the place is big with a good floor plan, in a good location. that is about all that is good about it. It is dated and it shows. I know that the units are individually owned, but not taken very good care of. And that is no excuse. Outrigger needs to take responsibility for units they rent out. the furniture is old and worn out. Tables rock because the legs are not sitting right on the floor. Carpet in the bathroom around the bathtub, with mold. Mold in the grout joints in both bathrooms, kitchen counter, and floor tile. The master shower head had no pressure at all. needs to be replaced. The kitchen was listed as stocked with cooking necessities. Not even close to the truth. Limited selection of pots, pans, and tools. We could cook very little at the condo. There was issues with the unit being clean. The mirrors all had finger prints on them. The glasses in the kitchen had lip stick on them. The fridge stunk like rotten food, and had 3 boxes of baking soda inside to deal with it. The master bathroom medicine cabinet had medication in it that looks like it had been sitting in there for months. It had a expiration date of 2 months before our stay. The parking spots are numbered, and small. If you are driving a full size sedan or larger, you will have a very hard time parking in your spot, and lucky if you dont get a door ding overnight. You only get AC in the master bedroom. They want to charge you $20 a day to turn on the ac in the rest of the unit. Who has heard of that before? They are head units on a heat pump. Turning on one more wont use up that much more energy. Heat pump is already running. I had to turn the unit in the master bedroom as low as it would go to keep the rest of the condo cool enough to sleep at night. I paid for a deluxe unit, felt like I stayed in the bottom of the barrel. I feel sorry for people who pay for the standard unit. I am really angry about the meds left in the unit, I am here with my children. They are old enough to know to leave them alone, but what if they were younger. What if it was someone elses children? What if I did not find them?
I dont expect 5 star service and lodging. I do expect a clean safe place to stay during my time on Maui. I could have stayed at a hotel with daily room service, restaurants on site, beach front location, and many other plus's that I could not find at this condo. This is my 2nd stay at a outrigger property, and it will be my last. First one was not something to write home about, and this one...
Read moreWe recently (November 2022) stayed at the Palms for 5 nights. We read beforehand many of the reviews and our experience was consistent with a lot of these prior descriptions. The overall site is set up beautifully and it is well located, close to shops and restaurants and the beach. The lanais are large and well equipped with nice furniture and BBQs. The pool was enjoyable, cool but refreshing. The condo we stayed in (#1702) was attractively equipped, clean with decent appliances. It was large and had a great view of the ocean. Some things, though, needed very much to be updated, e.g. the window coverings, kitchen cupboards [doors did not close properly] the bathroom sinks and showers. Many reviews have commented on the air conditioning, and that only the master bedrooms are cooled. Our unit was no different, and this is a significant drawback. On the day we checked in, the condo was so hot and humid as to be nearly unbearable. It improved slightly as the week wore on. The bedroom AC was inconsistent and malfunctioned twice during successive nights [loud banging and hissing], and even though the front desk was notified and they checked it out, they could not find the problem. As a result, we ended up leaving it off, and thankfully, it was cool enough on these nights that an open window sufficed. However, on warmer evenings, this would have been a problem. The safe in our room malfunctioned when the batteries died [shouldn’t regular maintenance have found this problem and corrected it?] and our valuables were inaccessible. However, when the front office was notified, they were able to promptly resolve the problem. Parking is ample and convenient. However, this unit is situated on the second floor with no elevator, and quite a few stairs leading to its front door. Hauling heavy suitcases up these stairs was very challenging. A hefty cleaning fee is levied when checking out, yet we noted that our dishwasher appeared to have signs of mold. Though this complex is advertised as offering free local and long distance calls to the mainland, our phone was not working, and we were told that many of the units have discontinued land line connections. Complementary beach equipment is available in many of the units, though ours were somewhat “well used.” Checking in and out was relatively easy, and there is an after hours number to call when a...
Read moreThis was our second stay at The Palms of Wailea. We loved it the first time (Apr 2014) and we loved it again (June 2023). This time we booked 2 condos, #1205 and #406 for our expanded family. #1205 is a 2 BR ground unit with a garden view and was a short walk across the grounds from the pool. #406 is a 1 BR second floor unit near the pool. Room tips: ground units have less privacy because lots of people walk across the grass, We kept our sliding doors locked when we left the unit for the day. 2nd floor units can be left open and be cooled by the the ocean breeze. ||The 2 BR unit was very nice even though the furnishings were a little tired and worn. There were some minor issues such as scratches and chips on some of the wood furniture. One of the sliding doors was bent so it didn't slide easily and the coffee maker carafe was broken, but management repaired and replaced them right away. The tile floors needed washing but that could be due to being a ground floor unit with the doors open most of the time. Everything else was fine. The furniture was very comfortable both inside and outside on the lanai. All of the appliances worked well and were clean. We all enjoyed our meals on the lanai of this unit and appreciated the gas grill that was provided. This unit was usually very quiet. We could hear the sounds from the pool across the yard in the evenings, but that didn't bother us. ||The 1 BR unit was also very nice, but unfortunately had an ant problem. A good exterminator could solve that. We didn't want to have it sprayed while we were using it. This unit had beach equipment provided: chairs, umbrella & boogie boards. The proximity to the pool is great for those that want to be near it.||Overall we found the 2 units to be very comfortable and we enjoyed our time there very much. We didn't find anything wrong that was more than normal wear and tear, except for the ants. They were a nuisance, but manageable. If you want perfect conditions you can go to the higher priced resorts. If you want a comfortable, relaxing condo that meets all of your needs - including a big, lovely beach within walking distance (Keawakapu Beach) then I would recommend The Palms at Wailea. We love it there and plan...
