CAMPER BEWARE: My family and i arrived late on friday evening for what we thought would be a fun weekend for my sons birthday but it quickly turned into a nightmare. Within 5 minutes of walking into our cabin DC04, we started spotting roaches coming out of the baseboard heater. We called the afterhours number and Sharon showed up about 25 minutes later to give us a new cabin. When she arrived the smell of marijauna was so strong coming from her car, which I found extremely unprofessional. Since she didn't have another cabin big enough for us all, she offered to have housekeeping come in but if you know anything about roaches, they don't just go away, they must be properly treated so we ended up getting put into 2 separate cabins. Cabin 2 and Cabin 3. Already paranoid about the roaches from the last place we decided to leave ALL of our belongings with the exception of the babies playpen in the car. Who h i am thankful we did because we also found baby roaches in cabin 3 but at this point it was midnight and we were all exhausted so we split up the linens provided to us and went to bed. My mother in law and wife each in separate cabins woke up covered with bites all over their bodies and as we looked, we found several bedbugs in the linens provided. We had to leave our daughters playpen behind and since we were not willing to stay another night. The next morning as we went to leave Sharon came up with several excuses and tried to tell me that its not bed bugs and shrug the whole thing off. With hesitation they finally decided to give us a refund because we refused to stay a second night. We had tickets to peppa pig park for saturday so we had no choice but to leave all our makeup in the hot car and leave all our food behind at the cabin because we had no way to keep it cool for that long since we had to shorten our stay. As the day went on more and more bites started to appear and blistering. My mother in laws bites got so bad she had to go to urgent care Sunday morning to receive steroids and medication. I was told that i would recieve a call from the manager but i didnt so my wife had to call this morning. Matt the manager on duty said they would “investigate” the issue. My wife was also told that the exterminator comes monthly but coming from a property manager background you have to specifically treat for both roaches and bedbugs multiple visits typically to get rid of them. A simple monthly spray isnt going to do the trick. She was offered a free stay at the campground but we turned it down because of obvious reasons. I have stayed at several KOAs and have never dealt with...
Read moreIt's a KOA, so it is essentially a grassy parking lot. 10 feet to your neighbor. And overpriced. $87 a night with my 'discount' is a lot. Premium sites come with patios, some have their own little dog pen. We had a route change and because of our last minute reservation we had to move once in our first four days here. When I called here they made it sound like they were fully booked and were doing me a favor by finding me a site. But when we got here there were dozens of empty spaces. And they stayed empty during our visit. Many long term/seasonal and permanent residents which is typical. They have regular and deluxe cabins. A heated pool and spa, but be warned, old people in swimwear! Usual stuff, mini-golf, playground, toys and games. The most popular was a covered inflated bouncy area. Laundry rooms were air conditioned and mostly clean, reasonable $4.00 per load wash/dry. Place is mostly cared for, and staff were daily working on things like painting and staining, though there were obvious signs of neglected maintenance. Like broken concrete. And whoever paints doesn't tape anything off so there is always paint slop. Bathrooms are 'mostly' clean and smell like cleaner, but they don't do a good job. There are mineral deposits and rust on floors and walls. And the windows and vents are filthy. No one cleans any higher than 5ft. They were out of propane here during most of our stay which was odd. This is right at the juncture of the I-4 and US-27 so there is a lot of traffic and vehicle noise, especially sirens. All day and night with the sirens. And traffic is very bad, it took me 12 minutes to go under 2 miles on US-27 to the Dodge dealer. Disney World is just 10 miles away, so that could be 25 minutes or 2 hours, both directions. I got gas less than a mile away and at 4pm it took us 28 minutes to go less than one mile. But people here don't seem to go anywhere, many just sit all day. They have a rec room with computers, tv and little library. Doesn't look like it gets used. They have a store with a few items, souvenirs and some camping essentials. As expected it's all expensive. There are no activities like at other KOA's. One annoying thing is that they don't allow people to use the dumpster. You have to put your trash out from 8-4 and they pick it up. Which means if you have a lot of stinky trash after making dinner, you have to wait until morning to put it out. They have a 10mph speed limit which doesn't seem to apply to the staff. And they can't go 20 feet without using their carts. We camped at Orlando Southwest KOA Holiday in a...
Read moreTraveling full-time in a 38-foot coach we stayed 14-nights in a site for big rigs (site #140 - Pd $68./night). This was our first visit here. We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop this RV park from investing in doing WIFI properly. For some users such as ourselves, WIFI is an important feature and was one of the reasons for our stay here. We were told both by email and phone that each site had a good wifi signal. The wifi in and around our site was just about non-existent. We were in direct sight of two wifi towers, but still couldn't get a decent connection, even at 5am. Other guests we spoke with also had non-existent wifi! We know enough not to count on a good signal over the weekends, but during the weekday there is no excuse. We even have the WIFI-Ranger on our roof with a direct-line-of-sight to their wifi source. There were no trees in the line-of-sight, and the distance was not a factor. Initially there was a mix-up when we checked-in...after checking-in to the office and being assigned a site, we proceeded to our site to find it was already occupied by a family who intended to stay for a week. Returning to the office, the office gal was confused, but she located an alternate site for us. The first site was a pull-thru, but the second site was a back-in, for a deserved cheaper price. This park is built on a hill and most of the sites in the back of the park are terraced along the hill side. Most of the terraced sites are not level and require the use of levelers. The sites at the front of the park are level with nice gravel pads, but the terraced sites are sand, dirt and grass and placed close together. The site we were placed on was way to unlevel for a coach our size. The driver-side was almost one foot off the ground, and because of the sand & dirt base after just a couple days we had to re-level. There's plenty of room to walk your dog here with a small fenced dog area. Also, there's a dog wash which is a nice surprise. We had AT&T phone service here and our satellite worked good. Will not...
