We were excited to visit this charming 30's Deco styled boutique hotel, as it was highly recommended to us by local friends. Our original plan was to go to the restaurant for dinner but decided to stay one night in one of their king poolside rooms as well. Check-in was quick and for the most part self directed in regards to parking on the side street and handling of bags since it is a small boutique hotel with minimumal but professional staff. Room was clean and well stocked with amenities including single serve coffee with Green Mountain brand cups. Only white sugar was provided with no cream. When we called to get cream from rooms service (claims to be 24-hours), there was no answer on several tries. So we had to walk to front desk to get it. Small quiet pool and intracoastal dock with covered seating area were just a few feet away from one room which made it feel somewhat private and gave a nice boutique-ish feel. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate which did not allow us to fully enjoy the pool. No spa services or facility on premise but private in-room massage was offered. One disappointment was the humidity in the room, which covered the floors and sheets and just about everything in the room with a layer of moisture. Complimentary drink was available upon check in, to be enjoyed at the small bar or seating area which felt like a 1930's home, complete with a harp (for decoration only) in the corner. We both commented that a piano would have suited the room better, with some jazz later in the evening, but we did hear that the hotel sponsors different events throughout the season which may include entertainment. Staff friendly and attentive. Dinner was pleasant but nothing special. Overall a nice visit but not a 4 or 5-star experience that would be expected considering the nightly rate (mid 300's) and the strong recommendation. Since it is one block off the beach and many restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk, it is a unique and quiet...
Read moreWe hosted a large dinner at the Pillars Hotel's Secret Garden with over 65 guests last weekend. Out of towners stayed at the hotel. On a one to ten, from feedback we got, we would have to rate the hotel's performance and the event execution a fifteen. We reviewed the hotel’s extraordinary reviews over past months and years to assure guest's satisfaction (they are very seasoned travelers at highly rated accommodations). The hotel guests rated the hotel as "best of class" and wanting to return. ||The party attendee satisfaction was exceptional from valet handling to ambience to cocktail and dinner servicing. The food was as good as we've experienced for a large-scale party. Three entrees were offered (Chilean Sea Bass, Duck and Beef Rigatoni) and guests who were vegan or with gluten allergies were given alternative meals very quickly to high satisfaction. The staff was incredible in aiding structuring of a seating plan, accommodating setting up of a fun 32' display, tailoring table setup to a very unusual centerpiece, placemats and other fun additions, etc. The hotel arranged the music with all tailored to over three hours of specific songs . The hotel helped facilitate a special dessert and toast finality billed as an extraordinary happening. ||Yes, we’ve referred friends to The Pillars for years. With the reality that major hotel chains are cutting back on all from soaps to daily room servicing and nickel and diming additions of resort fees and almost room rate level parking charges, we feel fortunate to have this jewel of consistent top performance in...
Read moreThe hotel is apparently very sweet however beware of the rooms in the Annex. The annex is in a separate building which is NOT on the water like the main building. They do not tell you this, though. It is a separate building on a terribly noisy intersection where cars and motorcycles start and stop between blaring music, squealing brakes, and backfiring engines - it was anything but idyllic. The room was well appointed, however distinctly smelled of mildew despite the air purifier which they had put in the room and turned on. I am allergic to mold, and I spent the entire weekend coughing and sneezing. There was NO manager on duty for the entire weekend - I was given an email address which I wrote to but absolutely no one replied. I knew the hotel was sold out so they couldn’t move us within the hotel, but how about answering and trying to find some kind of a solution… ??|The continental breakfast included in our rate (Hilton gold member) was pitiful at best. Very average quality, meager portion of croissants and danish, no fruit, cheese, cold cuts or anything else (evidently the owner has never been on the “continent” in a “luxury” hotel for a “continental breakfast “… The sliced toasted bread was supermarket quality at best. Not to mention that they serve everything out on their dock but then they charge you extra to serve out there… The restaurant Saturday night was very pleasant - the food was ok but not fantastic.|So if you’re thinking about spending $500+ a night for a sweet, relaxing weekend,...
