We stayed from November 6th- 10th and we came in late on the 6th and immediately after settling in and getting ready to go to bed we spotted 6 palmetto bugs on our first night. I immediately texted the host at 2 o’clock in the morning to inform him, and I was pretty calm about the whole situation even though there’s no reason for those to be in a suite. I also had hopes that the host would take care of the problem the following morning his approach to the situation was to give me bug spray and spray the cracks all around the wall and floor with peppermint air freshener, and proceeded to tell me that it’s inevitable because it’s a Florida thing, But I live in Florida and I spray the exterior of my house in Palmetto bugs don’t come in. Then again the host wife was explaining to me how harmless they are but again I shouldn’t be in a suite with five or six palmetto bugs crawling around the floors and or walls. We didn’t see any on day two at least that I know. Now here comes day 3 We are starting to go to bed I get up turn the light on on to give my kids a drink and there and 2 more on the wall and one crawling around the floor. So moral of the story is this place has an insect problem clearly and the host does little to nothing to address that issue. I would say the only good thing about this place is the location. We tried to use the grill and it had propane or was waterlogged. It’s advertised that it has two pools but the only one available to the rooms is the cocktail pool. And for the people reading this review that don’t know what Palmetto bugs are they are huge cockroaches that jump and fly. So I would suggest if you have the money especially if you plan to bring kids stay elsewhere unless you don’t mind cockroaches, crawling around the...
Read moreJune 2018 stay ... New owners Mark & Gail welcomed us back for another year. While the property was a bit worse for wear (and Irma) - we were assured that the many fix-ups are in the queue. Regardless, the property remains our favorite annual stay in Key West. Improvements were also evident with more reliable WiFi and Google ChromeCast installed for TV streaming (nice touch!). And this year we brought our standard poodle "Dottie" who loved Suite Dreams as much as we do. Looking for a quiet and discreet suite for au-natural sunbathing and skinny dipping - the Hemingway is all this and much more. We wish all the best for Mark & Gail and will see you in 2019.
Again, in the 'Hemingway' suite - nothing has changed and we were delighted - once again. A private place to sun & shade, relax and cool (au naturel) after hiking and biking the island - like last year we did it all again. This time we made more use of the spacious 'Hemingway' suite with the two of us plus special guests.
Jamie and Vicki were so helpful getting some reservations taken care of for us - especially a perfectly marvelous private sail for an afternoon with 'Key West ECO Tours' and captain Lisa. Lisa is adorable, knowledgeable and an engaging captain and guide.
It is hard for us to believe there is any better place for us to enjoy our visits to the key. Looking forward to next year ...
Stayed June 2016
We went back for more (June 2017) and as before we were delighted with our stay. Seems the WiFi service (in Hemingway) was improved. With construction next door we hope that privacy will be better next time - and there will be in 2018. Thanks to the all the staff for helping make our stay in KW a very...
Read moreJanuary 2023 - I've been to Key West for several years and would not recommend staying here. First, it is too far out from Duval street and if you want to go and enjoy island restaurants and activities make sure you have a motorized cart or be prepared to Uber everywhere. The rooms were clean but the bathrooms/shower in the Hemingway Suite are smaller than what you have on a cruise ship. Pull out bed was awful and the furniture that you sat on was as hard as a rock. All of us have bites from some type of bug that was in every room. I don't think they were bed bugs but they might have been no-seeums. All 7 of us have mosquito type bites on our legs and arms. Window drapes, bed sheets and bed covers are old and need to be replaced. Air conditioning vents have mold and need to be cleaned. You have no control of your air conditioning temperature. It is controlled by the manager. Too many common walls in this home/condo. We shared a common wall with a couple in the Duval suite for three days. They played their TV 24 hours a day for three days and did nothing but smoke cigarettes. No Smoking is permitted but housing manager did not enforce it. I had to place a towel at the base of our hallway door so the smoke would not enter our area. For what we paid for one week - it was definitely not worth it. Better values can be found on the island. We had a large group and were questioned as to why we needed additional towels. Buy your own toilet paper otherwise what they give you is nothing but onionskin. Additionally, the toaster in the kitchen takes at least ten minutes to toast any type of bread. for what we spent - it was not...
