During a recent family trip to the beautiful island of Kauai, we discovered a gem of a restaurant called Chicken in a Barrel. It quickly became a highlight of our vacation, providing not just a meal, but a memorable dining experience that perfectly complemented the island's charm.
Located in a picturesque setting, Chicken in a Barrel offers a warm, family-oriented atmosphere that is both welcoming and relaxed. As we were searching for a great place to sit down and enjoy the wonderful weather, this restaurant stood out for its inviting outdoor seating area. It was a pleasure to enjoy our meal surrounded by the hospitality of both other tourists and friendly locals, all of whom seemed to share our enthusiasm for the establishment.
One of the standout features of Chicken in a Barrel is their unique beer tap process. This self-serve system made it incredibly easy to pour ourselves a nice, cold drink, adding a fun and interactive element to our dining experience. The variety of beers available was impressive, ensuring that there was something to suit everyone's taste.
The star of the show, however, was undoubtedly the chicken. Cooked to perfection, it was some of the best chicken we've ever eaten. Each piece was incredibly flavorful, juicy, and tender, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to quality and their unique barrel-cooking method. The smoky aroma and the well-balanced seasoning elevated the taste to a whole new level. Both of my daughters gave it an enthusiastic two thumbs up, a testament to just how delicious it was.
In addition to the fantastic food and drink, the overall vibe of Chicken in a Barrel contributed greatly to our positive experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, enhancing the warm, community feel of the place. The combination of great food, a relaxed atmosphere, and the beautiful outdoor setting made it a perfect spot for families looking to enjoy a meal together.
If we ever return to Kauai, Chicken in a Barrel will undoubtedly be at the top of our list of places to revisit. I strongly recommend it to any families who enjoy good food and the outdoors. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, Chicken in a Barrel delivers an experience that is both satisfying...
Read moreI was sucked in by the yummy smell of BBQ. My husband and I ordered the chicken and rib plate. Came with half a chicken breast, 2 ribs, scoop of brown rice, macaroni salad and chili. We ordered a side of cornbread. We were both really disappointed. Ribs - had no flavor. They are not basted with any bbq. You get the bbq sauce on the side. But this makes for very tasteless meat. Can't taste any seasoning on them. Chicken-it was OK.. Also not basted and lacked flavor. Brown rice - it was a smushy scoop that could use salt. Chili- also a pass. Bitter and sour. Low on the condiments. Had 2 forkfulls and made me feel bloated. *Macaroni salad *- again, no flavor. Really needs more mayo and some salt. BBQ sauces were tasty - probably because they didn't make it there. Corn bread-yummy! Really enjoyed the bread. Although I wish some butter spread was an option. Beers on tap. - my husband is a big fan of mango cart. We buy it at home. Unfortunately it tasted watered down. He poured it out and tried another beer. Also tasted watered down. I'm not saying they watered it down, that's a big accusation I don't want to make, but it definitely tasted watered down to my husband and I. He also poured out the 2nd beer. We still paid for it tho. =/ Overall it was a waste of money and a perfectly good hunger that could have been better suffieced elsewhere with a meal that we could have enjoyed. Hope this review helps fix what's lacking. It has a great location and a cute setup that can be enjoyed with the right food. The varying reviews might be from inconsistencies in food taste...
Read moreRead moreDelicious food, great service, and a lot of fun! We stopped here on our last afternoon in Kauai. I stopped in early because I have many food allergies (40) and needed to ask detailed questions about the ingredients to find out if I could eat here. The staff were not only helpful in answering my questions, but since I was lucky enough to arrive before they had mixed up all the burger meat and seasonings (which contain some things I'm allergic to), they made a special patty for me with just meat and salt and set it aside for the dinner hour. That was above and beyond, and it was so nice to actually be able to eat out for once. My family (who have no allergies) got the barbeque beef, chili, cornbread, and a burger with fries. We all loved our food and my fiance and I enjoyed the beer wall. What a great idea! We were also lucky enough to get there on a day when the hula school did a show right next to Chicken in a Barrel, so we got dinner and a show! I'll definitely come here again if I'm back on the island and I'll look them up when I'm in Northern...
