My wife and I, along with the entire wedding party, stayed at Ambrosia Inn Key West for a wedding weekend recently. I've been to Key West a number of times, and stayed at various places, but nothing as wonderful, relaxing, charming, and comfortable as Ambrosia. As soon as we arrived, our host, Lee, was immediately our best friend. She helped with everything, from giving us a tour of the entire grounds, to getting us a highly coveted parking spot on the street. Our room was spacious and decorated exactly how you would want a Keys bungalow to resemble. The bed was extremely comfortable, which is such a rarity when we travel these days. It also came with all of the conveniences one would care for when staying for the weekend. The bathroom was also spacious, had a huge jacuzzi tub / shower combo, and let me tell you: I judge a hotel on TWO THINGS. Water temperature and water pressure. Ambrosia gets 5 stars out of 5 for both of those. It was so great to come back to the hotel after a night of partying and be able to just blast away the sun, sand, and sleepiness with that amazing shower. There are a number of pools hidden amongst the spread out campus of Ambrosia, and each one kind of feels like a private little oasis, never too crowded and just what the doctor ordered after a day / night of walking the streets of Key West. We found ourselves hanging out there each night, and it is one of the things I'll miss the most thinking back on this weekend. We travel pretty often, and we have a ton of perspective on what makes a place good or bad, and sometimes when we're lucky, what makes it great. I can say with absolute conviction that Ambrosia is definitely in the great category. From it's perfect location near the heart of Duval and the bar / restaurant scene, to the amazing customer service we received from Lee and her team during the entirety of our stay, we have already decided this is 100 percent going to be where we stay the next time we visit Key West, and we are very much looking forward to that trip! Thank you Lee, and Ambrosia, for a truly...
Read moreThe room was old and musty. WiFi was spotty. Tv did not work. Two old window air conditioners running constantly and loudly. Air conditioning could not keep Up at 75 degrees. Staff were unfriendly. We stayed in the Sailfish room and the photo below is the view from the patio. I have had better breakfast at a rode side motel. I have a dairy allergy and inquired if the scrambled eggs had milk. Staff could not tell me yes or no because the eggs come in a plastic bag so they didn’t know the ingredients. The room only has a few electrical plugs to plug in your electronics. You will have to unplug lamps to charge your phones. Room was so musty they had a plug in air freshener to try to mask the odor. The bedroom slanted down so you will be sleeping at a slant. We had to sleep at the foot of the bed so our heads were not slanting down. There are no exhaust fans in the bathroom so when you take a shower or use the toilet there is no way to suck out the steam. It is very hot and humid in the bedroom because it is connected to the bathroom. The Sailfish room is across the street from the main amenities which is not that big of a deal. There is a “pool” on the sailfish side but it’s awkwardly located and you have to walk through another guest’s deck to get to it. Also they call it a pool but it’s a medium size hot tub at best. In regards to the tv not working we did request some help and maintenance was supposed to come fix it but that never happened. They only have 3 parking spots for 25 dollars a day. The staff will direct you to another place to park which is not far and within walking distance back to the hotel. What the staff will fail to inform you is it’s 15 dollars a day CASH ONLY. So once you arrive to the lot you have to go find an ATM to get cash. The lot is a way better option then the hotels parking spot. Ambrosia is a musty...

Ah, Ambrosia Key West – where the past meets the present, and neither one seems to be working quite right.
Let’s start with the positives, because I’m a glass-half-full kind of person (even if the glass is cracked and leaking): 🏝️ The location? Perfect. 👩💼 The staff? Lovely, warm, and clearly doing their best to keep this historic house standing. 🏛️ The building? Unique and full of character – the kind of place where every creak tells a story, and every room has a ghost of functionality past. 🍳 Breakfast? Available early and every day, which was great because sleep wasn’t really an option (more on that later).
Now, for the charming quirks: 📺 The TV didn’t work, which was fine because the fan only worked with the light on – who needs Netflix when you can experience 1920s sweat lodge vibes? 🔌 Electrical outlets were a fun little scavenger hunt – like an escape room, but your reward is being able to charge one thing overnight. 🚿 The shower had a personality. It screamed in protest every time I used it, much like I did when I realized the bathroom A/C got weaker by the day. 🔥 And who could forget the fire alarm that went off at 1:30 AM on my birthday? Nothing says "Happy Birthday" like sprinting out of bed to the soothing shriek of impending doom. Bonus: they removed the alarm after that and never replaced it – apparently fire safety is optional once you've celebrated another year.
Would I stay here again? Maybe. It’s hard to resist the allure of historical charm and spontaneous fire drills. Just bring a power strip, earplugs, and maybe a cake for...
