Econo Lodge Holland - Toledo — Hotel in Maumee

If I could give this a negative number, I would.||We stayed here for a charity event. It was booked by the sponsor, based upon price and a phone call.||As I stated before, traveling for work, vacation, family, and emergency reasons, I have stayed in many hotels. I cannot remember one as bad as this.||Vinyl/tile/laminate floors are fine, if they are clean. This one was not. Iwas wearing white socks, which after being worn in boots were a little dirty, but before going to bad after walking on the floors, they were brown. We thought there was some goo on the floor, then realized it was some sort of glass half bead. A lone coffee bean was left at the end of one bed. When we finally we went to use the bathroom, we noticed something in the toilet. Upon flushing, it appeared to be a bar of soap. After flushing multiple times, it appeared to be multiple bars of soap. We were finally able to remove them, and found two (2) large bars and several smaller bars of soap in the toilet. Obviously, the toilet had not been cleaned (yeah, at least the bowl was clean). Upon inspecting the shower, it too appeared dirty. So, my wife got the cleaning supplies out of her car, which she happened to luckily have, and cleaned the entire bathroom area (the washcloth was almost as dirty as my socks).||We considered changing rooms, but they made it sound like the last ground floor room, which we wanted as we had my motorcycle in addition to the car (the charity event was a motorcycle event to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's). ||The refrigerator freezer needed to be defrosted. Not overly important, but noteworthy. I will add that there were at least no bugs, and the sheets seemed clean and beds were made. The towels were clean, but 1970s small. And, they do count them (they said they normally ask you to bring the dirty ones back if you want fresh).||I have I not said it already,...

The website offers a free a Continental Breakfast. This consisted of 2 kinds of cereal, 2 Kool-Aid type drinks, (no juice), bread, coffee and milk (no pastries, fruit or yogurt). I asked the clerk about hot food, but she said they don't have that at this location. We were visiting family so we checked in at 11:00 pm and left around 10 am to visit some more before we left. There is a train track on that side of the building and at least three trains went by during the short time we were there. This room is very small. It has one double bed and a chair. The room needs to be updated as it is in very bad condition. The bed had one sheet and one thin spread over it with two small pillows. There wasn't any extra bedding in the room. Our room only had outside access and it seemed it was the same for all of the rooms. Since it was late, we pulled in close to an office that had lights on inside, someone at the desk, a lighted display on the window that said OFFICE and another neon sign that said OPEN. It was, however, for some reason not open so my husband had to walk around at 11:00 at night to find where he had to register. There is a large mall close by so if you want to shop, this could be a plus. The "hotel" doesn't have a dining area but there are some fast food places close by. I guess I should have done more research and read the reviews. A lesson learned. When we checked out, they put a $50 hold on our credit card "in case there was any damage to the room". Not sure how they would know since the furniture was in poor condition, the toilet bowl was stained and the extra lock on the door was loose. We travel a lot but we will not go back...

Do not stay here. Period. I do not care what the other nearby hotels are rated, or what they cost, stay there.

We were there to participate in a charity event, so the hotel was chosen for us. Unfortunately, it based mostly on price and phone conversation.

Tiled/laminate/vinyl floors are not a problem, unless they are not clean. They were not clean. The toilet had two (2) large and several small bars of soap in it, so it would not flush, we tried several times (yeah, I know, at least the bowl was clean). When we looked at the shower, it did not appear clean either. My wife had cleaning things in the car do the whole bath area received a thorough cleaning before we we to bed, at 9pm. Good thing we did not need to be up at 4am, oh wait, we did.

I will say that there were no bugs, the sheets and towels were clean, and the beds were made. The towels were mismatched 1970s Howard Johnson, but clean.
