I am a current resident living in 90 Columbus. However, I cannot find it on the map and I have to leave the review under 70 columbus, but 50/70/90 are under the same management team.
If I could give this apartment a zero star, I will.
The only advantage of this apartment is close to PATH, and that's it. The apartment sits at the intersection of Marin Blvd and Columbus Dr, which means this is a very very busy road and you will hear loud fire stuck and police coming by at least 5 times each day. Not to mention weekend farmer's market live music or motorcycles passing by in the midnight. If you want to live in a quiet place, this is definitely not your choice.
The apartment itself is made with cheap materials. Just before the day we moved in to the apartment last year, the management office informed us there was a serious water leak in the building and our apartment was among these affected ones. They said you could use bathroom in other vacant apartments. However, one hour later they said unfortunately there was no vacant apartment in this building and you have to bear a big trash can sitting in your bathroom. It took them a whole week to repair the water leak and repaint walls. Also, there were a lot of scratches on the wall and dirty toilet when I moved in, which means they didn't go through the cleaning process after last tenant moved out.
AC is super noisy and useless. I have to keep AC on all the time during winter time but I still feel cold. It can never be fixed by the maintenance team. Electric bill is around $200 during these month. The wall is super thin and you can nearly hear every word from your neighbors. I do not live at an end unit, which means I will hear sounds from neighbors on both sides. Not to mention your neighbor plays loud music, invites tons of friends coming for party in the midnight.
The apartment building is insecure as other reviewer mentioned. The doorman is only responsible for receiving packages, asking delivery guys to sign, and that's it. It also takes them a day to organize packages received during the daytime. Also, 90 Columbus lobby is full of unpleasant smells, it is a mixture of sewer and trash can smell, and you will see a lot of dead lattenfly...
Read moreI have lived in this building for more than 5 years and recently renewed my lease yet again since the value and the operations of the building is top notch in my option. The staff does a great job trying to make this a great community for the residents. Couple of people that especially have went out their way for me are Shaneeka Porter from the Concierge and Margaret Johnson from management.
There are a lot of buildings in the area that can try to replicate or one up the amenities of Columbus towers, but there are a couple of things that just cannot be beat. You cannot beat the location for anyone that takes the Path into NYC. You're literally on top of grove street path station, and after a long work day in the city or a long night out, as soon as you get off the path, you're home in minutes instead of having to trek home even further. You cant beat the included BASE gym membership as it is the best (and maybe only) full service gym with a fulltime dedicated staff in downtown JC. And its hard to be the summers at Columbus towers. The grills reservations are quite orderly since there is a dedicated staff to ensure all 8 grills are clean and ready to use by the resident that booked them, and also dedicated staff at the pool who are not overbearing with the rules but still sure there aren't any uninvited guests taking up the bleachers.
I think the combination of great building staff, and location/amenities that are hard to beat is what sets the Columbus towers apart from the other building in the area and why I chose to continue...
Read moreWe love our apartment. The location cannot be beat, with the PATH station literally below the building. Downtown JC has great restaurants, bars and cafes within a few minutes walking. We have lived here for 6 months, and we have found the front desk staff to be helpful, especially Shaneeka. While the building is expensive, rent includes access to BASE, which has served as a great amenity. The pool and common areas become quite crowded in the summer, but we knew that before renting here.
Areas of improvement are as follows: 1) Down elevators: while the elevators are incredibly fast, at least one is often down, which really impacts traffic in the morning 2) Security: there is only one person at the front desk, and they also manage all packages, so many people enter the building and amenity areas without any security 3) Closet space and odd layouts: we knew this upon renting, but our unit (as well as many units in the building) has very minimal closet space. The shape of the building also lends itself to odd configurations and difficult-to-use space, so definitely tour the unit before renting
We will likely live here for the next 2 years, as our experience overall has been quite positive. Moreover, as a couple that commutes in opposite directions (to Union Square in Manhattan and Rutgers in Newark), proximity to Grove Street means we both have ~30...
