It’s definitely a motel, but an overpriced one (prices varied from over $300 down to high $200s depending upon the day). We stayed for 3 nights, and that was plenty. There are (I believe) 71 rooms, but only one medium-sized and one very small, pool for all 71 rooms. There was a group of obnoxious, drunk people staying in rooms closest to the larger pool, and all they did was drink in the pool most of the day (even though there are signs saying no liquor, but no enforcement). There were 8-10 of them at one time, and that made it very uncomfortable for any other guests to go in. The property also allows smoking in outside areas, and in this day and age, most places require guests to go off property to smoke. Not pleasant at all. The pools were good for the rooms near them, but there were about 25 rooms facing South St with no easy pool access. You had to walk out of the property, along, the street, and back into the property to access the larger of the 2 pools (this one is unheated, and in 91F, the most desirable). The rooms: very small and dated; no counter or shelf space whatsoever in the small bathroom; no hooks in bathroom to hang anything!; shower was nice and big, but low water pressure; no closet space at all (a rack hanging in the middle of the wall); and TV was a small monitor (terrible to watch a hockey game on! players were like ants!). Very small counter with a microwave and bar fridge below, but looks like there once was a bar sink there (very much needed!). Worst thing was no shelf or counter space in the bathroom. Not enough room for your toothbrush and toothpaste on the sink! Nice additions to staying there: parking is included (it’s expensive in Key West!); a very continental breakfast with pre-packaged muffins, instant oatmeal, coffee, juice, yogurt, and oranges; guest passes available for South Beach where you get a towel and a chair included (an umbrella is an extra $12); bike rentals are available ($20/day). FYI, Don’t stay in one of the rooms close to Simonton St as the live music is right there at the bar, and is very loud! The staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful, but unfortunately didn’t make up for the negatives. This motel is in a great location, but really needs upgrades and you’re better off paying an extra $70/night at one of the nicer places nearby.

Agree with many of the other reviews. This little gem of a motel was perfect for my husband and I during our 4 night stay. We had a queen room. It was indeed small, but as we were pretty much only at the room for bedtime, it suited our needs perfectly. The room was cleaned daily, a nice touch when so many other hotels have switched to every other day or every third day. No traditional "closet" in our little bungalow room, but it had an open hanging rod with shelf in the bathroom which worked just fine. No dresser/drawers either, but we were able to put most folded items on the shelf in the bathroom and used the luggage stand with our suitcase in a corner of the bathroom for the rest. Shower was a nice size and very clean. Water pressure wasn't great. Loved that we had a counter with stools, a decent fridge, and a microwave. We also had a coffee maker but didn't use as the hotel has coffee and light breakfast every morning in the lobby. Very convenient! Breakfast was light but adequate. The best part??? The homemade breakfast muffins! The variety changed daily and they were delicious! My faves were the chocolate chip and the orange cranberry. Yum! We went to the larger of the two pools once and it was fine. Plenty of seating on what looked like brand new patio furniture. We loved sitting on our own private porch every night--a nice touch. The location of the hotel was very close to Duval St and convenient to just about everything. Walking distance to many restaurants/food trucks, there was a little bar on-site, and you could see the southernmost marker with the distance to Cuba from the corner (about 2 blocks away). South Beach and Higgs Beach are both very close as well. The hotel also had little stand up scooters on site that you could rent via an app from a company called Lama. We did that one day and it was awesome to be able to travel a little further to the other side of the island without calling an Uber! Overall recommend this little place for a casual, laid-back stay.

