It's pretty hard to book this place because it's by far the better of the two Wyndham properties. Unless you're lucky you won't be able to get in here even months in advance; in fact, it used to be one of those properties you have to make a special call to beg for and wasn't bookable online.||It's clean, expansive, and generally a nice place to be. I don't normally like to just hang around the hotel properties but it was totally worth doing, here. There are plenty of walks, paths, things to look at and do. They have a nice little boardwalk along the water with lounge chairs and the whole property is a garden.||Nearly the entire property is wheelchair-accessible but over time the paths and ramps have gotten worse. Building entrances usually have ramp damage so there's a "lip" you clonk into on the way in or out of the buildings. Most paths are in decent shape but you'll definitely have to traverse some of the rough, bone-rattling pavers to get to certain areas. At one end there's a lot of sand on the boardwalk so be careful you don't get that in your motors. You'll be forced into parking lots and streets periodically and there are some awkward speed bumps to get over. The front door of the lobby is a ramp, but it's shaped in such a way that if you aren't careful when traversing sideways across it you'll slide out into the driveway.||There are no elevators and the stairs they call "gentle" are just awkwardly treaded, shallow but long. They're weird enough that my wife's watch gave her zero credit for climbing flights of stairs. Possibly against code but safe. Competition for blue parking is fierce. Most buildings, three stories of suites, have only one blue!!||The rooms were fine, for the most part. The AC in the bedroom was barely functional at all and the fan in there squeaked and rattled, and the bed was suuuuper squeky (careful about hanky-panky!) but the bedroom itself was spacious. The rest of the suite was fine except we had to throw all the interior doors open to get enough AC to keep the bedroom cool.||Appliances and laundry were all functional (except for the icemaker) and clean but there is NO KETTLE. You will boil water on the stove to make coffee or you'll have to use a conventional coffeemaker machine. Same with tea or any other hot beverage. Furniture was clean and comfortable—better than average for a timeshare—and the rooms are pretty quiet. Even the noisy neighbor family that moved in halfway through our stay was barely audible at all. The deck is small but pleasant. The chickens are generally quiet and not aggressive, in fact they're cute and keep to themselves!||You will get ambushed by sprinklers. The sprinklers are badly arranged and will shoot at you at the most unexpected moments. I was hit directly by sprinklers, causing damage to my chair, on the beachfront, on paths, sitting off in smoking areas... the irrigation is poorly maintained and misaligned everywhere.||The grills are nearly non-functional. The ignition systems are broken and there's some kind of gas "timer" for them that only works intermittently. Bring one of those starter lighters so you can get the fire going.||The restaurant on property is good. It used to be amazing, my favorite on the whole island, but now it's just good. It's nice and there are shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. The Longs nearby is dilapidated and kind of gross but everything else nearby is fine.||Overall, if we could have back-to-backed here instead of having to split our time with the other (super disgusting) property, we would have been really happy even with the minor flaws. The wear and tear is starting to show but this place is still in...
Read moreFirst time to Kauai after having spent many vacations on other islands. We were looking forward to experiencing what this island had to offer. We were staying in a two bedroom unit through the girlfriends parents time share. We were on the second floor overlooking the pool area, but were also able to see the ocean from our balconies.
Check-In was quick and easy with no issues. The unit we stayed in had two bedrooms, divided by a living room/kitchen in the middle. All your basic utensils and cutlery could be found in the kitchen. Beds were comfortable and getting around the resort was easy enough.
If you like going for walks, there is a path just outside the resort along the water that you can take North or South. This path consists of cement in some places, dirt paths in others, and also brings you to a few beaches.
No issues with the location of the resort. It's located in Wailua, in between Kapaa and Lihue (closer to Kapaa). You could walk to the downtown area of Kapaa, but it is a bit of a walk (30 minutes or so). There are stores near Kauai Cost that you can go and do grocery shopping at including a Safeway and Foodland. There's also a few different restaurants located nearby, though we did not check them out and made our own dinner most of the time.
Very close to the coconut marketplace, where you can go to a number of different stores (including an ABC store), rent water equipment (snorkels, body boards, etc.) and just take a stroll through. They do have a farmers market on twice a week there.
If you've read reviews of this place, you know that this review wouldn't be complete without bringing up the roosters. Yes, there are roosters everywhere on the island, it's not just localized to this resort. And yes, you will more than likely hear them at 6am in the morning. You can keep your fan blowing in your room to try and drown out their morning calls, but in the end, you'll have to learn to deal with it.
Overall, it was a good resort with no major complaints. There's BBQ's near the pool areas that you can use, and also a bar, which I found it to be on the pricier side at $8-$10 / drink, when I can buy a case of beer / pina colada mix at the store for a fraction of that price. The girlfriend's parents tried out the restaurant and said they would not be in any rush to go back again. They found the restaurant to be somewhat expensive for the quality of food you get, and stated that they weren't entirely happy with...
Read moreIt’s been several years since we have been back in Kauai and we were looking forward to bringing our kids to this amazing place we remembered. Unfortunately, our dream paradise was brought to utter disappointment.
After our second night, we found ants all over the floor in one of the bedrooms. We went to the front desk to report the issue to Trini. She said they can send a maintenance person to spray and clean the area. We said okay and went off to our owners update meeting which was in the next room. After being in our meeting for over an hour, we had gone to the front desk again to check on status of our room. It was only then they informed us that they never went in because our room door had the Do Not Disturb sign up. We totally understood that policy and fully respected it. So we asked Trini why she didn’t call us on our cell as they have our number, to let us know. We were literally sitting in the next room in their restaurant area. We could have ran upstairs to remove to door sign. Instead of apologizing, Trini just looked at us like we were crazy and like we did something wrong. She never mentioned anything to us about the door sign or asked us if it was on/off when we first reported it. If we would have known this, we would have gone back to the room, to remove it, then go to our meeting. The worst part, was that two days later, we had ant issue again in the same room. It was on the bed, the night stand, and the carpet. This time, they came in again to spray and we had to have housekeeping change out the sheets, vacuum, etc. The maintenance crew and housekeeping were very friendly but that person at the front desk, Trini, was horrible. She was called out for not doing her job and she had the nerve to cop an attitude. If she can’t provide customer service then don’t hold a customer service role!
This resort has so much potential!!! Since our last visit, we noticed some up-keeping issues. There were patches of the pool/spa that were peeling off. The appliances were dirty and rusting. Overall the rooms needed a deep cleaning. Again, has so much potential. A great Beach location with impeccable views, lawn area with hammocks and chairs. Has this wonderful marketplace with stores, restaurants and more. Just seems like they’ve let the place go which is also reflected on certain staff’s don’t...
