We arrived at this hotel at just before 1AM at the end of a grueling 12-hour drive plagued with heavy traffic and poor weather.
Check in was efficient from a friendly night clerk. I am not one to complain much - I have been in a LOT of hotel rooms over the years and seen alot of different things (and some things I would like to forget). When we arrived at the 3 floor room and discovered that it had a very foul, musty/mildew odor and the bathroom smelled like urine. The hotel was sold out, so I knew we couldn't switch rooms.
At that point I asked my teenage son if he could stand it for a few hours to sleep, or go and sleep in the van - neither one of us wanted to get back in the van and there was a pretty wicked thunderstorm raging outside. He said he could, we both were very tired. I also knew from booking the room a couple weeks prior that many other area hotels were also sold out and that we would be hard pressed to get another hotel, especially at that late hour.
I realize that with labor shortages, getting housekeepers to clean the rooms is a challenge these days for most hotels these days. Many hotels are not evening operating at full capacity as they cannot secure enough staff to clean the rooms.
That said, this room should not have been rented. I wondered if the third floor was that musty, what the rooms on the ground floor must have smelled like? Even a couple days after we left, we could still smell the room on our clothers and our suitcases, and sitll had over a week left to go on our road trip.
While the lobby and breakfast area of this property is quite nice - the room and its furnishing seemed to be quite dated and not up to IHG/H-Inn Express standards.
I didn't mention the room issue at the front desk upon checked the next morning, I wanted to but the lobby was full of people, we were still tired, and wanted to finish the next 6 hour leg of...
Read moreFirst, I am a Spire member, if that means anything anymore. My wife and I arrived early in the morning, around 2:15am. We were stopping on our way to Nashville, TN. Upon arriving, the front doors were locked. So we had to press the buzzer to get let in. Well, we pressed the buzzer 5 or 6 times with no response. We stood outside the hotel for another 45 minutes. I called the hotel's front desk from the door and nobody answered. After a few moments, my wife decided to just hold the buzzer, and finally a gentleman came from behind the desk and buzzed us in. Next, the phone rang and he didn't ask them to hold or ask us anything. We proceeded to stand there while he took a phone call for another 15 minutes. I have stayed at a lot of IHG properties and never have I had to wait an hour to check in to my room.
The next morning we had woken up to get ready for the day and continue our drive south. Housekeeping decided it was a good idea to knock on our door around 9am, then proceeded to open the door even though we had the latch across the door. The lady then proceeded to try and move the latch off the door so she could get into the room. UM EXCUSE ME! Clearly we are still in the room if the latch is on the door. Not sure how you can latch the door behind you if you walk out! I walked up to the door and said, "Clearly we are still in here" and she immediately shut the door and left. NEVER has that ever happened at any hotel I have ever stayed at! Totally un professional.
Between the late night front desk gentleman, to the housekeeping woman who just needed to barge in, this hotel staff is ridiculous and I would never stay here again, strictly because of the staff. The room was okay, needed a good updating, but not terrible. The hotel itself looks nice and the lobby is very nice, but the...
Read moreEdited to add* The manager contacted me which exceeded my expectations. She let me know they immediately sent maintenance to fix the motor on the air conditioning unit. I certainly appreciate the follow up and did enjoy the stay while I was awake. The pool was heated and clean, the rooms were clean and fresh and the employees were very accommodating, plus the breakfast ladies were wonderful and food was delicious. All in all I would definitely stay again especially after the fast and professional response. Thank you!
The front desk lady when we checked in was very nice and the overnight person got me an extra pillow and was great, the trouble was the Air conditioner in the room. It sounds like shoes banging in a dryer. When I talked to the front desk lady this morning about it and showed her the video I took (just to let them hear how loud it was) the first woman asked another (the manger I assume) to look at it. Well the (assumed) manger acted like oh no big deal (edited to add; manger had literally just walked through the door and assured me she did care, it was busy and I'm very sure at the first moment of walking in she was doing the best she could and I completely understand that! I'm very thankful she listened and took my complaint to heart and fixed the issue immediately.) I wasn't asking to be fully reimbursed or for anything specific (matter of fact I didn't ask for anything and just showed the video I took), (edited: in full disclosure she assured me today that we were reimbursed 10%) but it sure would've been warranted at this point you'd think. I slept with ear plugs in and asked for the extra pillow to cover my head, just to be able to sleep. Obviously there was an issue. Don't stay in room 212 unless you can sleep with banging air conditioning right next...
