Much as I hate to admit it, I had a meal that not only surprised me, coming from a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, but really blew me away! I had lunch with my sister, aunt, two cousins, and one cousin's hubby, on Friday, September 28th, at the Holyoke location. This wouldn't have been my first, or even fifth choice of places to meet for lunch, but I'm certainly not sorry, now that we did. They had a Friday special of fried haddock with choice of sides that my sister & I both opted for. She, like me, wouldn't have chosen this place to eat either, but we agreed that it was absolutely a delightful lunch! The haddock fillet was VERY large, thick, perfectly coated with a flour/cornmeal coating, and fried to a golden brown. The mac & cheese side, along with the corn were typically "acceptable", as is always the case at a Cracker Barrel. The fish was the star of this show, for certain! My aunt & one cousin had a burger (their usual when we dine out). My other cousin had the chicken & dumplings, that I sampled. It was not bad! Regardless of the place we met, it was really great to get together with family that we don't often get to see (cousin & her hubby came from Acworth, New Hampshire to meet up with us). The fact that we had a surprisingly great meal was icing on the cake.

The Store: What a cool little shop to go to. They definitely have many unique items that I haven't seen in any other retail stores. The ceiling decor is wild. I would go back again to see what is new for sale in the future. The only fault is they're pricey, so be prepared to drop a few extra bucks. The Restaurant: I have mixed feelings on it. The plus side is the staff is nice, the area is clean, the decor is like no other, and service was timely. My steak was cooked at perfect temperature - always a huge plus. The lemonade is phenomenal. The worst that stood out to me would be the green beans looked like it came out of a very dated can. The texture was mush, the appearance was nauseating, and the taste is exactly what you think it would be; disgusting. When the bread was served we were told they had no plates so we were handed some napkins. The eating area wasn't even half full so I found that to be odd. I also noticed some Servsafe issues when handling cups and plates. A server should always be trained properly to avoid cross contamination. That's day 1 for every restaurant. Because of the store part I'll give a very generous 3 stars. I would probably visit another location again in the future. It just wouldn't be my first choice if I was going to do so.

**Update: Last 3 times I went was a flop Not sure what changed IN A MONTH. This last visit was a totaL deal breaker and I actually left without getting to eat. Two of us, "my" food was wrong so they went to remake. My guest finished eating and I still had no food. I told the manager to take it off my bill seeing I "Never" got any food. Paid for guests meal and left. It wasn't a steak I was waiting for, it was a damn egg. AN EGG. How can something go so wrong in one month? Re-rated! Went there for the first time and my eyes popped when I seen all day breakfast. Their pancakes are so good, soft and fluffy. The eggs were cooked over medium as requested. Hashbrowns are amazing. There are game tables set up for your enjoyment. They also have a Lil gift shop that sells the most unique items. They even sell their pancake mix and syrup. I spotted the original "Moonpies". That was a blast from the past. There was so much in that tiny little store. Everything displayed perfectly. I'll definitely return. Very casual family dining. There is seating outside for relaxing or playing a game.

