I would have given it 2 stars had it not been for Sam, the friendly front desk receptionist who booked our garden/mountain view room, and Rey, the kindest housekeeper you will ever meet. We were debating if we should book a room at this hotel or Kauai Inn and Spa resort but because Sam was so nice we decided to go ahead and book here. When we first arrived, we were expecting to be greeted with that same friendly and kind spirit like we had encountered with Sam but that wasn’t the case so we just went through the motions until we were handed our room keys. When the front desk receptionist handed us our keys, he informed us that the pool which faces our balcony was being remodeled. I thought that's fine since the upgrade was for a garden/mountain view. I wasn't expecting a "pool view." And furthermore, the pool area that was in use was pretty nice with a large spa next to it. When we walked into our room, we were pleasantly surprised. It was well kept and very clean with a few upgrades. We were expecting to be able to sit outside and look at the garden/Mountain view while drinking our coffee but instead we got the big bright lights from the remodel early in the morning (Although you can tell the construction team was trying to be considerate of the guests) and part of the view was literally obstructed by big boxes with new chairs in them for the remodel so when we were in our room we had to always keep the curtains drawn. I spoke to the manager who in my opinion did her best to try to "make things right." I just think there is a disconnect and the manager isn't in tune with what's going on around her because I'm saying the big bright construction lights are on at about 5am and she is saying they don't start working until 7am. I took a picture of the big bright lights at 6am. The manager did give us a credit for the upgraded room. I just think it’s unacceptable to place guest near a construction area. Thankfully for us, we were never in our room because Kauai is so amazing and exploring the island was our priority. Kauai island is one of the best places we have ever traveled too. I highly recommend visiting Kauai. Much needed vacation. Mahalo

Zero stars if I could.. Spoiled my whole vacation. Everything was going fine til Day 2. Requested an additional blanket after our first night here, and woke up to being eaten alive by bed bugs. (See attached photos) Reported the issue to the front desk along with showing them all the bites and swellings on my arms and legs. Long and the short to that was being given a new room. The receptionists tried to completely downplay the issue. My wife later went back to talk to a manager. The manager was even worse and actually tried to convince my wife, who is a doctor, that these were mosquito bites and not bed bugs. We were told that they would waive the resort fee and gave us breakfast vouchers for the remaining 3 days we would be here. The receptionist called us in the evening, as the manager didn't even have the courtesy to follow up with us, and informed us that they had done a room check, and found zero bed bugs. (Of course they didn't) You (the reviewer) can decide for yourself if these are mosquito or bed bugs bites after perusing the photos.. My holiday was completely ruined as I could not use the pool or the hot tub as my wounds were open and oozing. Plus the total discomfort plus loss of sleep, caused by the constant itching. Imagine being in Kauai and just languishing in your hotel room as your legs and arms are itching like crazy.. Yup, exactly the kinda vacation I'd planned on.. well done, "Kauai Shores Hotel".. Cannot fathom that the tactics now followed by the Management of this hotel is to turn the complaint of the customer on its head, and instead accuse the Customer of lying or concocting a story as they could not see any evidence of bed bugs in the room. What about the evidence on my body? Both physical and photographic !!! The Hotel staff even took photos with their own camera !! Modus operandi now is perhaps to infuriate the Customer so we lose our temper and they can then call the Authorities to have us removed forcefully..??? I'm most angry about the insinuation by the Hotel Manager that we were somehow making this all up.

HOTEL: The parking situation is awful. Something needs to be done about it. We felt like prisoners at this resort, reluctant to go on adventures, for fear of not being able to find parking when we got back, to the point that we considered ending our vacation early or going to another resort. The spaces are far too small for most rental cars and very few are going to trust a rental car to a valet service. This put a huge damper on our vacation and we seriously regret choosing Kauai Shores and will not be recommending it to any of our friends. We saw a lot of cars dinged and dented from people trying to get in and out of spaces, or even getting out of their cars once in a space. Do better for your guests. You cannot call your destination a relaxing getaway if guests are constantly living in fear for their vehicles or even if they'll have someplace to park when they get back from an excursion. The laundry room needs an immediate update. Three machines for the entire resort is not enough and we spend a huge portion of one of our days just waiting for a machine. When we finally got one, 2 drying cycles and our clothes were still wet, only to find out that machine should've been marked out of order. The housekeeping staff ended up taking our clothes to their dryer to finally get it finished (huge kudos to the housekeeping staff!). When we went to book our room, there was no way to choose between a single and two beds. When we called, they said that they could not guarantee a choice. The only way to guarantee 2 beds was upgrading to a kitchenette, which was $100 more per night. You know what types of beds you have, you know which rooms have them. There should be a separate booking option for single bed and 2 beds, like other hotels do. The bathroom door, is opaque glass, so if you plan on going to the bathroom at night, and want to turn on the light, it's going to wake up your partner. Plus, if you're shy, you can see shapes and shadows through the door. Why they thought this was a good idea is beyond me. The only place to sit comfortably in the room was one lone desk chair. The seating at the table consisted of ottoman squares, with no back rests. RESTAURANT: While we were there, they went from menu service to QR code service partway through our stay, which told us, yep, the prices went up. They did provide paper menus if you ask, though. If you are diabetic, this is not the place for you. They do not provide sugar free syrup for breakfast, and their sugar free soda machine kept breaking down. For the most part, servers did not share the Aloha spirit. Only one server seemed to actually enjoy being there and engage with the customers. The rest basically slapped down a menu, took the order, and handed you a check, without checking partway through if you needed a drink refilled. We did enjoy the live music offered, but the noise from the bar often overshadowed it entirely.

