There is NEVER anyone at the front desk. There is a sign saying they "Stepped away and to use the phone to call someone to the desk". They didn't just step away, the sign is always there because there is never anyone at the desk. I received a text message after we checked in saying once we get settled to let them know if we need anything and here's a link to join Choice rewards. Country Inns used to know when their rewards members were there and actually acknowledged them as members when they arrived. They would never send a text like that. The check-in system here needs updating, especially when you can check in remotely at most other hotels now. They hand you a paper and a pen and say initial here and there, entered your vehicle information, sign and give me a credit card. Following that, she said vending machines and ice are around the corner and only on the first floor. We went to the snack machine and it was EMPTY, there were maybe 5 items in the entire machine. Why would you tell people that if there is nothing in it??? Who is servicing these machines that they look like that? Find a new vendor that will keep up!! They are apparently doing some remodeling, there are rolls construction material all over the main patio outside, next to the entrance outside, in the lobby and in the breakfast room area. Your first impression is wow what a mess, but there wasn't a building permit on the door and nothing from the staff explaining the mess. There is nothing on their website about remodeling or construction, either. The room walls are very thin. We heard the noise from the family with three rooms surrounding around us constantly. The beds are very hard and uncomfortable, the bedding is almost non-existent and there are only 3 "small" pillows that go flat as soon as you lay on them on a bed that sleeps two people. Why wouldn't you provide 4 pillows so each person has 2? The freezer in the mini-fridge was a block of ice and all the arms to hold drinks in the doors were missing. The hook was coming off the back of the door in the bathroom and there were 3 bath towels and 2 wash cloths in a room for 4 people. There was no regular coffee in our room and only 1 hot coffee cup. We went down to the lobby at 6am to get coffee from there and it was COLD. We were told breakfast would be available in an hour and there would be hot coffee then. Country Inns have always had hot coffee, hot water and cold water in the lobby 24 hours a day. If you aren't going to provide the service anymore, put the pots away! The website advertises a free hot breakfast. Biscuits and gravy is NOT a free hot breakfast! Biscuits and gravy comes with the hot breakfast and always has at Country Inns. A hot breakfast has eggs, sausage or bacon or ham, maybe hash browns, NOT just biscuits and gravy with muffins, bread and cereal and make your own waffles. That is a continental breakfast. Country Inns are known for the great hot breakfast, none of that was here, even the muffins were prepackaged instead of fresh. It was frustrating to see the quality and variety of food available while the person running breakfast sat in the dark part of the room talking on her phone. I never received an email or a paper bill confirming our stay and checkout and the sign on the front desk changed in the morning from "We Stepped Away" to a bin with the sign that said "Leave Room Keys Here" while AGAIN no one was at the desk. This is not how Country Inns have ever been. Their guests and their experience mattered, it wasn't just a credit card payment. I'm very disappointed in this Country Inn and our stay here. They need a lot of improvement in...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE!!! ME AND MY SISTER STAYED HERE AND ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE OF BED BUGS! IT'S BEEN REPORTED AND YOU CAN CHECK ON THE LAKE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT. we stayed for a few nights seemed really nice , staff was nice , room seemed ok , bathroom was dirty , but it takes a lot for me to get upset. My sister woke up the first night with bites all over her hands and feet . We had never even heard of bed bugs so we literally could never fathom spending 100 dollars a night and there being any issues . We thought it was are puppy maybe he had flees and they were little bites . However we called the front desk asked told them that my sister woke up with a few bites , they tried to blame it on the laundry detergent, and assured us that while we were at work that day they had cleaned the entire room , and had it checked which was obviously a lie. The 2 night at about 2 am my sister woke up from what she describes as a burning feeling everywhere all over her arms , back , hands , legs . She turned the lamp on and came to my bed moved my sheet , and started screaming. I jumped up and I don't know what made me do this but I grabbed a napkin and grabbed the bug. My sister went into the bathroom she had what I can only describe as the most horrific thing I've ever seen . Bites that were so bad they were welts that started to swell her entire body . After the initial shock and her screaming at the top of her lungs she kept taking her cloths off. And what I saw will be imprinted in my memory for life. We called the front desk to them everything they REPEATEDLY told me there was no night manager and there was nothing that they could do . We left everything there her cloths her shoes her purse EVERYTHING! I STARTED GOGGELING WHAT IT COULD BE AND THE COMPUTER LITERALLY LITE UP WITH LINKS AND PICS OF BED BUGS . I TOOK HER TO THE HOSPITAL. VISTA HOSPITAL IN WAUKEGAN AND THE DR SAID SHE HAD ONE OF THE WORSE OUTBREAKS OF BED BUGS BITES SHE HAD EVER SEEN. SHE WAS ADMITTED FOR THE NIGHT IT WAS REPORTED BY US AND THE HOPSPITAL AND I BROUGHT THE BUG TO THE HOSPITAL AS WELL THAT WAS INDEED TESTED AND CAME BACK AS BED BUGS . I WOULD NOT WISH THIS EXPERIENCE TO MY WORSE ENEMY! SHE CRIED FOR 4 OR 5 STRAIGHT DAYS . SHE HAD BITES SO DEEP AND DISGUSTING THAT BURNED FOR WEEKS . SCARED HER SKIN , AND STILL TODAY, A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE SCARS BOTH EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY REMAIN . IT WAS THE WORSE EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIFE! THEY WILL NOT LET ME LINK THE PHOTOS , BUT WE WANTED TO SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE, SO THAT NO ONE EVER HAS TO GO THROUGH IT . LIKE I SAID IT'S BEEN REPORTED BY THE HOSPITAL, AND THE LAKE COUNTY...
Read moreWe check in a day before our reservation. We came in town for our son's Sweet 16th Birthday to celebrate at six flags. The best part of the trip sadly was not 6 Flags, but the kind and very generous staff here. They went above and beyond. From checking in tired after a long drive, to Saturday morning before we left for the park, and Sunday when we left. ||||They had great hospitality skills and made you feel like family, not just another number. The manager and staff allowed us to have pizza and cake for our son because the park does not accommodate. They went above and beyond the scope of being helpful. I couldn't of asked for a better experience. A third of the year we stay in hotels or at resorts. ||||The lady who worked October 21st 3-11 shift, October 22nd days 7-3, October 23rd days was an absolute gem. She is an asset! Do everything you can to retain employees like this. They are far and few between. After we had pizza and cake she went above the scope of customer service to let us know the park was at capacity and people were walking in groups to get in. It was almost like something out of a movie. Just her care and attentiveness looking out for the guests and families was so super thoughtful. ||||The food was great, the bed was comfortable and clean, and the staff was absolutely amazing. What more can you ask for in a stay? Grateful and thankful. When in Gurnee, we will be staying here. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality. ||||Tip to other guests: I don't read other comments just merely want to express a hotel is a place to stay at. Not a free babysitting service, not a resort, and not your home. Please pick up after yourself when you leave, clear floors in bedroom and bathroom (think of how you expect your house to look) a hotel is no different. If trash is overflowing throw it away, pick up towels leave them on a sink all in one area. It is no ones job to clean up after you or the mess you make. Watch your kids. be thoughtful and considerate of others with noises and mitigate complaints. ||||If the price is too expensive for you maybe a Super 8 would be the way to go or simply stay at home if you want to look for things to find and complain about. Hotel workers work doubles, nights, mornings- based off customer needs (operating at full capacity) and do everything from resolving complaints, check rooms, help housekeeping, maintenance, breakfast associates while answering the phones, checking guests in, and tending to the hotels needs and guests needs. Work one day in their shoes, it is a life changing perspective. ||||Thank you sincerely,...
