This is the first time in 10 years since I've left CA and I decided to visit LA this year from Cambodia. I'm a huge fan of M-Grill until last night. When I went last night, I can see that the place has a huge upgrade/renovation from what I remembered which might be the factor contributing to the problems I encountered last night. I came with my wife, my sis and her bf (a table of 4).
About food serving last night, everything was great from the moment I got seated till the waiters decided (for whatever reasons) to stop bringing meats to our table of 4 in the middle of our dinner. Maybe it was packed and has a few big tables so they decided that the smaller tables does not really matter and they only care about big parties. I want to stress that it was not just my table but I can see that other small tables near the counter-top and around me were also facing the same problem. They only started to bring more meat when I started to complain and we have already waited for a good 20-30min in the middle of our dinner. Also I specifically requested chicken hearts from the start and only to get served an hour later. They did apologize and explained there might be a mix-up. Minus -2 stars for food serving.
About the red wine, before I came to M-Grill, I have already decided to get a bottle of Caymus. On the list, they have Caymus Special Selection 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017. I decided to go with 2014 with a price tag of $405. I want to note that 2014 and 2015 has the same price tag on the menu. I was told that 2014 was the last bottle which was fine with me and I still get it anyway. When we finished the bottle, I wanted to get a 2nd bottle so I go with 2015. The manager went and check and came back that 2015 is $50 more which does not make sense to me when I already know the price on their wine list. I told him I wouldn't mind the price but the list stated 2014 and 2015 has the same price tag. As a person who enjoy drinking wine and also is quite knowledgeable about red wine, I started to question in my mind how can younger wine is more expensive than older wine? I explained to him and he went and check and realized what I said was true and he decided to honor it. I don't mind spending big money on wine and whiskey but something like this give me an unsettling feeling that I was taken advantages of and maybe they think I'm Asian from Cambodia and can not afford a 2nd bottle of expensive red wine so they decided to raise the price on the go. LOL I really don't know. Minus -1 star
However, I can say this in certainty that the place has lost that personal touch with catering to customers especially to smaller tables. I remember 10+ years ago, the place was half the size of what it is now and every waiters really catered to your needs/requests and remembered the small details. I definitely can not say the same now. This is what happen with successful businesses that they tend to lose that touch of small details with customers that make them feel catered and taken care of.
Overall, the receipt was $1200+ and I felt like I spent these money to only get seated and literally half of the time spend waiting for them to serve us. Definitely not...
Read moreWe went to M Grill on Saturday, August 23rd, and the entire experience was pretty great from start to finish. The restaurant really stands out in Los Angeles if you are looking for a Brazilian steakhouse experience that feels authentic, inviting, and full of flavor.
The salad bar is on the smaller side compared to some other churrascarias, but honestly that does not matter when the main attraction is the nonstop stream of meats. If you come here, you are coming for the meat, and it is worth every bite.
Before the meats even arrive, the little details set the tone. The cheese bread is warm, chewy, and absolutely addictive. It is one of those items that you cannot stop eating even though you know you should save room for the meat. The spicy red sauce on the table deserves its own shoutout because it is packed with flavor and heat without being overwhelming. A good tip is to ask for their chimichurri as well. They do not automatically place it on the table, but if you request it, they will gladly bring it, and it goes well with almost every cut of meat.
As for the meats themselves, I enjoyed everything that came by, but two items stood out above the rest. The bacon-wrapped chicken was juicy, smoky, and seasoned to perfection. It was easily one of my favorites of the night. Right alongside it were the pork ribs, which were tender, flavorful, and cooked with just the right amount of char. Although, the meat can get repetitive as we found ourselves getting the same thing too quickly in a span of 20 minutes.
The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice for the area. It feels upscale without being overly formal, which makes it perfect for a night out with friends, family, or even a date. Parking in the area can be tricky, but there is a valet service if you prefer to leave your car with them for convenience.
Service was a bit uneven at first. Our initial waiter disappeared for long stretches, which left us waiting and unsure about the flow of the evening. Fortunately, another older server stepped in and completely turned the night around. He was attentive, kind, and very professional. He checked on us regularly, offered great recommendations, and really made us feel like valued guests. The level of care he showed was well worth leaving him a generous tip, and I credit him with making our night so much better. I only wish that I asked for his named so I can be on the lookout for him next time. That's on me.
Overall, M Grill impressed more than the first time I was there. From the food to the service to the ambiance, it felt like a complete dining experience. I have been to Fogo de Chão before, and while it is a well-known name, I honestly prefer M Grill. The atmosphere is more relaxed, the flavors feel more genuine, and the service we received here left a lasting impression. This is a place I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a memorable Brazilian steakhouse in...
