I do not usually leave reviews, but given that Will stopped our yoga classes over 6 times (literally) to ask for a review, I thought I’d go ahead. First- the good: the location and beach were fantastic and it was free through our hotel. The bad: Will was the worst yoga instructor I’ve ever experienced. All of his running commentary was in poor taste and made me feel like I was watching someone bomb a standup comedy routine instead of doing relaxing yoga at the beach. For example, halfway through the class he made it seem like it was over and when people looked at their watches, he said that because some people had paid, he guessed he would continue the class for the full hour. Apparently, he also made the same “joke” the day before so this is just part of his “hilarious” routine. He also goaded the class into a “holding up your leg” competition- claiming “if you thought yoga wasn’t a competitive sport, you’re wrong.” It turns out this was all just in service of his punchline that “the winner gets free yoga every night they stay at the hotel.” He often paused awkwardly and waited for the class to fill in the blank- e.g “next we’re going to reach for our….” pause class: “thighs?” The actual flows were fine (but a bit choppy) but instruction was poor. He speed-talked like he was at an auction and didn’t do nearly enough explanation for the many new students. Apparently he teaches at the Kauai Shores M,W,F- I would avoid...
Read moreI stayed for 10 nights at Kauai Shores, and was delighted with the Yoga sessions every morning at 8:30. I loved having different instructors - each bringing their different style and energy to the practice - and each providing gifts that I needed. Will's humor and more Hatha style energized me for the day and Anya provided a more relaxing, restorative Yin - but still challenging start to the day.
If you go to Kauai for vacation, and yoga is something that is drawing you to stay at Kauai Shores, see if you can plan your trip to include a Sunday. There are special Sunday sessions - incorporating sound therapy or crystals sometimes. Absolutely amazing. Kauai Yoga on the Beach provided the stretching and centering that really made this vacation sing for me. Being able to practice regularly, and a short walk from my room really was the best part of my trip (and I did some awesome tours), but nothing is as powerful as the internal landscape - even in...
Read moreWe took a lot of yoga classes during our last trip to Kauai and our favorite class was the Wednesday sunset class with Renata. Renata is a wonderful teacher: very competent and skilled as a yogi, yet also unassuming, warm, friendly, and down-to-earth. The people taking the her class were also all very nice. We felt totally comfortable, welcome, and at home amongst her regulars, who even gave us some suggestions for exploring the island. Really great class, and right outside our door as we were staying at the Coral Reef. Highly recommended for all levels of yogis. We will definitely be taking more of Renata's classes next time we...
