ROACHES, ROACHES, & more ROACHES!
My husband and I recently stayed in Unit 211, our second time in this particular unit, and third time at Noelani. After our last visit in October, we informed the front desk of several cockroaches that we had smashed in the unit, thinking they would take some action and get things cleaned up. When we returned this July, we didn't even think about the roaches, because housekeeping in the past was great. However, after checking in, we stepped into our unit, and I immediately noticed that the room wasn't very clean and had a funky smell to it. The carpet wasn't vacuumed, there was grime build-up on the floor near the stove, toothpaste splash on the mirror frame, sand on the shower wall, previous guests' (?) long, thick, wavy black hair on floors and walls in the bathroom and the living room (I have short, straight, thin brown hair). And the nicest surprise of all was the huge, 3-4 inches long body cockroach crawling on the wall below the TV. My husband was able to smash it, so we didn't think too much of it. However, in the next TWO days, we ended up finding and killing over a dozen roaches in the room. They were everywhere!! And we had all our food refrigerated, including the cereal. We know that's a tropical island will have roaches, but we also know that they like dirty places cause that's their food source. So, we finally went to the front desk and told them what was going on and they tried to blame it on us, saying we leave the doors open for them to get in, despite the fact that we found most of them under the kitchen sink and in the closet on the same wall. And we did not leave our doors open because we had fans blasting at all times cooling the place down since there's no AC. When we asked for a different room, we were told that we would have to pay extra for an upgrade. We didn't ask for an upgrade, just another cleaner room with minimal roaches. And they were just so rude about the whole thing, as if we were inconveniencing them with our roach issue. When we got back to our unit, a little frustrated at their handling of our situation, we finally noticed that the metal screen on the front door has either rusted off its screws, or was torn off by someone and the holes got rusty. Either way, there was about a 2" thick opening in the screen which explains why the roaches were getting in. So, back down to the office we go to tell them about the screen, they told us they would call Terminix and spray the unit. SO! Long story short, they came out and sprayed. We were not allowed to be in our unit for HOURS, and then we had to sleep in that unit that night, with all that pesticide. And the roached still didn't go away! We still saw them, there were just not as many. My husband and I were beyond frustrated at that point, and we didn't care to deal with the front desk anymore. I don't think they realize that we are more than happy to give our money to a competitor down the street, especially since we visit the island at least twice a year. We will not be staying at Noelani any more. Also, we noticed that most of the housekeeping crew was new, which explains the dirtiness of the units. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because of the views it offers and proximity to the ocean - those are great! So, unless you feel like paying thousands of dollars to smash roaches on your vacation, stay away...
Read moreThis was our fifth time staying at Noelani. Previously we had good experiences in other units. This particular condominium association has very serious parking issues mostly brought on by locals using the lots because of Noelani's proximity to a very popular beach. So much so that even owners of units at Noelani complain, as did we. Our complaints as well as theirs were routinely ignored by management.
We booked a one bedroom, Unit Number 107. We were staying for almost a month and spent close to $15,000. Not exactly a bargain buy so we expected our accommodations to at least be commensurate with what we were charged. And speaking of value for our 30 day stay we got exactly 5 dishwashing pods, four laundry pods, three rolls of toilet paper and two rolls of paper towel towels!
My girlfriend summed it up best. She said, "unit 107 is a tragic combination of dated and disgusting"! We were disappointed from the moment we walked through the door. The wall colors were oddly heavy and out of place for an ocean facing condominium. The furniture was also dark, heavy and depressing. oddly in the single bedroom two of the four walls were painted a dark and depressing reddish brown, making a very small room seem even smaller. Lighting in the bedroom was completely in adequate. The towel bar in the bathroom was so poorly attached to its hardware it fell down day one. The handle on the oven almost came off in your hand every time you tried to use it to open the door. There was very little room in the master bedroom closet. All of the wire shelves were stuffed full of ancillary comforters.
The real issues centered around cleanliness. Aside from the extremely dated appliances in the kitchen, a 20 year-old blender, a stove that seemed about the same vintage and a dishwasher that only occasionally ran and when it did it didn't clean the dishes! The refrigerator had stains all over it and all around it, as did many of the walls in the hall and kitchen area. There was mold in the bathroom. The unit also had the world's smallest washer and dryer from the 1990s. The patio furniture looked like it came from a Kmart end of season sale.
That wasn't the worst part. After staying there for a few days we decided to do the linens on the bed. We took off the fitted sheet to reveal the last thing you want to see on bed linens, stains everywhere! Some yellow, some more of a brownish color. To add insult to injury they had actually put a queen size mattress pad on a king size bed. When we pulled off the pillowcases there were no pillow protectors and all of the pillows had disgusting yellow stains all over them. (Please see attached pictures) When we reached out to management at Noelani to request a single new pillow we were told "the owners" had to be consulted and it was six days before they got back to us to replace a single pillow.
I think we got a real insight into the owner's character when we noticed that literally everything in the unit had the number 107 written in sharpie on it, (sometimes multiple times) on every cup, plate, bowl, plastic glass, piece of Tupperware (both lid and bottom labeled separately!) Clearly the owners were very interested in protecting their own possessions but could have cared less about the living conditions for their guests!
Avoid unit 107...
Read moreWe love Noelani!! This was our 2nd year back to this beautiful oasis & this time we brought our ohana. Everyone fell in love with Noelani. The view is priceless & EVERY unit has an amazing ocean view!
Everyone that works there is so kind & welcoming. The moment you arrive Julie greets you with a warm Aloha & a smile, Daniel the grounds keeper is always working hard around the property to keep it pristine and everyone else from the housekeepers to other guests are so kind & friendly.
Each unit is uniquely decorated, last year we had a cozy studio with plenty of room with king bed, kitchen & sitting area w/small lanai to watch the beautiful sunset, ocean waves & whales (winter). This year we had the 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath... it was clean, spacious & well stocked for our family of 8. We had 2 lanais with breathtaking views of the sunset & turtles.. so many turtles swimming & resting on the beach!!
It is at a wonderful location that is a very short distance from the crazy resort area at Ka'anapali Beach about 5-10 mins & 10 min from Kapalua Bay. Pohaku (S Turns) Beach is right next door.. locals spot for surfing & SUP boarding.
At Noelani you have a personal oasis where you’re not fighting over lounge chairs at the pool & overcrowded beach. They have clean gas bbqs right next to the ocean & a cute little herb garden to add some flavor to your meals!
I have been home one day & can not wait to be back there. Already looking at dates for...
