I'm a Combat Veteran, first time to Chicago to attend my son's Navy bootcamp graduation that took place on Thursday, October 24, 2024. I checked into the La Quinta by Wyndham Hotel, 5688 Northridge Dr, Gurnee, IL 60031 two days prior on October 22nd. My original plans were to extend an extra amount of days at the hotel, to spend time with my son while I was in town. On October 26th after returning back to the hotel with my son after a fulfilled morning, while still in his Navy dress blue uniform after taking pictures, we encountered a disgruntled hotel staffer in the hallway. A Ms. Katarina Caragher, whom someone in the La Quinta organization irresponsibly and recklessly thought it was a smart idea to appoint this individual to be the Housekeeping Supervisor there. This person has a disgusting demeanor about herself, very disrespectful, unprofessional and obviously lacks any kind of home training and basic commonsense. I invite any member of management of the regional office to review video and audio footage of this altercation with Ms. Caragher in the hallway and front desk area of the hotel. We were being accused of being a "No Call, No Show", in her words and saying that we checked in on October 3rd 2024???. When I asked if she was looking at the right person and asked if she wanted to see my receipt, Ms. Caragher in anger responded in a disrespectful forceful demeanor, Sir!, no! I dont need to see any receipt, that she is the supervisor there. In which she kept repeating six times and that she is already looking at all the information in the computer. Like a crime was committed or something and we were little children. Ms. Caragher then continued chastising us with wrong information. The more I tried to correct her, the more irritated she became which made me become frustrated with her, due to her treatment toward me and my son during this very special occasion for him. It seemed that Caragher was so HELL bent on being in charge of something and having some kind of ego trip, that she couldn't bring herself to admit that there was some sought of mix up on their part. One of the issues was that another staff member charged one additional night instead of charging all of the extra days requested to the card. So the first words that Caragher said to us as we we were walking toward the room was, "You guys were supposed to have checked out this morning, come see me at the front desk! No greeting or nothing, just that unprofessional disrespectful tone. This person has absolutely no business being in a supervisoral position yet alone that job as she is the textbook example of what YOU DO NOT WANT representing your organization. We felt like we were being targeted, it felt very personal, borderline racial and unnecessary of her treatment toward us. Leading up to October 26, 2024, I had an enjoyable stay there and the hotel staff were all very nice and respectful. Ms. Caragher's nasty behavior ruined our stay, which caused a terrible inconvenience to us having to repack up several items with our pet, load up the car and relocate hotels last minute. I don't usually write customer reviews, but I feel really obligated to report this. Maybe this will prevent further incidents in the future such as this to people who look like us. Or to any family just visiting here to celebrate and support their loved one as the newest members of our military. This individual, Ms. Katarina Caragher should be fired immediately, as she is a cancer not an asset to your...
Read moreEdit: In response to their reply, I booked a non-smoking room, that by default, was pet friendly. Whether or not you book a pet friendly room, if you are on the first floor, you will hear dogs. Also, the ONLY connected room? In the ENTIRE building? I call bull! And if that’s the case, then why was I not notified of this? You’re just making yourself look worse, La Quinta! And no, I will not be speaking to Patrica, as there is no point in that (unless you are offering me some type of refund) as I will never be staying here again!
I chose this hotel to stay at during a trip to Six Flags Great America because it was about $100 cheaper than the surrounding hotels in the area. I quickly learned why that was the case. If you want to hear everything your neighbors do at night, this is the place for you. Upon arrival, I discovered that my room contains a door into a separate room of a complete stranger which does not filter sound at all. You can hear entire conversations through the door no matter how loud they are being. I could hear clear as day someone using their microwave. I was treated to teenagers blasting YouTube videos until 4am, a screaming child, and a couple going through a divorce all on different nights.
They also allow pets on the first floor, so get ready to hear constant barking from untrained ankle biters if you’re unlucky enough to get that floor. If you are on any floor that’s not the top, you can hear every foot step the people above you take. It is an echoing boom that pierces your eardrums and shakes you awake.
Unrelated to noise, you have to REQUEST room service. It is not a complimentary service or part of your stay here, they treat it as a burden you place upon paid employees by asking them to do their job. I personally don’t use this word to describe environments, but the other reviewers who described it as “ghetto” are not wrong. I wish I had spent the extra money for a Hilton or Best Western room instead. It’s a shame because I like the architecture and interior design, but that doesn’t matter when children running around and stomping above you and babies crying through the door 4 ft from your bed keep you up all night.
The breakfast consists of Frosted Flakes, Apple Jacks, waffles, and bread/mini store-bought muffins. It’s nothing to brag about and is good for a quick meal to tide over hunger for a few hours.
Also, on my last night there, the window next to my room was smashed in and the cops were called. I did NOT FEEL SAFE sleeping that night. This is a horrible hotel that thinks security is a joke.
Overall, I will say there is a very good reason this hotel is so much cheaper than the others in the area. I will NEVER be staying at a La Quinta ever again and I recommend you stay away from this hotel if you value relaxation and a good...
Read moreHorrible service. decided to stay here to enjoy a day at 6 flags. First off, the entire hotel has a strong odor of musk and chlorine. We stayed in the room for about 20 mins and left out. Received a call from the lady working at the front desk, Gina while we were no where near the hotel about an hour after claiming that there was weed smells coming from our room. I do admit i had some with me but I NEVER SMOKED IN THE ROOM. It’s common sense. The call was claiming complaints everytime it was passed that it smelled. Gina also claimed that it smelled like someone was in our room smoking, when there was no one in there for the past hour. We cut our night short to return to the hotel because we were told during the call that we needed to leave immediately even though we weren’t there. then Gina says we have until 11pm and rudely hangs up the phone. Having to leave the hotel was never an issue. But the treatment is. We arrive back at the hotel and go to the front desk where Gina informs us she already locked us out. We get a new key and make our way up to the room to gather our belongings and check out. Keep in mind there’s only ONE elevator and it takes about few minutes for it to even be called. We get to our room and begin gathering our things and head out. This takes not even 10 mins. As we are waiting for the elevator to be called to our floor, Gina is already calling again. We do not pick up as we are already in the elevator making our way down. As soon as we make it to the main level Gina is standing at the door of the elevator with her hands on her hips as if there’s a problem. I look at her and let her know we are right here. I walked up to the front desk and returned everything and said to her everything has been returned, so there shouldn’t be any false claims about that, and get ready to walk out. She is following behind us making sure we leave as if we are a threat. I say something to my friend and Gina immediately replies “DID YOU SAY SOMETHING? IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT ME” when I in fact said, “you guys need to fix this elevator.” Getting “kicked out” is not the issue. The way Gina handled herself is. Gina checked us in, and if the “weed smell” was as strong as she claimed, service should’ve been denied, not an hour after you watched us walk out the doors to...
