After a 2 year wait to go to Maui due to the pandemic canceling our plans. We were beyond excited to start our restful week on Maui. We rented a 1 bedroom condo at Valley Isle (all rooms have ocean views). At first we were a little bothered by the fact we would be on the first floor. Mostly concerned that our view would be impacted by the sand bags piled just before the beach. However, that wasn't as bad as we had thought it would be and we were able to see the ocean and the nearby islands. The room itself seemed mostly clean and in good shape. Sadly, things just went down from there.|Our first clue there might be issues should have been the fortune cookie fortune laying on the floor in the bedroom when we arrived!! We laughed it off -- not exactly thrilled about the full on cleaning they apparently didn't do, but the fact that it was a fortune cookie fortune seemed funny to us. Oh well, on we went. We enjoyed the sunset from our room and the families running around on the lawn outside our patio. We were tired from our travel so we went to bed around 10 ish (which is the start of the quiet hours). There is no AC so we left the bedroom window open for ventilation as the room was pretty warm. |We were in room 105 which is located near the elevators in the hallway. Just about every half hour someone noisily walked past the room to the elevators (it was Saturday night after all). They did not realize that every sound they made echoed into our room. The tile floor and the enclosed space made for an echo chamber like no other! It sounded like people were wearing tap shoes as the walked! When they spoke we could hear every word they said. We closed the window in the hopes that would help.... it did not! Now the room was warmer and the noise was just as bad. Adding to the people talking and clacking by, the trash chute must land just behind the elevator because all night long we could hear bottles and other loud thuds as things landed! Beach access is past this room so people going by is pretty much constant.|At 7 the next morning - looking like I had been run over by a bus after getting maybe a max of 2 to 3 hours sleep I went to the front desk. The cleaning person in the lobby told me they don't open until 8 (the front desk closes at 5 every evening and opens at 8 -- so no one there to help without a phone call to who knows where). So I waited and returned at 8 on the nose. I explained how bad the noise was and that we desperately needed to be moved to another room! The girl at the desk said "well there is a $50 room change fee" ... which I responded with "we need to pay so we can get a room that we can actually sleep in?" and she said she would see what she could do. As you might guess. NOTHING was done.|So we slept in the living room the next night (they had a Murphy bed in there) in an attempt to get some rest and enjoy our vacation.|The next day after running into more issues -- 1. the water coming out of the kitchen faucet was pretty much white and tasted nasty (so we went out and bought bottled water), the microwave turntable didn't turn, the light under the microwave didn't work, screen door to the living room and outside patio didn't lock, we had ant type bugs in the bathroom and kitchen sinks, a dead cockroach in the hall to the bathroom, trash being left outside our door, people staying above us moved furniture around constantly (sounded like they only have tile floors in that room maybe?)|I went back to the front desk - same girl ... explained the issues. She took some notes and said she would see what she could do. So... again nothing done!|We arrived late afternoon on Saturday Oct 1. (explained our problems to the front desk on both Sunday and Monday mornings requesting a new room and got no assistance) I called our timeshare 800 # on Tuesday Oct 4 in the morning and they had us moved later that same day to another place down the road where we were able to finally enjoy our Maui vacation.|I gave the Valley Isle resort the 2 star rather than 1 solely based on the location, the well tended grounds and view.|If you have reservations at this resort and when you arrive they tell you your room number is 105 -- just turn around and run!|The property is aware of the noise issue - I stumbled across other reviews of this room and noise has always been a problem. They need to install indoor/outdoor carpet in this area, put sound proofing around the bedroom, change the window from a slat style to something with sound proofing, put carpet in the living room room above(?) -- as well as the issues with the kitchen and screen door if their customers are at all...
Read moreThis is not an actual resort, I'm sorry. Let's start with the fact that I was already on Maui and moving Here, I had volunteer duties for most of the day so wasn't sure. I could make it by the 5 o'clock Check in deadline when the Front desk closes. I ask if I could have an early check in. I was told no. Not a big deal. I explained the situation and asked if I could come by register and get my key card,, I wouldn't use it until after 4. I was told that that was not possible. I again explained that I may not be there before 5 and had heard horror stories about the call in check in. I was told I could call between 4 and 5 and be given the code for the lockbox. Where my key card would be. Having read the reviews and comments that the code to the lockbox didn't always work. That did not seem like the best solution. I ended up leaving my volunteer duties early to make it to the Location before 5. Upon checking, I was given my one beach towel. I asked for another tell as I like to have 1 to lie on and when to dry off with. I was told no I was only allowed 1 towel for my entire stay, meaning the same towel. If it gets dirty, which it will as I just have one, I'll have to wash it myself. In the unit the bedroom light does not work. There is no AC. The front door opens to an open air hallway. It has a locking screen door with iron grate. Having it and sliding door open creates a cross breeze but privacy is lost since the door is right on the hallway. Also the sliding door had no lock or grate. I was only 1/2 sorry above ground, even though it was called the 2nd floor, so did not feel safe leaving sliding open at night or when out. There is one stand up fan in the unit. I set up by bedroom window, it also faces the open air hallway like the door so having window open creates a privacy issue. The fan was supposed to osolate but got stuck every time and made a loud repeated noise. No sleeping with that happening. The is no closet in the bedroom. There is one in the open ( no door) part of the bath area. If some one was sleeping on the murphey bed in the living room the closet is in full view. So I guess all clothes must be obtained the night before or some kind of exposure is going to happen. The kitchen is a full kitchen but worn and dated. The carpet does not seem clean and the bedroom smells kind of stale and funky. The building is right on the ocean and the view is very good. However giant sand bags, due to shoreline erosen, prevent direct access to the beach from most of the property. Worldmark is not renewing the lease on the units here which I think is a good call on their part. After March or April 2024 worldmark will have no presence here. I do not think worldmark has the highest standards, a lot of their properties could use a refresh. But the units and service here are well below their standards. One will still be able to rent indivually owned and decorated units. I am sure they vary in quality. Even a really nice unit here will not turn this place...
Read morewasn't sure what to expect since I knew this was an older building in Kahana. I shouldn't have worried because the condo was perfect for us. You're looking right out at the water, and can hear the surf crashing 24/7 which is so soothing, especially at night. It's wonderful to keep all the windows open and let the tradewinds blow. My other worry was the lack of a/c (in June) but we had ceiling fans and portable fans in every room, plus the tradewinds blowing, so we were fine. ||||The beach is just steps away from the condo. Yes, there are sandbags to prevent erosion, but there is plenty of sandy beach to walk and sunbathe on. The water is swimmable. We also went sea kayaking and paddle boarding but I don't think it's a great spot for snorkeling. Kapalua Bay is nearby (good snorkeling - terrible parking.) If you walk next door to the Sands of Kahana resort, their beach shack rents all kinds of gear: kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel equipment, beach chairs, coolers, boogie boards. I think the paddle boards were something like $59 an hour, but for $99 you can rent all of those items for four days! A great deal!||||The condo itself is easy to settle into. The king mattress is surprisingly comfy for a bed away from home. My friend commented that the Murphy bed was also comfortable as well. Some of the items we found to be helpful: hair dryer, two boogie boards, two beach chairs, beach towels, pool noodles, iron/ironing board, styrofoam cooler, small lunchbox sized cooler, umbrella, Mr. Coffee coffee machine, a bookshelf of books. Keep in mind that these items may change depending on what guests take or break. I know they guarantee the beach towels though. My only constructive criticism is they only give you two thin bars of soap and four rolls of toilet paper. When you're out, you're out. Other than that you will absolutely love your time here. I know I...