The Holyoke ma location is usually very good. Today was a total miss :-/ We arrived at approximately 7:30pm tonight. we’ve been coming here for over a decade and always shop while we wait for our drinks and such to get to the table. Tonight was no different. We placed our order with ainsley p, We left our car keys and our place settings in view and headed next door. We were in there for about 10 minutes when I decided to use the bathroom. It had a sign on it that said it was not usable as the staff was cleaning and sanitizing it- no big deal. I decided I could wait. We made a purchase, and headed back to our table only to find no drinks had been left. At this point it had been about 15 minutes. We waited a long while for them to come. I decided to check the bathroom again and the sign was still up. When I came back the waitress came to us and explained that she thought we had left. She brought us our food, and our drinks all together. My ice tea was a little over half full. Annoying but no big deal- I could get a refill right?? We noticed that all of the sides were cold, one of the sides was missing and let her know. She never came back with it. As a matter of fact she didn’t check on us at all for the rest of the night BUT she was very good with the folks behind us. She was clearly choosing to ignore us. Like it was PAINFULLY obvious that she didn’t want to serve us but was quite happy to look after her other tables. Then one of the cars parked in the food pick up spots came on- and it stayed on for the rest of the time we were there which wouldn’t be a big deal but they had their headlights on less than 15 feet away from our table, and in my eyes. I finished my drink and tried to ask for another. She ignored us. I set my glass empty at the end of the table. Nothing. No side, no refill, still no bathroom. I cleared our table so we had some room and she brought us our receipt pretty promptly. I tried for the bathroom again before we left. The bathroom was closed from the time we got there to the time we left. Which is far from cool. I brought my receipt to the cashier and let her know we had been charged for an item we never received- she was very apologetic but told us we would have to get our waitress to change it…we weren’t able to get our waitress to help with anything. We waited for her. And at some point I just gave up. It was just a dollar after all. But with the rest of the experience here I was fed up. I’m sincerely upset at this whole transaction. This place is way better than what they...

Been multiple times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I enjoy the gift shop out front like always. Nice ambience. Went for Breakfast Sunday around 12:30pm. We made reservations online and waited an extra 25 minutes on top of the 30 minute projectiob when we arrived. The place was very busy so I can understand there being a little more chaos and wait. Had to go up front and ask about our seating because it was taking so long. We were say and waited another 15 minutes before being taken care of. Waitress was generally pleasant. We did ask for the Full Breakfast Menu by request as the menu had stated we could do. Waitress said "oh, everything is on the All-Day menu. Regardless if it was or not we did ask. She told us the kitchen was going to take a while which was appreciated. Me and two others got Breakfast. Took about 35 minutes to arrive. Scrambled eggs were average. I did ask for cheese and received maybe half a slice of American on the edge of my eggs. The Breakfast was supposed to come with Biscuits and cornbread which never came. Waitress never came back after our food was dropped off by another staff member and we had finished by the time she returned. Overall the experience was average at best. And for the price well below average. I asked for 4 scrambled eggs. Got the chicken sausage for upcharge (Expected). Cheese was an upcharge. Fresh Fruit was an upcharge and wasn't fresh by any means. I think my breakfast alone was close to 20$. Surely could get a much better value at most other breakfast venues within a 5 mile radius. Was never offered refills. It was afternoon so it was an option. Again arrived at 12:30 and walking out the door 2:30pm. If you value your time and money maybe don't go on a Sunday? I would most likely choose another place for breakfast. This location just isn't efficient for the foot traffic. For anyone reading I will say the Holiday Meals to Take-Home are a pretty solid value...

Food tasted good, server (Trisha) was attentive. We appreciated being (voluntarily) served the complimentary biscuits/corn muffins with butter. Most times that's not the case. The bacon could have been a mite chewier/softer. I have to make a point of asking for CHEWY bacon - otherwise it's so dried out and brittle - you'd swear it came out of a dehydrator. The knife & fork could have been a little sharper - the bacon and pancake were a tad difficult to cut with the utensils I had. The ladies room needs to be gutted. (I obviously can't speak for the men's room. lol) The floor is always greasy & the concern of slipping and falling is always on my mind upon entry. First and foremost, the bathrooms need their own mop & bucket - they should NOT be using the same one used in the kitchen. It is NOT sanitary! I am NOT convinced this (separate buckets/mops/cleaning paraphernalia) is practiced at this western MA location. Second, the toilet hardware/pipes is terribly corroded with green and quite the eyesore. Third, the size of the stalls and how ridiculously low the toilets are to the floor level really leaves something to be desired. For what it's worth - IMO, I think all stalls should provide high toilets and grab bars for safety. Also - access to toilet paper dispensers should be ABOVE the safety rail. Positioned below the safety rail seems UNSAFE in that it forces one to lean forward - what's to prevent the person from falling off the toilet because they have to reach so far forward to get the necessary...