Look elsewhere if you want a...

Aloha, Viewers|| I highly recommend Kauai Shores Hotel to any visitor or island resident. I was previously in the hospitality industry and have come to understand the key factors that contribute to any positive guest experience. I have listed each factor along with my experience for all to review ||Location | Kauai Shores Hotel is located within the Kawaihau district of Kauai, also known as the Royal Coconut Coast. This oceanfront hotel is within minutes of unique restaurants and various shopping experiences. This Hotel is connected to Ke Ala Hele Makalae coastal bike path which extends 8 miles along the coast. As you adventure on the path you will connect to historic Kapaa town made famous when voted America's Prettiest Town by Forbes Magazine. || Kauai Shores Hotel is located next to Coconut Marketplace a convenient and favorite stop for many visitors and island residents. The Coconut Marketplace features a variety of unique shops and restaurants along with live Hawaiian music and hula performances weekly. ||Amenities | Kauai Shores Hotel provides guests amenities that will make your stay both comfortable as well as keep you connected. Featuring complimentary valet services, a comfortable open air lobby, Seating for Guests, Concierge Services, Convenience Store, Lava Lava Beach Club Restaurant, Wifi Access, Swimming Pool, Large Jacuzzi, Pool Towels, Laundry Facilities, and most importantly Guest Service Members who are friendly and respectful. ||Guests Suite| I chose Kauai Shores Hotel as my choice of accommodations to celebrate my Father's day weekend on Kauai as well as to escape my home renovations currently being conducted at my place of residence on Kauai. The standard Guest Suite was very comfortable and spacious featuring upgraded furniture and modern amenities with spacious outdoor balconies that give you a sense of space. | |Guest Suite with Kitchenette| I later extended my stay and was upgraded to a suite featuring a kitchenette which I really enjoyed. This suite featured apartment size appliances such as Refrigerator and Freezer, Full Size Kitchen Sink, Microwave, Toaster, Skillet, Ceramic dishes and utensils. This was a welcomed surprise as these items allowed me a sense of being home away from home. And I will mention that in the Guest Suite with Kitchenette the bathroom features a soaking tub. Which again was a welcomed surprise as it gave me a moment to soak and relax my tired body.||Conclusion | I highly recommend Kauai Shores Hotel for island residents seeking to enjoy an island staycation. As well as visitors seeking a more casual atmosphere on the Eastern Region of Kauai also known as the Royal Coconut Coast. || Mahalo to management and service members of Kauai Shores Hotel for making our stay a home away from home. We look forward to returning. ||Joseph K Figaroa Corporation | ...

The location is great, 15 mins from the LIH airport. It's close to Coconut Marketplace, which is just next to its property. It has its own small beach. They have 2 pools and an in-house famous restaurant (Lava Lava Beach Restaurant). The staff is great and provided lots of helpful tips and suggestions. However, I felt they could have done something to our concern. The buildings are old, and the rooms are small and rustic. The bathroom is small with no microwave. Seems like these have not been upgraded. Bathroom toilet would continuously make water flowing sound though which was irritating. Also, we found roaches on the wall as well as creeping on the carpet, which, considering the environment, I guess is normal though we were on the 2nd floor. The bad part...they advertise rooms as ocean facing, Pool facing, and Garden facing and each category of rooms is priced differently however the views are different within the same type. Hence, not all rooms facing pool will have great pool view. We booked through Costco for 4 people with pool facing, and we requested 2 beds at least. When we reached, we were given pool facing rooms with the option of 1 king bed for 4 of us, facing the front pool and the other option of 2 queen beds but facing the rear pool. Definitely, 1 king bed would not work out for us, but the view was great. Requested for 2 queen bed room facing front pool, but they simply said all are booked, which I don't think was true. We had to take the other 2 queen bedrooms facing a rear small pool with an obstructed view due to 2 pool umbrellas. Thus, if a hotel has room rate based on views, then charging the same rate for the rear pool view and the front pool view is not fair. We felt let down with the room provided facing rear pool. Also, it was more concerning as pictures showed the front pool on Costco Travel site, and I don't remember if they say anywhere that the pool rooms can be either rear or front. Additionally, room service was fine, and the valet service was fine, but parking in the property was tough. Seems like they do t have enough parking spots for the guests, and we had to struggle to find parking when we would return in the evening. Yes, valet helps, which is free, but they do say they work on gratituties. They also have free filter water for you to fill, as well as a free beach towel. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but it could have been better if front pool facing rooms were given to us. I did try to book another pool facing in this hotel, and it was available, making me think they had it but...
