Wow!! My family and I had been looking forward to visiting the keys and staying at Kon Tiki for Memorial Day weekend. We had pre-booked Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, $500 each night for 2 rooms. Tropical storm Albert formed in the Gulf the Friday we were supposed to go. We called to find out the cancellation policies and if their is anything they could do since their is a Tropical Storm in the Gulf. Told us that the only way they would cancel is if their was a mandatory evacuation. Earlier in the week when we called Nina had stated that if their was a named storm we could cancel otherwise if it's just bad weather nothing they could do. When we spoke to Nancy she said Nina was incorrect and gave us bad information.
Called back again on Friday and spoke with the manager Nancy. Explained the situation to Nancy and asked if their was anyway we could move the weekend. They could keep the $500 deposit and we would just pick another weekend. Nancy wouldn't budge and basically refused to reason or work with me. If it was just normal bad weather I get every business has cancellation policies but this isn't normal. There's a tropical storm in the gulf and the FHP is telling residents of Florida to stay of the roads.
Nancy eventually became very upset and hung up the phone on me because I was asking to speak to an owner and in her words asking to many questions.
George one of the 6 owners did call me back and went over the cancellation policies with me. Asked him if their is any way we can just move the weekends but he wouldn't budge. I then proceeded to ask him why he would rather make $500 by keeping our deposit and having un-happy customers instead of just re-scheduling the booking and making $1500 and having happy customers. Had no answer and simply stated the system wouldn't allow him to do it. I then asked if their is anyway someone could override the system and he said no.
We were really looking to staying at Kon-Tiki since we have never been their before and our first and only experience has been absolutely horrible.
I would never recommend Kon-Tiki to anyone. As a business owner myself their is always a gray area and not everything is so black and white and you should always try to work with your customers or clients.
That is the job of the manager and owner to manage through those gray areas and work with customers. This simply just did not...
Read moreWhere do I begin. Ants, Cockroaches, and.... SCORPIONS!! Right when we checked in, the staff upfront was extremely rude and unwelcoming. We tried to move past the negativity by looking at our beautiful views from room 2. (One of the best rooms at this resort.) During our stay there were sugar ants and little cockroaches all over the rooms. As I showered there was even a few ants on me... But, we are in the keys and right next to the water. It can be understandable. However, even better than ants on you, the guest shower had NO hot water. Cold showers are always great. Along with the main bathroom- yellow water was dispersed. GROSS.
Waking up every morning looking into the water though was nice. We stayed in this room (room 2) from Friday to what was supposed to be Monday. However we had to leave at 11pm Sunday night. Why you may ask. As I am laying on the pull-out mattress watching tv, my brother comes inside to come hang out and next thing you here "OW OW OW OW" I just got stung by a SCORPION. There was a huge scorpion bigger than the size of my hand walking on the bed that I was about to fall asleep in!!!!!!!!! On my bed. I would have been sleeping with a scorpion if it wasn't for my poor brother who had to get stung by one. After calling the emergency number they leave for guests at this resort at about 10pm Sunday night, the man whom we spoke with said, "There is no one we can send your way to help out." Basically after office hours you are on your own.
This was a place of mistrust from the very beginning. For example, the staff didn't believe how many people we said that we're staying in the room. Along, when my brother got stung by a big a** scorpion. The man said "I am not going to contest wether you got stung by a scorpion or not. You must have left the door opened all day." Intending it was our fault the scorpion came in, and we were lying once again. Very ridiculous if you ask me. (FYI we were down in Key West all day long, impossible to leave any doors opened since we were not even home. But, a maid came in every single day and could have definitely brought this creature in.)
If I could give this place a 0 stars I would. For the price we paid to stay here and what we had to deal with was...
