Our first impression on pulling up to the Baymont was not good. There were parking lot dwellers that set off alarm bells for us. As we parked the car and approached the door there was a swipe key lock on the front door and a no guns allowed sticker on the window. Moving inside you could see the panel of security camera screens behind the desk, which also set off alarm bells for us. The counter is full of homemade signs taped to the desk. The pictures of the pool online are deceiving, and we even question if they are of the same place. We choose not to swim after seeing the pool in person. Moving to the elevator there was a sign that relayed to use the buttons gently. Moving into the elevator there was a sign that limited the number of people to 4, or 2 people with a luggage cart. The sign also relayed a part was on order, although the sign seems pretty old for a part on order. All the signs about the elevator did not inspire confidence in the use of the elevator. The room was what you would expect of a hotel with a few exceptions. The sink for the room was right in the entryway which made for an awkward experience. The bathroom light was on the outside of the bathroom wall towards the bed which was a little odd. The room had drain flies in the bathroom. The AC was cool, and the room served its need. The breakfast was good, although the layout of the dining room lead to a cumbersome experience with other guests. All in all we would choose to stay elsewhere in the future if we were to visit Gurnee again.|||| Nathan the evening attendant was pleasant and helpful. I asked about changing our stay (due to a death in the family) and he kindly told me I would have to wait until the morning to speak with a manager, since we booked through a third party. After calling Capital One they relayed that it was up to the manager if we were able to adjust our stay. In the morning 07:00 to 08:30 ish we were met with a different attendant, not as helpful as Nathan. He relayed that the manager would not be in today, and that since we booked through a third party that we could not adjust our stay. We went on about our business and around 14:00 we arrived back and the manager, Hetal Butch, was in. She relayed that since we booked third party there was nothing she could do. I kindly informed her of what Capital One relayed and she changed her tune and then stated since it was already past 14:00 she couldn't get housekeeping to turn over our room. Again I pushed back and stated we asked about this in the morning, however she would not refund our money. I didn't want to argue. It's not as if she couldn't refund our money, she chose not to.|||| With the mediocre conditions of the hotel and a management team that didn't want to work with a guest, I would look for somewhere...

My fiance booked this hotel for naval graduation. We had 3 rooms total. My sister in law arrived a couple hours before we did, he room was dirty and just dingy when she walked in. After pulling the sheets back to check for bugs she found a thong under the bed. 1st strike, after we arrived we looked at the pool and it was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! it was dirty, unkempt and had a film/oil slick over top of it. We checked into our room and it too was absolutely disgusting, food crumbs on the floor, the couch was so nasty and stained it had black spots on it. I went to open the curtains and they were gross and dirty too. There was hair in the shower and it was just NOT at all what the pictures show. We left and went to dinner and talked as a group about the accommodations. My sister in law told the desk attendant her issues and she contacted the manager who agreed to refund her money so she could get a different hotel. We asked if we could get a refund too but the manager said no. So we just decided to suck it up and stay....that's where it got WORSE! The following morning I got a call from the front desk where the man started SCREAMING at me about how I was supposed to be gone and was in the room illegally. When I TRIED to tell him that was my sister in law and not us he kept screaming at me calling me a liar. I went to the desk to try to straighten things out and let them know we were not the ones they refunded and that we decided to stay because they would not refund us our money and we did not have the money to spend on a different place. The man continued to yell at me till I started crying, my family was at the graduation during all of this. I then told them "no we are staying till Saturday " then the actual manager came out ( it was her husband yelling at me) and kept saying we had to leave. She said " you unhappy so just go, leave , I give money back you just leave" I told her no you have to talk to my fiance , we aren't leaving, we are booked till Saturday...she kept telling me " you check out at noon , you leave today" just screaming at me. I said " so you are throwing us out"? She said if I have too! I went back to my room crying and couldn't leave till the rest of the family returned because I was scared they would throw my belongings out of my room. When my fiance returned and went to talk to them they pretended like nothing happened and said they never yelled, said I came down yelling. The owners/ management are absolutely psycho and rude. I Will NEVER recommend...
Read moreWe had a family trip and booked 4 rooms on the same floor. We spoke to someone prior to booking and even called and checked a few days ahead of time to make sure the rooms would be next to each other. We had children with us. On the day of arrival, we were at a nearby restaurant and the hotel called us to see if we were still coming because they had our rooms ready for us. 2 hours later we are at the hotel, and they had booked us on different floors. Their housekeeper was sick so the rooms were not cleaned or ready. It was a fiasco. We coerced them to give us rooms on the same floor because they refused to give us a discount due to their mistake or lack of staff. My sister's room's toilet was clogged. The lady at the front desk handed my sister a plunger and told my sister to plunge the toilet. My sister was very upset. She told the manager she could plunge the toilet but would charge the hotel for plunging the toilet. I could not believe that they couldn't have a housekeeper or the lady behind the counter or the man behind the counter to go and plunge yet they would tell a customer to plunge a toilet that was clogged before our arrival. They insinuated that we clogged the toilet. Not the case. Also there were no towels. Each room only had a max of 3 towels. The rooms have double beds and a sleeper couch. When we asked for towels, they told us there were just no more clean towels. (Remember the housekeeper was sick). My sister said well you have a laundry onsite so why don't you get up and go wash some towels. There was also a shortage of pillows. Sheets seemed used. All the rooms smelled like cigarette smoke or worser smoke. They were supposed to be non smoking rooms. I know you are thinking can it get any worse? Yes. When we asked for the wifi password they gave us an attitude because it was supposed to be written on the little booklet with the key upon check in. Our booklets were blank and we showed it to them. They still were huffy about it. We got stuck in the old elevator. They blamed us for getting stuck in the elevator because we were over 2500 lbs limit somehow. This was a pretty bogus hotel. Stay here if you want to be mistreated and upset. The rooms were not cheap. The rate we paid was 150 a...
