We arrived at the Curry House around 7 pm on Wednesday, past the time when staff would be on site. Upon entering the room, the first thing we noticed was that a lightbulb was out. Another lightbulb was flickering in the bathroom. On the balcony there was an ashtray full of cigarettes and cigars on the table. We ignored these things cause we figured they’d be taken care of the next day when housekeeping came. When we arrived back in our room the next afternoon after housekeeping had come, none of the above problems were taken care of. On top of that, the dirty towels we used had not been replaced, the unused towels were also stained, there were leftover toiletries in the shower from the prior guests, the plastic water cups had not been discarded or replaced, the coffee cups had not been taken out of the room, the trash can had not been emptied, the bathroom had obviously not been cleaned, and lightbulb not replaced. The only “cleaning” that had been done was the top blanket folded back over the bed. Obviously not changed either. Spending just 20 more minutes cleaning the room would’ve made a world of difference but it seems like the absolute bare minimum is good enough at the Curry House. Annoyed but knowing we were leaving the next day we tried to make the best of it. Then later that evening the ceiling started leaking. Both in the bedroom and in the bathroom. We were on the second floor, this is not a leak from the roof. We ran downstairs, no one was around. We called the after hours number that was posted and there was no answer just a message saying it’s past 6pm when they would normally answer phones. I pulled up the original Vacasa email and called them which again went unanswered. Emailed the address in the email which was unanswered for over 2 hours. Called a number listed on the welcome sheet. Again unanswered. At this point water is consistently dripping through the ceiling and we have towels and the ice bucket down. I even reached out on twitter to Vacasa to try to alert someone to the problem. We finally were able to get the innkeeper on the phone and she asked how bad it was and said to just put some towels down. She said it is a known problem and they were going to have someone out to fix it this weekend. Nothing more was offered. The last thing I’d expect to have to do on vacation is to deal with a dirty room with a leaking ceiling - all while paying over $200 a night. This has been an incredibly disappointing experience and I’ll never book anything through Vacasa again. Customer satisfaction does not seem to be a priority to this company and you’re better off looking elsewhere for lodging.
We’ve since called and emailed Vacasa several times about this only...
Read moreWe stayed in room 1 of Curry House for 5 nights in mid February. 2 adults. The property is worn and is in need of a refresh. It was clean, staff very friendly when they were available. Our A/C was barely adequate in February -- the room never dehumified so I can't imagine it would actually be effective in spring/summer (we live in Georgia/South Carolina so we are very familiar with southeast humidity). We booked through Vacasa -- the fees were absurd and we paid $411 per night with fees and taxes (the Vacasa fees were more than the taxes). The location was decent, in a more quiet part of Key West, with easy walking/biking access to all the island has to offer. There was zero housekeeping while we were there (blamed on Covid) so we had to take out our own trash every day. Extra/clean towels were only available the first two days, not after that -- and with the humidity issues in the room, our towels needed to be changed more frequently. An in-room refrigerator never got very cold, the room (due to the age and the fact it needs updating) lacked enough electrical outlets. Room and bathroom (private) were small but that was expected. We had a balcony that overlooked the pool, which was nice, however, it wasn't weather protected from the top so it would be unusable in the rain (that's ridiculous in Florida, the balcony should have had weather protected ceilings). Only one chair besides the bed which made it a bit confining -- glad the weather was good so we could use the balcony a good bit when we were there -- which wasn't a lot. Continental breakfast is a rather generous description but the coffee was good. Overall, the place was just barely okay and for the price charged, that is not acceptable. I would not have chosen this location after reading the reviews but we were staying with friends and the poor reviews are accurate. We would not...
