This is a good hotel overall. The check in was quick and easy and parking was easy to find. The front desk people are very nice and helpful. The room is rather large and had plenty of room. We had the two queen beds and there was a chair as well. It was large for a double queen room. The beds are comfy and the sheets are soft as mentioned in a previous review. Each bed only had 2 pillows but the front desk brought 2 more when I requested them. They came with firm pillows and the front desk brought soft pillows. The AC is on the wall and the controls are there too. Keep that in mind as many Holiday Inn's have controls on the wall now and that way you aren't looking around the room for it. The AC takes a while to cool down the room even on high fan. The carpet was soft and it had a large TV with the channels in alphabetical order (more hotels need to do this). The bathroom was clean and the soaps that came with it, were nice. I wish the shower had better pressure though. Plus the shower head is only 5 foot 8 feet high which makes showering a bit harder than one would expect. ||||We were on the second floor. I heard no hallway noise but I could hear the room above us walking around. It sounded like they were stomping around but from other reviewers this just seems to be how it is. That was much louder than I expected. There was no road noise since the hotel is located a ways back off Highway 87. ||||The breakfast was nice with omlettes, sausages, biscuits, and cereals. I liked it and they kept it well stocked. The room has a Keurig which is very nice. There is also coffee in the front area that is always available. Check out is at noon. We were going to stay in Fredericksburg but there were no hotels and the location is 20 minutes away and much more affordable than Fredericksburg. Being off Highway 87 and I-10 puts it in an easy to get...
Read moreWe came into town for a wedding in Fredricksburg. The hotels in Fredricksburg were easily $150 MORE than this property which is only about 30 minutes away. So first, this hotel is a great value.
It is newly renovated and they've done a great job with all of the rooms. My wife and I traveled with our newborn and because of the divided room, we were able to put him down away from the light - a big issue in most hotel rooms. So second, it was a great room. It was clean, modern, and spacious.
We were going to go out to breakfast at the nearby Cracker Barrel (one of our faves) but decided to pass it up because the breakfast provided at the hotel was fantastic. I had biscuits and gravy which were delicious and fresh with crispy bacon, fruit, juice, and good coffee. My wife had a cinnamon roll and fruit with eggs and bacon. All it all great. (If you add the value of what we would have paid for breakfast the next morning into the room - probably $30 w/ tip - it makes the room all that better of the value).
Now I only have one major complaint about this location which compared to how much we enjoyed the rest of our stay isn't the biggest deal in the world. I've been working out pretty regularly and really look forward to my morning workouts. I didn't expect a full gym with squat rack and bench press, but I hoped for some dumbbells. Unfortunately, the fitness center was a small room with low ceilings, poor ventilation, and very little equipment. They had three older machines - treadmill, bike, and elliptical - and two workout bands (one of which was broken). I was still determined to get a workout in, so I ended up doing a bodyweight workout, which I probably could have done in my room and been more comfortable.
All in all this was a GREAT location and we enjoyed our time there. If you're not looking to workout, this is a true value for the...
Read moreThe rooms are nice and spacious we stayed in 223 and it had a second room that was really the same room as there is no divider. There is a couch and second television but using both televisions on differential channels is not practical as the sounds would compete. The upper two floors had nice spacious balconies with two chairs and a table. The pool is a beautiful Texas shaped pool with hot tub. The carpet appeared new but some of the furniture was outdated and needed to be replaced. Now for the really big negatives. The bed was horrible! It was the worse most worn out bed I have ever had the pleasure of crippling me. It sank about 10-12 inches and was about like sleeping on a hammock except with no support. The floor above us squeaked with every step the people above us took. In the early morning before we drowned out the noise with the television it kept us up. There was only one movie channel, another negative. They did have some nice biscuits and sausage cream gravy but that still wasn't enough to make the fold over taco looking yellow things full of cheese they call eggs worth eating even though I tried to eat them at the same time. I can't believe Holiday Inn is all in with these so called eggs. This must be a brother-in-law deal with an executive's relative that provides them. They are striking out on the number one breakfast food people on the road are looking for, eggs. The attendant could cook a large pan of scrambled eggs made from fresh eggs instead of this frozen and thawed goop. My advice is stay on the top floor to avoid floor noise, and sit on the bed and if it is bad go immediately back down and demand another room with a newer mattress or get your money and hit the road. I wish I had instead of hurting for days afterward. I was not offered points or water or recognized as a Platinum member. It's time to sell this lemon to...
