the original room AND and for the full time in the upgraded room. Fine. At that point they wouldnt refund us so we could go down to the spacious Home2 Suites. The new room was a queen "suite" which was much bigger, but honestly still only slightly larger than most standard queens at all other Marriotts. The door to the bathroom was sagging significantly and made a horrible, loud scratching sound every time it opened. I know the neighbors appreciated that at 5am. The mini fridge and microwave are the smallest options on the market. The saga continued with ONE washer and dryer for the whole building which was in use every single time we checked (8 checks over 3 days). So, that was useless. There was also no coffee or hot water available in the lobby at all after breakfast. And there were no paper plates or any condiments we could ask for to microwave food. The area has basically NO food options. Overall, I am not sure how the ratings were so high for this Fairfield Marriott. After hearing from other guests, several others also had terrible experiences as well. I recommend to stay somewhere else...
Read moreSuper worse in both management, maintenance, sanitary cleanliness, and customer services. New hotel but bad maintenance which made the hotel turn old quickly. The breakfast area is right next to the lobby and it smells so stinky. The 2 elevators are so dirty (during my 3 nights staying) and smell bad without any cleaning. Bonvoy Gold Member advanced reservation but the room was not ready upon arrival (3 pm). Three times request for room changing from one to others due to the bad smells of the rooms and filthiness. Bed Sheets and pillowcases overwhelmed with all bad smells of sweat or those had never been washed. Breakfast was really bad - no waffles. Breakfast area was dirty and not well sanitized. Bed Mattresses were super cheap, bad, and saggy. No hot water not coffee in the lobby. Hotel restrooms are so dirty and smell bad all the time. Front desk receptionist-Michelle- the old lady with purple short hair acted so crazy, rude, sneaky, and lousy. She always turned back negative on each guests’ request for amenities. Upon a request for a floor mat, she sneaked and turned the guest down by saying there was a mat in the room and denied providing anything for room amenities supply. To other colleagues, she acted like she is a big boss and always talk so loud in the lobby, trying to prove that she is the big header of the hotel! (unfortunately, she is just a receptionist as a norm)! Occasionally, an employee of this hotel revealed that Michelle tried to hold off amenities to guests to steal those for her own to bring home!?!?!? This is a weird person and hotel HR should consider upon hiring such person like Michelle or she will make the hotel down to hell beyond the brand name of Marriott. Front desk staff who responded to the online chat request did not know anything about the hotel, including the room direction of rooms styles. Overall, this hotel is the worst among Marriott hotels: BAD and RUDE MA CUSTOMER SERVICES, FACILITY IS DIRTY, FILTHY, UNSANITARY, BAD FRONT DESK STAFF, OVERPRICED TO DOWNSIDE VALUE. Over $150/nite- guests should stay at other nearby branded hotels but NOT THIS FAIRFIELD HOMESTEAD. Do not recommend this hotel and stay away from...