Southwinds Motel Key West 4-30-25 Out first time staying here, and we would stay here again when visiting Key West. This Motel was not fancy, but it had everything we needed. It is less than a 5-minute walk to Southern most Point Buoy or South Beach and just a block off Duval St. There are 3 pools and plenty of room to park. In the morning, they have a Continental Breakfast in the main lobby. Our rooms were very clean, AC worked fine and very quiet so we could sleep well at night. The beds were comfortable, and the room had Coffee Maker, Refrigerator, large ceiling fan and Microwave in it. Bathroom and shower were functional, and the mirror was large for the ladies to get ready from. Flat Screen TV was a little small, but it did the job. Only thing that I would have wished for was a desk area in our room for my work on a laptop so you may want to make sure your booked room has one. The pool area was clean as was the pool itself. They did supply towels for you in the pool area. There was also a guest laundry on premises and bike rentals. We could park near our room which helped my handicap, Dad. We ordered a Golf Cart to be delivered to our Motel when we booked the room, and it was. One thing to bring up is they add a 50-dollar charge on your bill called OTHER CHARGE. We asked about it and it took them a while to explain but that it’s a charge for Internet, Beach access and the Continental Breakfast items. I would not have a problem with that, but they never explained that charge when we booked direct with them. This is something you may want to consider this if you’re looking into staying there. I give Southwind’s 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Follow Me On FB More Reviews & Fun. Gulf Coast Terry

On July 12, we booked in to Southwind Motel resort to celebrate our 39 year wedding anniversary and to make wonderful memories. As it turns out, he only gave us very stressful and unfulfilling. Stay at the resort we checked into the motel resort and spoke to a man at the front desk Reception and proceeded to check in. At check-in, the man overcharged us for a security deposit in case of an incident that occurs while our stay at the motel. He is supposed to only charges $150 for security deposit , but he ended up charting us additional $150 for the grand total of $300. He stated don’t worry about it. It will be taken care at the end. On July 13 ,in the morning, we proceeded to attempt to take a shower, but there was no hot water and the water from the shower area backed up. The drain from the from the shower did not drain at all. I informed the front desk service man How about the shower not having hot water or not draining properly. I asked the front desk service man to move me and my wife to another room, but he stated we will get the maintenance man to repair the shower. Service maintenance man took three attempts and three hours later to repair the shower in our room. after the repairs were all completed I approach the front desk and stated to him that I was very unhappy with the Motel and it was a huge inconvenience and stressful experience the front desk service then stated that I will not charge you for the resort fee and if I still wanted, it moved to another room. Since it was so late, we missed our opportunity have breakfast and we had to reschedule our activities for that day. When I checked out of room on July 14, I realize that I was still charged Resort fee. On July 14, we checked out of our room and headed back to our home in Port St. Lucie which is 5 1/2 hour drive. When we arrived home, my wife realize that at Pandora bracelet with many assorted charms was left in our room at Southwind Motel resort room number 52. I call the Resort and inform them about my wife’s Pandora bracelet being left in the bathroom. Whoever wasn’t at the front desk serves for check-in really didn’t care about our situation. He stated he will call back later cause he was very busy and he never did. At the end of that day. I finally get an email from Southwind Motel resort by a manager named Umberto. He stated that they look for the bracelet in the room which was towards the end of the day and claims that there was no bracelet and I should write a police report only I have to be there in Key West in order to do that. He gave me a sense that he did not care. It is my problem and I should resolve my own issue. I also have correspondence email with the Director of housekeeping, which stated, we do have some sort of records that states who cleaned the room and no one else entered room but the cleaning lady. That’s telling me that the only possible way that the pandora bracelet is missing is: the cleaning lady stole it, or she threw it out in the trash by mistake. The Pandora bracelet has a lot of sentimental value, and a lot of those charms are not replaceable. The bracelet cost us approximately $850. My wife is very depressed because of a bracelet being missing and her heart broken. My can’t get a good night sleep because of bracelet being gone. We are taking a full refund for the amount of $298 because of the severe inconvenience and the bracelet being stolen all thrown into the trash by one of your workers who does the...

