Our third Holiday Inn Express stay this year and each location has been consistently good. Nice updated rooms, plenty of amenities, and pleasant staff.
Booked two rooms but, received a voicemail from someone at the hotel wondering about why I was booking a single room with a king bed for a party of four. Guess they didn't notice that I booked two rooms.
Fortunately, checking in was smooth and efficient even though there were four people ahead of me. They probably could have used a second person to help check in arriving guests. Staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.
The room had everything you would need including a microwave, safe, and the walk-in shower had a seat which is rare. Plenty of outlets and usb ports made charging of devices easy. No hand soap in the bathroom but, there was a shower gel dispenser in the shower which was fine but a little annoying.
The TV in the room had plenty of channels but, no way to access the other HDMI ports or stream to it via Chromecast. That would be sweet but, Iunderstand that this is premium feature normally offered by higher end hotels we've been to in the past.
The room AC unit is super loud and not sure how people can sleep when it is on during the summer. I had turned it off but, can hear the droning of units in other rooms throughout the night.
If you are an early sleeper, you may want to avoid west facing rooms on the south side of the building as it overlooks the pool. There were kids playing in the pool until 10 PM at night even though it was 50 degrees outside. Traffic noise can be an issue during the day as it sits at the intersection of two streets but, not too bad in the middle of the night.
The bridge view rooms do have a nice view and the visitor center is next to the hotel.
The complimentary breakfast was very good as usual. Glad the pancake machine was working as it wasn't at the HIE in Old Town San Diego. There is an In and Out across the street which is cool.
All in all, we had a...
Read moreFirst let me say that we often stay at Holiday Inn Express as they are comfortable, friendly, clean and have great breakfasts. Lake Havasu is must of these things. It’s in a great location. The staff is friendly and the hotel is clean and rooms large. The bed was comfortable as well. This is where the good stuff ends and the not so good takes over. After we checked in we were notified that there was an issue with the hot water heater so we were advised that there would be no hot water after 9:00 am. Not the end of the world but inconvenient. We went for a walk along London Bridge, had a bite to eat and took a dip in the pool. All good experiences. Well then we went back to the room and turned on the air conditioning unit. IT WAS HORRIFIC! The noise it made was unreal. We had no choice but to leave it on as the windows do not open - another downside for the room in my opinion. Our only option was to leave the fan running in hopes of it muffling the air conditioner cutting in and out all night. Suffice it to say that didn’t work out well and neither of us got much sleep. When we got up we found another note under the door saying that the water pump had failed overnight and that we might not have water pressure OR HOT WATER! We after a bad sleep that was NOT the news that I wanted. I did manage a warming shower in a trickle of water about 8:00 am. Upon checking out I mentioned to the front desk that the air conditioner was very noisy and that it made for a rough night. She said sorry!!! So was I sorry! We’d also paid $165.00 for the privilege. I think that there should have been some type of compensation. I understand mechanical issues and water problems nay not their problem but ensuring their customers are satisfied is. We WILL NOT stay there again. It’s too bad as the location is great, the bed is comfortable, the staff are friendly but our stay was memorable for all the...
Read moreThis is an excellent property, and I would highly recommend it. Among its favorable attributes:||1. It is modern and clean and sleek and well maintained.|2. Rooms are comfortable and spacious; bedding and linens all good.|3. The fitness center is spacious with a variety of modern, health-club quality equipment.|4. It is extremely convenient to London Bridge and the adjacent touristy area; you can easily walk to it all in a matter of minutes.|5. Parking is easy and abundant.|6. The complimentary breakfast is standard HI Express fare, which is to say appetizing and with a variety of offerings . . .with healthy options like oatmeal for those so desiring, and more indulgent options (like HI Express's signature warm cinnamon rolls) for those who let go a bit while traveling. An attendant did a nice job at keeping everything stocked and the food area neat and tidy.|7. Hotel personnel are friendly and helpful.||A couple of drawbacks were relatively minor but worth mentioning: ||1. The AC/heating unit was annoyingly noisy.|2. Ice machines are located on only the 2nd and 4th floors, with the 2nd floor machine out of order during my visit. It'd be nice if the in-room refrigerators had a "freezer tray" that guests could use to freeze those plastic re-freezable ice blocks, which would negate the need for an ice machine in the first place.|3. The only white milk available at the breakfast was skim. It's be nice if they offered 1%, 2%, or whole milk for those of us who don't like watery milk.||To be clear, 5 stars as I understand the TripAdvisor rating scale does not mean it's a "luxury property" (nobody will mistake a HI Express for a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton). It means that for the price paid and the general lodging category (mid-tier in the case of HI Express), it was a very pleasant experience and exceeded expectations on...
