Definitely outdated, a bit run down, and just not a very high-quality stay. The rooms are rooms, plain and simple. No special amenities, features, or even much in the way of conveniences. Ceiling tiles in hallways are broken or missing.
There are extra charging ports and outlets on the end table near the beds. This would be helpful, except the outlets are so used, beaten and loose that my chargers and medical device wouldn't even stay plugged in. I had to go out and buy an extension cord just to finally be able to use my devices by the bed.
Smaller room issues: The shower had hair in it when my family first arrived. The TV channel selection is mid with older style televisions. The air conditioner makes loud and odd sounds all night long. Crumbs and other debris were on the floor. Facial tissue never filled. I had a package delivered thst the front desk told did not show up and they do not have it. No doubt about that. Two days later, they tell me I've had a package at the desk for two days now. Of course, they did not say they just found it. They just said I left it down there.
Service is mostly okay. Counter people are usually nice enough, but service to the rooms leaves a lot to be desired. They only make beds, empty trash, replace towels/washcloths, and do any cleaning every other day. When people regularly use this hotel to go to Six Flags Great America, expecting everyone to use linens multiple days seems a little nasty. This especially rings true for the washcloths used to wash our bodies with. We had garbage and dirty towels piled up since we're on vacation and are eating out and shopping regularly. Eww.
The Hampton Inn does serve free breakfast in the mornings. This is also generally just okay. You can make your own waffles, which my children do enjoy. There are also eggs, meat, and potatoes that you can grab, along with other assorted breakfast items (bagels, toast, oatmeal, etc...). The cooked items can vary from day to day on how well they taste or even look. I appreciate a free breakfast, it is available for 4 hours, and I mostly did enjoy the available items.
There is a laundry room (also outdated), tiny fitness closet (technically a room), and a little pool. Nothing around here really stands out other than it's convenient proximity to Six Flags Great America and Gurnee Mills. This is our second time staying here, and I'm not sure I'll be booking it for my next...

Read moreHotel rates were fair pricing for being down the road from Six Flags Great America. When you walk into the main entrance the air flow and cleanliness appears to be nice quality 4/5. We stayed in room 207. The hallways and elevator have little to no air conditioning. The bathroom was as small as a closet. The soap holder in the bath/shower had mold spots. The chairs and linens and curtains were outdated. Definitely could tell the chairs have been cleaned several of times from the fading of fabric. We stayed two nights 4th of July weekend since other hotels were booked to capacity. We checked in July 3rd, 2025 and checked out July 5th, 2025. When getting my two year old dressed Sunday July 5th, 2025, I noticed her upper abdomen and upper arms and armpit had severe bed bug bite marks. My child had an Allergic reaction to the bed bug bites so I took her to local med-point when we got back to Indiana. The doctor diagnosed BED BUG BITES! I called to speak with the manager he failed to return my call due to the language barrier and had another worker who spoke English call me I asked for my stay to be refunded for the inconvenience. She declined and wanted me to forward her my medical bills, vehicle and house inspection and any other bill so they can turn it into their insurance company! Needless to say I will be contacting my attorney, IMMIGRATION, Gurnee Village Hall Code Enforcement and the Gurnee Health Department. DO NOT stay...
