I'm giving 1 star and that's only for the charming brick building in which this cafe is located. At Espresso Profeta, I was insulted, served the worst 'coffee' imaginable--- hot water-- essentially. I ordered an Americano, who the nasty little guy serving me said had 2 shots of espresso. I assumed if it really had 2 shots, a 12 ounce cup should have good flavor. It has no flavor. None, hot water. I asked for half and half, I know he didn't put it in, I saw him heating the milk. I tried to drink it, but it was stupid to drink hot water. So, when i went to complain and said 'this is hot water' the guys at the counter, 3 of them, hanging around doing nothing, sort of attacked me as a group,. They ridiculed me, laughed at me, especially when i told them i live in Italy-- I DO! Not only didn't they offer to make me another coffee, they said "why don't you go to Ministry of coffee; their coffee is good!" YES i couldn't make that up. They actually did say that. I know that because i am not a 22- yr. old UCLA student they felt that they can serve anything to a middle aged woman, who they felt they could insult-- and when I pushed back, they didn't like it. They got even nastier. I hope the owners, a couple whom I have read about, who opened this cafe, read this and learn who they have working for them. I can tell them even more detail of how obnoxious and demeaning their 'team' is. And by the way, I did go to Ministry of coffee. There was a line out the door. Not the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEspresso Profeta has consistently been my favorite cafe for years, Iām actually shocked I havenāt shared more about it sooner, with the exception that Iāve wanted to keep it to myself.
From the time that you arrive just know that street parking is your best bet. There are other parking garages near or public transit if possible (after all, UCLA is near so mass transit is common). Enter through a small courtyard into their boutique cafe front and order at the counter right in the nook. FYI stay off your phone while ordering, this cafe welcomes real interactions and conversations, nothing virtual is permissible (how a cafe should be).
Iām extremely particular with espresso and espresso based drinks mainly because my palate has become quite sensitive to small nuances in the overall body of beverages. That being said, this is one of the only cafes where I will gladly order my go-to flat white (fav espresso drink) not because of the amazing bean quality but because of the skill level and stylistic approach of their baristas. Thank you guys for consistently providing mugs of joy in my life for years.
P.S. for the best enjoyment, indulge your beverage of choice in a ceramic cup (for here). The staff isnāt always the most chatty however if you engage with them genuinely youāll find that they really are an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIn a nutshell, I don't recommend this place and I won't be back, even if I'm right across the street. Got a Spanish latte with an extra shot and a chocolate chip cookie. The Latte was good but even with the extra shot it was still very sweet (for me). The cookie was good, chewy and had nice textures. It's a cute little place with seating inside & outside. Prices are high for the small cups (most only one size), would be nice to have some bigger options. Staff wasn't welcoming at all, and this is why I won't be back. Seemed like they didn't want to be there and I was interrupting their conversation by ordering. So sorry? I and 2 other people had to remind them to give us part of our order that they forgot. Parking is rough, meters or a paid lot it seems. Only stopped by because I was in the area, and they were right...