BEWARE BEFORE YOU BOOK! THERE ARE MUCH BETTER PLACES TO STAY FOR THE SAME IF NOT LESS COST! If I could rate this place a negative 5 stars I would and it’s not so much the motel itself but the staff or better yet, one staff member, Donna and she’s the supervisor. I booked this motel last October for 4 people and I even called back in May of this year to confirm my reservation. When we got there on 09/14/18 they gave us a room #36 with a king size bed and a pullout that is supposed to sleep two people. What they consider a pullout is a 1” piece of hard wood with a 2” flattened topper. Not only that but my daughter is pregnant, and my husband and I aren’t exactly in our 20’s anymore, so there was no one that could sleep on that highly uncomfortable “pullout” plus the “pullout” had a nasty stain on it that looked like poop and the phone in that room didn’t work. I went back to the office and Marcus was able to set us up for the night in a double room but stated that we would need to give it up the next day which I frankly didn’t understand because while I was there getting that double room someone came in and they gave them a double room on the spot. Anyhow, the next morning we were informed that we needed to vacate the room we were in and again, we were going to be put in room #36. When I informed “Donna” that that room did not sleep four people she proceeded to argue with me that it does, and that the pullout was extremely comfortable…” just look at our amazing review!” When I found out that we were getting room #36 again, I told my daughter and her husband to go over there and just wait at the room. While I was still in the lobby, Donna proceeded to go to the room and scream at my daughter that “you can’t be standing here!” My daughter told her that her mother had told her to go to this room and Donna then told her “you need to listen to me not your mother!”. Donna then came back to the office and informed me that my that she had not been rude to my daughter and that I was the one that had been rude to her and her staff. I told her “well, if me wanting to get what I paid for is rude…then I guess I’ve been rude.” This woman is horrible, and I don’t understand why they would have someone like that at the front desk. I proceeded to find another hotel close by and decided to just end this fiasco right there and then. Also, we had already PAID IN FULL the previous night with amenities fee and all but on the final bill, they added another amenities fee. One last things, if you notice on google, etc. most of their review are good which is extremely hard to believe with a bull dog like Donna at the front desk which leads me to believe that they probably pay to have negative...

I GOT BED BUGS FROM THIS HOTEL! The place was nice enough while staying there, however, a few days after we left both my friend and I, who slept in the bed, broke out in bites ALL OVER our body. This is the only possible location we could have gotten the bed bugs from because it is the only place we slept in the same bed. I then traveled to three more places (without my friend) and now have to worry that I have spread bed bugs to three different houses. Most people don't realize that bed bug bites don't necessarily show up the next morning; they can take up to two weeks to appear on a persons body.

UPDATE--MORE DETAIL: I flew in from Colorado to Florida for a vacation. Myself and two friends then drove down to Key West. There were a total of 3 of us who stayed at Southwinds. My friend Kayla and I slept in the bed, while my other friend slept on the pull-out; my other friend never even sat on the bed from my recollection. We stayed there for two nights. Upon waking up the first night, my friend Kayla noticed a few rusty colored spots on the bed. I thought for sure it was something we dragged in from the night before so I thought nothing of it. We continued our stay and the next morning we noticed more spots on the bed but shrugged them off. My friends returned to their home and I went back to Colorado. We did not speak for a week.

I actually assumed I was bitten by sea lice because I swam through some sea weed. It is important to note that my friend did not go into the ocean at all. My friend contacted me this week and asked if I was also covered in bites. I have 20 bites on my left arm alone. She even thought it could have been from her bed, even though she never had bites before she stayed at the hotel. So she took steps to investigate her entire house and found no evidence.

My other friend who did not sleep in the bed has not bites. Only my friend Kayla and I have bites. I never stepped foot in my Kaylas house, nor did she go anywhere else I went while I was traveling. The only place Kayla and I slept in the same room was in the Southwinds motel. We were only together for two days, and then she went back to her house (again, I never even stepped foot into her house) and I went to Colorado. No one else has any bites. I have contacted every person I came in contact with since I stayed at the hotel, and no one else has a single bite anywhere. I even considered the possibility that the car we traveled in had the bed bugs--but no one else who was in the car had any bites. Further, I sat in the front and she sat...
