This would have been 5 stars except. When I dropped the chairs off to be recovered i had a nice relationship with Obed. He sold me some fabric for a project I had and helped me finish it with some grommets. I discussed my fabric covered dining table chairs and explained that two of them needed to be tightened up. Obed explained that while they have the fabric removed they always tighten up the frame. I delivered two chairs, selected the fabric, and waited for the fabric to be delivered. As I read the work order before walking out the door I commented that it didn't discuss tightening the frames. "Trust me my friend, we always tighten the frames". After the fabric arrived I dropped off the other two chairs and commented once again about tightening the frames. A week later I picked up the chairs. The two loose chairs were still loose. A worker took them back and without removing any fabric as the screws were visible through the new fabric on the bottom they "trust me" tightened the chairs after the fact. When I got the chairs home I tested the frames. They were better but not tight. I contacted Obed and explained that I had expected that the chairs would have been tightened with the fabric removed, without using screws through the face of the frame and fabric. Obed had the chairs for about a week. The chairs are not much if any better. Although Obed said he would allow me to see the repairs with the fabric off that did not happen. In the process of arranging to pick up the chairs he also said he could give me my money back and put back the old fabric. At the time I thought that odd that they would keep old fabric for weeks and at first I thought that was not a good idea. Arriving to pick up the chairs today (which are the same loose) I attempted to explain to Obed that my concern was that he did not fix them when the fabric was off. Obed seemed to be more interested in raising his voice than listening to my concerns. He said he would take off the fabric and give me my money back. I asked "and put the old fabric back on". "Don't be silly, I don't have space to keep all the old material" I know I could have talked louder than Obed but to what end? He thought I was unreasonable and was one of those customers who would never be satisfied. He never asked me what would it take to satisfy me? Had he asked I would have said: 1. Please be quiet and listen to me and acknowledge that what you said about fixing the chairs did not happen. 2. It would have been nice that he had given me the courtesy of seeing the fabric pulled back to witness the frames being repaired and or seeing that they could not be reasonably fixed. (He said we were going to do this but...) 3. Had these things happened the first time I pointed out the chairs were fixed or even the second time I took them back to be fixed I would have been writing a much better review. Bottom line GET IT IN WRITING and don't expect to have your concerns listened to or addressed. Things could change but habits die hard. I bought a boat from someone in Homestead, he gave me a receipt and said, "I reupholstered all the seats and here's the receipt."
Used the boat twice, and there was a slight tear in one of the seats. I called Obed, told him about my situation. He was very cooperative, I asked him should i send you a picture of the seat to see if it's repairable? He said, "no no no, just come on in and we'll fix it for you" Since I live about 1:30 from his shop I decided to ship it out to him.
Following day, he calls me almost cursing me out, "NICE TRY, NICE TRY!" he said with a high tone. I was puzzled, what's going on? He said, "nice try, you're trying to get a freebie, this is not my material and not my work." At that moment I was puzzled. He kept yelling at me assuming I was trying to screw him. I then asked how much it would be and he gave me a very high price and said CASH! I told him I'll shop around before getting it done. After shopping I called him back to get my cushion back, if he would be able to send it back to me at my expense. He said i would have to come pick it up in person because he didn't trust me! WoW, I was surprised and quickly asked him could I send you a return label? He said yes and hung up. I called him back to get his email and he gave me either a wrong one or he never checked it! Took 3 days, I needed the cushion back so I could use my boat that weekend. I called back Wednesday and Alejandra picks up, she gave me a completely different email to send the label. I felt like it was getting held on purpose after a complete misunderstanding. I asked if she received it and if it would be shipped out that day, didn't get a response until half way through the day, then I asked her if she would send it out by the end of the day, she said not until a truck gets here. So I was completely done with all the waiting and time was running out, didn't know if they would ever send it out, so I scheduled a pickup.
I had a horrible experience with their communications. Not knocking on their product, the rest of the seats are really well done, I never noticed the difference of the material, I'm not a professional Obed. All of this could have been resolved better. Read moreIf you' are looking for quality work this is the place to shop. Quality work and precision from start to finish. I've never met anybody who ran this type of a business with such professionalism and attention do detail as the owner does here. We waited a full year to leave this review after receiving our product! The owner took the time to speak with us about every aspect of the product from choosing materials to giving color and construction advice and steering us in a direction that turned out to be perfect. Having dealt with a great many other firms I can say that not only was the quality of Homestead upholestry perfect but the experience the owner has and the way he was able to transmit that experience to the consumer for final selection and choice was impeccable. The material that he constructed for us has stood up to multiple storms, saltwater, abrasion,overt commercial use and at times downright physical abuse and still looks as new as the day he supplied it. Not only would I recommend anyone and everyone going to this location ti shop I will make sure that for the rest of my life I do upholstery business only with this organization. There are some who would be quick to leave a poor and totally unfair review but sifting through those reviews you can often find the truth and the truth of the matter is..... this is a one-in-a-million...
