Coastline Cottages at Poipu Kauai — Hotel in Kauai

Zero stars if that was an option.||||Coastline Cottages is either 1) completely incompetent, 2) staffed by malicious liars, or 3) both. ||||I booked a condo in Kauai on VRBO for 8 nights in May through this company. Unfortunately, my wife and I tested positive for Covid about a week before the trip, so I reached out to Lori and Barbara at Coastline Cottages to see what my options were. They informed me that I was past the cancellation window and couldn't get a refund (totally fair), but that if I canceled the reservation and they were able to re-book those nights, I'd get a partial refund.||||So far so good, right? Seems like a responsible thing to do for a business in the era of Covid. ||||The booking was during a very busy time of the year for Hawaii tourism, so I was confident they'd be able to re-book most of those nights. Which is exactly what happened – another guest booked the property for 6 of the 8 nights we were supposed to be there.||||A couple of weeks after the guest's stay, I reached out to Lori and Barbara through VRBO and inquired about the partial refund. They let me know that the other guests had completed their stay and said they'd get a check in the mail to me for approximately $2500. This was on June 18th. ||||10 days later, the check hadn't arrived, so I followed up through VRBO. No response for days. I called them multiple times, and each time Lori would answer and say that she was sure Barbara had sent the check, but that she would double-check with her and call me back later that day. She never called back once. After countless calls and emails, they eventually came up with the story that the check must have been "lost in the mail". ||||Uh huh, sure.||||I called back yet again and offered to pay for UPS shipping for a replacement check so we could actually track it, and they refused. I offered to accept payment through Venmo, Paypal, or Zelle, and they refused. In the approximately six weeks since they supposedly sent the check, I've followed up literally dozens of times over the VRBO platform and over the phone, and at this point they're just ignoring my calls, voicemails, and emails. ||||This company is unresponsive, incompetent, and shady, and they owe me $2500. There are plenty of other condos and hotels on Kauai – do not even think about doing business with...

Wir waren im Januar 2012 auf Kauai und haben uns für die coastline cottages entschieden. Normalerweise wären uns diese zu teuer gewesen. Wir haben spät gebucht und ab dem 04. Januar gab es Spezialpreise und bei 7 Übernachtungen war die letzte Nacht kostenfrei. So hat man schon mal die tax raus. Wir hatten das Studio im Turtle Cove gebucht. Es war grösser als ich gedacht hatte mit einem tollen Ausblick. Ob "Ocean front"oder nur "Ocean view" da kann man sich drüber streiten. (Das ist für Amerikaner einen kritischer Punkt und als Europäer muss man da aufpassen, Ocean View kann heissen - 5 km vom Wasser weg und man sieht trotzdem den Ozean, "Ocean Front " dagegen ist direkt am Wasser).||Das Studio liegt direkt am Wasser und zwar an einem kleinen Bach der in den Pazifik mündet. Die Mündung des Baches ist geschätzt knapp 100 m entfernt. Vom Balkon hat man direkten Blick auf den Pazifik als auch auf besagten Bach. Das Studio selbst ist bis auf eine Ausnahme sehr gut ausgestattet. Holzfussboden , gute Einrichtung, bequemes Sofa, sehr bequemes Bett, es gibt einen Extra- Raum den wir als Ankleidezimmer genutzt haben dieser Raum ist mit einem grossen Wandschrank diversen Komoden als auch einem Bett und einem weiteren Sofa ausgestattet.||Der Hauptraum ist mit einem grossen Bett, grosser Samsung Breitbild Fernseher - haben wir kein einziges mal benutzt insofern weiss ich nicht wie gut das Bild ist - DVD Player, Bose Radio, Couchgarnitur und diversen Lampen ausgestattet. Alle Fenster sind mit Moskitonetzen versehen. Die Klimaanlage gibt es nur im Ankleidezimmer - wir haben diese nicht vermisst - dafür einen geräuscharmen Deckenventilator.||Das Studio macht einen ausgesprochen hochwertigen Eindruck bis auf die Küche. Die Küche passt einfach nicht zu diesem Objekt. Klar es ist fast alles da was man benötigt - in den restlichen Zimmern harmoniert alles hier kommt es einem so vor als hätte jemand mal geschaut was er über hat und hat dies in die Küche gestellt. Keine Küchenkombination sondern Einzelgeräte. Der Kühlschrank ist für US Verhältnisse klein, was ok wäre wenn er denn ein vernünftiges Eisfach hätte. Eine normale Packung Eiscreme (1 quart = knapper Liter) passt nicht. Der Herd ist ein Tischgerät welches auf der Arbeitsfläche steht insofern die ohnehin kleine Arbeitsfläche weiter beschneidet -leider gibt es in der Nähe keine Steckdose man muss das Kabel durch den Raum legen. Dann gibt es noch eine Mikrowelle und eine kleinen Minibackofen der auch als Toaster dient, einen Mixer und eine Kafeemaschine. Den Minibackofen bedient man am besten auf Knien da man sich ansonsten was im Kreuz holt.||Klar wir haben nur ein Studio gebucht - hier hätte man mit minimalem Aufwand mehr draus machen können. Das kostet dem studio die 5 Sterne die ich sonst vergeben hätte so werden es halt nur 4.||Ansonsten haben wir uns eine Woche wohl gefühlt. Die grünen Seeschildkröten waren täglich da, diese schwimmen in dem kleinen Bach und kriechen auf die steine und ruhen sich dann aus. Der Rekord waren 14 Schildkröten auf einmal und wir reden hier nicht von 5 cm Rückendurchmessser sonder eher 50 cm.||Man schaut wie schon gesagt vom Balkon auf den Bach als auch die Bucht und den Pazifik. In der Bucht sind regelmässig Taucher und Schnorchler unterwegs. Tip1: Direkt neben den Coastline Cottages gibt es die Resortanlage Whalers Cove. Man geht dort auf den Parkplatz und auf der linken Seite gibt es einen öffentlichen Zugang zu der kleinen Bucht. Eine Treppe bis fast zum Wasser - da man hier in den Bach einsteigt ist das Wasser ein wenig kalt. 5 m weiter mischt sich dann der warme Pazifik mit dem kalten Süsswasser. Die Sicht ist in diesem Mischbereich ein wenig eingeschränkt da sich durch das kalte Süsswasser und warme Salzwasser unter Wasser ein Schliereneffekt ergibt, nicht erschrecken wenn man eine Schildkröte sieht. ||In der näheren Umgebung gibt es diverse Strände, eine gute Infrastruktur und diverse Restaurants.||Uns hat es hier super gefallen - die Insel ist ein Traum||Tip2: Unbedingt ein Fernglas einpacken - vom Balkon aus kann man...

From the second we opened the gate and stepped into the gardens surrounding the pool we were instantly on Island Time. The house is beautiful and well designed with two guest bedrooms each with their own en-suites on one side of the house. The Master bedroom is located on the opposite side. The Master bathroom is amazing which included a tub situated next to french doors that opened up to it's own private outside deck and rain shower. Everything is so beautifully decorated. There is plenty of comfortable seating inside and out. The kitchen is well stocked so we made a run to Costco and local farmers markets for supplies. We had our meals at 'home' on the outside lanai. When we ventured out to eat there is a short walking path next to the house which leads to Kukui'ula Village and plenty of dining options. Late night walks to get Lappert's ice cream was common. We would walk to the beach or spouting horn in the morning to watch the sunrise and walk to the Beach House for the sunsets.
