Ratings are very often about expectations. If you are expecting a 4 or 5 star property, you will be very disappointed with Coconut Bay Resort. If however, you are expecting a 2 or 3 star property, you will possibly be satisfied. Upon arrival from a 20-minute ride from Ft. Lauderdale Airport, we checked into a 3-floor motel-like property. The reception employee was efficient. We were told that there was no maid service and that bathroom towels would be changed mid-week. We were also given 6 threadbare beach towels and told quite firmly that there would be no others for the week. Our unit was supposed to sleep 6, so this would have been 1 ragged towel per person. Our unit was on the second floor; no one told us there was an elevator anywhere near this unit. There were plenty of parking spaces (first plus). When we reached the stairs, we were hit with the very strong smell of a disinfectant, which remained for the week (occasionally mixed with the sickening smell of marijuana). The unit itself was quite spacious with terrific closet space and storage—1 bedroom with a queen, 1 bedroom with two twins, and 1 pullout sofa. There were two full baths. Second plus. However, I noticed several ant traps, apparently insufficient because we saw many tiny ants in the bathrooms. One day we were visited by some mysterious flying bugs of some kind. The floors were swept, but had not been mopped in some time. The kitchen was nicely appointed with the usual appliances. However, while there were plates, silverware, and glasses for 12, strangely only 3 wine glasses of different sizes. There was a double sink, one with a garbage disposal and the other with a rusted drain. The queen bed we slept in was comfortable (third plus), but the pillows were very lumpy and hard. The pool was small but adequate; the lounge chairs, shoddy and uncomfortable. The beach was a 10-minute walk, which doesn’t sound far at all, but if you are carrying anything, it’s not pleasant. The cost to rent two chairs and an umbrella on the beach is $50.00. Plus number 4, the property (there is absolutely no way anyone would call this a resort) was quiet and close to some terrific restaurants. And finally, when you check out, you are told to strip the bed and put the linens in the...
Read moreThe size of the condo was great. But it was quite annoying that the elevator didn’t work. The first time they carried up our suitcase for us but the whole trip the elevator wouldn’t recall to the third floor. You could get on at one and go up but it didn’t come when pressed on the third floor. We let them know. But four young kids and three flights of stairs wasn’t super fun. There is no housekeeping. That’s always an issue on the beach getting lots of sand all over. There were tons of ants in the bathroom. The dishwasher had dishes in it when we arrived. The main tv worked fine but the bedroom tv said no internet. When I called to ask for a WiFi password I was rudely told to look for the brochure. Never found one the whole trip. The office is open 9-5 so if you have any after hour issues you’re out of luck. Toilet plugs up. Oh well. Run out of toilet paper. Oh well. Air not working. Oh well. So while the condo was roomy it’s not somewhere I’d recommend. It was relatively close to the beach. You walk through a parking garage then up some stairs. Then you cross a non busy street. Then walk maybe two blocks down and cross a really busy street then you’re there. The pool for the resort was very warm. I personally liked it but heard people complaining of it not being refreshing. I didn’t pay for this condo I got it for listening to a time share thing that we said no to. So I don’t know what it would’ve cost. I personally felt that security was non existent. Very strong marijuana smell. They put your room number on your keys (normal stick in door keys). They put the room number on your car placard. As a mom traveling with kids while husband worked I didn’t appreciate people being able to know my...
Read moreMy wife and I recently vacationed at the Coconut Bay resort in February of 2017. This was our second visit to the resort in two years and the experience was once again excellent and memorable. The single bedroom room was comfortable, clean and well appointed as were the other amenities, including the pool. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful and assisted us in selecting local activities.
I can’t say enough good things about the location as it is a very short walk to the Ft. Lauderdale beach, which is vastly improved, clean and a very family oriented experience. You are also minutes away from the “strip” where there is an endless selection of great cafes and dining locations across the street from the ocean. To the north is the beautiful Hugh Taylor Birch State Park where there are exercise trails and a very interesting nature walk through an original hardwood hammock.
The resort is located at the end of Sunrise Blvd and you are only a few minutes drive from the shops, restaurants and bars of Las Olas Blvd and Commercial Blvd as well as the downtown Ft. Lauderdale.
In addition, Coconut Bay is right off the main channel of the Intracoastal Waterway and you can arrange to be picked up by a water taxi and explore the upper reaches of the New River and all of the great waterfront restaurants and the downtown Riverwalk.
The resort is a real gem and a great value, not to mention the fact that there are so many engaging activities within easy...
